Episode 2: Eve’s call to action

It was a cool, misty morning. I had prepared two pies cut neatly into six pieces. I placed them both in a basket and made my way to the picnic table a few feet away from the Ewe House. Placing the pies on the table, I rang the bell, and soon the doors to the Ewe House would open, and twelve little Ewes made their way out, scampering towards me.

Upon seeing the freshly cut pie waiting for them, they began to chant.

12 Ewes in unison: Pear Pie Pear Pie Pear Pie

I would chuckle; they would then take a seat, and I handed out the pie slices.

Soon we were joined by Mayble Remnos and Javin.

Javin was now a Warrior Ewe; specifically, he was Ewe Shinobi. His main weapon was a chain sickle. Javin was dressed in an indigo blue vest with silver sweatpants; his hair was tied in a short ponytail, and on his left horn was a bandana.

Jason: And there they are, my big, strong kiddos. Good morning.

Javin would then start to get huffy; he had become a bit of a brat, saying

Javin: Hey, where’s my pie slice?

Jason: Javin You're going to get yours later; for the moment, I wanted to give the three of you your assignments.

Mayble: Yeah, but can’t we get breakfast first? A hungry ewe is a tired ewe.

Remnos: Yeah, we didn’t get breakfast yet, and that pie looks so tasty.

I would then roll my eyes and say

Jason: Fine, then you three make your way to the cottage, and I can make your pie, but don’t touch anything until I get there.

Javin Mayble & Remnos: Yes, sir.

The three would then run to the cottage. I then waited for the twelve little ewes to finish their meal, and then I gave them their chores.

Three of them would be working in the orchard, another three would be training in their respective playgrounds, the next three would be working on cutting tall grass and weeds in the pasture, and the final three would be doing work in the miniature quarry.

The twelve ewes would then cheer before running off to fulfill their tasks. I then made my way back to my cottage, and I began to make a custom pear pie for my three big boys.

Remnos: So what will we be doing, Boss?

Jason: Well, Remnos, you're going down to the dispatch center. Mayble you're going to be helping in the town chapel, and Javin, you're on postal delivery.

Javin: Really? That’s so lame. Can’t I go do a shopping trip again?

Jason: Javin The last time I sent you out to go shopping, you bought new clothes for yourself and not even a fourth of the things that were on the list, so you're banned from shopping for the foreseeable future.

Javin would let out a sad sigh.

Remnos: Hehe, yeah, I love the Dispatch, but are you going to be okay, boss?

Jason: Yeah, I should be fine. Why?

Mayble would then pipe up and say

Mayble: Well, the flock has grown quite large, and some weak-level predators may try to take advantage of the fact that the warriors are gone.

Jason: Ah, I see. Well, Mayble your job shouldn’t take that long. The pastor simply wants your help creating holy water, if I recall.

Mayble: So I should be the first one back. Well, in that case, it should be fine.

Remnos: If you say so, I still don’t like it.

I would then take the finished pie out of the oven and bring it over to the table and begin to cut it.

Jason: Ok then, you three, here’s your pie; you each can have two slices.

I would then go over to the kitchen and make myself a bowl of beef pepper and carrot stew. I would then pour my stew into a bowl and sit with my big boys and eat.

When we had finished our meal, I watched as the three walked past gates to the pasture to do their jobs. I then did the dishes, put my pot of stew on low so it wouldn’t burn, and then went out.

I then made my way to the garden and began working, harvesting the plants. I placed the treats in my satchel and then got a basket for the sellable plant and transported the basket to the storehouse. I then got the medicinal plants together. I then went back to the cottage and began to gather the seeds from the medicinal plants, then the market plants, and lastly the treats. I then stored the seeds away, and the plants were each put in their own section. I then went out to check on the ewes.

Stolen story; please report.

Moving to the quarry, I saw the three ewes working hard to gather material stone, and it was incredibly adorable. I soon stepped into the quarry and spoke up, saying

Jason: Are the three of you interested in some treats? I have thistles.

The three ewes then perked up their ears and came darting over.

3 Ewes: thistles, thistles, thistles.

They cheered.

Jason: Ok, you cuties, here you are. These are for doing such a good job.

I would then hand each of them a thistle flower, and they happily ate them, letting out satisfied “mmms.” As they closed their eyes.

Jason: Hehe, well, I’m glad you all enjoyed your treat. How about I help the three of you out and take the material stone to the storehouse for you so it’ll be easier?

The three Ewes then gave me a thumbs up. I then grabbed the material stone and carried all of it on my back to the storehouse, where I neatly put it away.

I then made my way to the playgrounds; each ewe was doing different things.

Adam was still doing his intelligence training, and Eve was still working on her fortitude, and Gaven was working on his aptitude.

Eve and Adame were close to their awakening; I could feel it. I remember when Javin awakened; it was like a warmth that swirled in my chest when I first saw it, and then that warmth spread throughout my entire body.

Needless to say, when my little Ewes awaken, it’s going to be a happy day for everyone.

I soon went out to check on my ewes busy cutting grass. The main reason for cutting the tall grass is so it can be used for fodder because ewes are sheep; they can eat fodder, so it’s essentially a supplement for their diet.

As I approached the three so diligently cutting the grass, something came charging from the forest, and I acted on impulse, charging towards the three ewes and holding my shepherd's crook to the sky, creating a barrier and sending the beast flying back a few feet.

This shadowy creature was completely black with a dark haze surrounding it. This beast took the form of a hawk and had two piercing red eyes.

Jason: The three of you gather the others and lock yourselves in the Ewe houses.

The three soon scampered off. I then braced myself, taking hold of my handbell. This fight would be incredibly hard.

The predator soon tried to take flight towards the ewe, but I quickly swung my shepherd’s crook, catching it by the neck and then slamming this beast hard into the ground. The predator was stunned, letting out a loud scream.

I soon rang my handbell, and a spell circle appeared below the predator. I then began to recite an incantation. Chains would then rise from the spell circle and bind the predator.

As I continued the incantation, the beast would then begin to burn in white fire. The only hard part about this was I was running out of stamina. I didn’t think I could continue the purification. I would soon fall to my knees, my body too tired to continue. The predator would soon rise; it chuckled, soon taking flight, and it was prepared to use its talons and tear me apart.

I braced myself for what was to come, but then I felt a warmth envelop my body, and looking up, I saw Eve. He was then enveloped in a golden light, and now he was built like a bodybuilder, and on his left arm was a large round shield that sort of resembled a yo-yo, only it had blades poking from the opening.

Eve: foul beast You shall not harm a member of my flock so long as I can help it.

I was completely blown away. Eve now had the body of a jacked bodybuilder with long ears that reached down to his lower back. He wore cropped jeans on his muscular thighs that looked like they could crush a watermelon. He simply wore a breastplate over his chest.

Eve: Are you okay, Boss?

Jason: Yes, I’m fine. I'm more so impressed with your awakening.

Eve: Well, we can worry about that later. Now let’s take care of this monster.

I then stood up, having recovered a good amount of stamina.

I then took a breath and began to start another incantation.

The predator then shot black spears at me, but Even held up his shield, standing against me and the spears, and they shattered against his shield.

Eve then threw his shield at the predator, and the shield hit it head-on, bringing him down. I then finished the incantation, and soon a pillar of light came down on the predator, completely destroying it.

I fell to my knees exhausted, and Eve literally picked me up bridal style and carried me to the cottage and sat me down on the patio swing.

Eve: You did great, Boss. Now I need to do my part and keep this place safe. I’ll do a quick survey of the area; if everything goes well, I’ll let the smaller ewes out so they can continue their chores.

Jason: Thank you, Eve.

Eve kept true to his word. While I was able to rest, I never knew using magic could take so much out of you.

Soon Mayble would come back, and I told him everything that happened, and Mayble quickly began to check me for any injuries.

Mayble: you see I should have never left. you see I should have never left. Predators are going to start coming now; you need more warrior ewes.

Jason: Did I forget to mention what happened to Eve?

Mayble: Wait, what?

I soon called out to Eve, who came charging. Mayble was incredibly shocked to see that Eve was a Shield Bearer.

Eve: Hi, Mayble, you're short now.

Maybel: Yeah, I guess I am, hehe, compared to you, big guy.

Eve would then turn to me and say

Eve: Boss, can I have another pear pie, please? I worked really hard.

I would then roll my eyes and say:

Jason: I only have enough ingredients for one last pie unless a certain Ewe Claric is willing to go out and buy me some more ingredients.

Maybel: Well, I am tired, but that pie is absolutely worth it. Do you have a shopping list prepared?

I then nodded my head and handed Maybel the shopping list, and he was on his way.

I then decided that I had enough rest and soon started walking, mainly to check on the southern region of the pasture. I was quick to notice that there wasn’t a lot of grass in this area. I then made my way to the storehouse, and there were barely any grass seeds, so I might need to make that a priority when I send Maybel out scouting.

I then made my way to the orchard; there I found the three ewes hard at work caring for the pear trees, watering and weeding them. I then handed each of them some treats, and then I gave the three specific instructions to head to the Aphrodite Yurt. The three would then blush before frolicking off happily.

I then took over picking the pears and putting them away safely.

The sun was beginning to set; it had been an incredibly hectic day, so I told the other Ewes still training and working that they could call it quits and rest up.

Eve chose to continue his patrol, and I promised to bring him a slice of pie later.

Javin would soon return incredibly tired, and soon after, Maybel came back with all the much-needed groceries.

I invited the two inside and gave them each a bowl of stew, and honestly, they raved about my cooking. It made me so happy to hear that they loved it.

I then started work on baking two pies, one for tonight and the other was going to be for tomorrow.

My first pie smelled heavenly, and I soon cut it into slices. I gave one to Javin and one to Maybel, and I brought the third piece out to Eve, who practically came charging at me, stopping inches in front of me. I handed him the pie slice, and he was hyped.

I then made my way back to the cottage, and I told Maybel that I wanted him to focus on gathering grass seeds when he goes scouting again.

I also asked why one portion of the pasture was so withered, and Maybel explained that it was because of overgrazing.

Ewes have a tendency to graze when they're hungry; the little ones, however, do it more than the warriors. With that in mind, I thought we would make it a group event and plant some more grass down there.

Maybel and Javin thought the idea was boring, but then I mentioned that after the grass was planted, we could have a picnic, and I would be making all the food that caused them to turn right around.

I then said good night to the two, and they hurried back to the Ewe House, and I began to make preparations for the big grass planting event. I knew how to make three things: pear pies, stews, and salad. I think I’ll need to go visit the town to get a cookbook if I’m really going to make this special.

For now I’m going to take my second pie out of the oven, place it in the fridge, and hit the hay; it’s been a long day.
