EverSense Online. The world's 13th VRMMORPG and undoubtedly the most popular of its time. It has raised over 3 billion dollars in sales profits alone, not to mention the ingame consumables that were able to be bought. With a never before seen realism graphic level of 81% EverSense became the first game in history to offer players a fully customizable player appearance, a 4:1 time ratio, 50+ playable races, 100+ “Path” classes with 1500+ “Branch” classes it was the Adam of its time, the golden apple from the tree of life.
And after seven long years, it is finally shutting down. Players no longer felt the intense desire they once felt while playing EverSense Online. While only a few players actually managed to reach the zenith, many players had grown tired of the slightly repetitive lifestyle. To them, killing five hundred orcs to gain a level was something they would only do once, if ever.
But then again, that’s what separates the good from the bad; the diamonds from the rocks.
In two weeks a brand new game, known universally as Multiverse online, would feature a never before seen sci-fi reality aspect. It was the biggest topic among gamers in history. How big was the game? Was there a limit to space? What was our enemy? How many planets are there? Truthfully, Multiverse online had some hardcore critics even before it came out. The critics were not focused on the game itself, rather, on the aspect of sci-fi in general.
However, that is enough about that. Today is the last day of EverSense Online. For me, who has invested over 1000 hours into the game, this has come as a blow straight to my heart. All my painful grinding, trading, leveling… it has come to nothing.
So now I sit, seated upon the Guild Leader Throne of the [PvP Gods], A clan dedicated towards PvP only we scoure the PvP servers in order to find a worthy challenge. It was through this way that we managed to become the #1 PvP guild in the world, with me, [Malketh], as the guild leader.
“All this.. will be gone? As expected… even I... “ A few tears slid down my face. The hard work of all my guild members will no longer be worth anything. Hundreds of hours spent grinding and working towards better gear will be destroyed in less than an hour.
Releasing a downward sigh I opened up my options menu and clicked [Switch Server]. I experience slight disability as my world went completely black. A white server screen popped in front of me, showing multiple open end servers.
I released another sigh as I checked the population number. A little over 1000 people. All thousand of those are the most dedicated players here, the rest not seeing the need to stay until the end. I clicked on the [Search Server] bar and typed in the code.
[The winner tells all] Once again I felt a slight discomfort as the view around me changed. A pure white room, filled with nothing but leaderboards and names floating around.
“Are you the last one?” I ignored the voice behind me, taking a closer look at the floating images.

I raised my hands in a celebratory cheer seeing my score in the leaderboard. I was surprised at how far I was ahead from second place, but not too badly. After hitting max level I did nothing but PvP the whole time, trying out thousands of different combinations of skills for the ultimate “Glass Cannon” build.
*Schwing*
“I don’t take to being ignored. Now let me ask you. Are.You.The.Last.One.” The surprising amount of bloodlust caused me to unconsciously activate [Blink] and drop a [Attraction] bomb where I stood. I just managed to catch a glimpse of a tall black armored knight before he was swallowed by the black hole, then spit up a moment later. His body flew towards a group of twenty or so other players. The knight just managed to right himself with his weapon, stabbing a long black mace into the ground to slow his momentum.
“WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT FOR YOU MIDGET!!” He shouted in a rage, pulling out his shield and glaring at me.
[Warrior Constitution]
[Body Enhance]
[Physical Overdrive]
[Dark knight’s Terror]
[Physical Resist]
Five skills were shouted in rapid succession as the knight prepared to charge at me. Before he was able to, however, a dark flash of light temporarily blinded the room.
“Agh my eyes!!” A let out a laugh as the annoying knight screamed in pain. Though I was a little confused. How could the darkness hurt his eyes?
“Hmm… 22 of you…” My head began to throb as an exotic voice resounded in my head, making me clutch it in pain. Opening my eyes I saw that the other 20 players were in similar positions, though some took it better than other. One, standing a bit over 7 foot tall, seemed to not be affected at all, staring at absentmindedly through a black runic hood.
“Hello, all who have reached level 300. I am known as Tai, the artificial intelligence that governs EverSense Online. I am here on the orders of my creator to send you a message.” Wearily rising from my position I glared at the forty foot tall, eight winged seraphim that was staring down at us. I considered attack it. I have defeated plenty a seraphim before, but none so large.
“Who the fuck are you, and why does my head hurt so much!!” Black knight guy shouted.
“I am Tia.” I almost laughed at the seraphims basic reply.
“Don’t make fun of me assho-”
“The message my creator has left me goes as shown.” Without waiting for Black knight to finish Tia began to wave his wings around and in doing so caused one large holographic screen to appear in front of us.
“If this video is being played then that means ten or more players have managed to reach the near impossible level cap of 300 in EverSense Online.” Standing in a white lab coat a man who seemed to be about 35-40 years old held a jovial smile on his face as he spoke.
“You probably know by now, but my name is Kanagi Tiyoko. I am the creator of the first Virtual Reality Dive Pod, or the VRDP.” My jaw(If I had one) hit the floor hearing this guy speak. Kanagi Tiyoko? No way!! Virtual reality has been out for almost a hundred and fifty years now! How would this guy know about EverSense?
“While I know some of you may be shocked, it is true. And now I will reveal another shocking secret. I am not from this world.” Now I considered logging out. To make a fake video of a man I admired was low, especially for a company I admired.

“I know you won’t believe what I just said, but you will, soon enough. I born in a world very different from this one. For one, we did not look like humans. We looked more like… cavemen, to be honest. Nine feet tall, seven fingered incredibly intelligent cavemen. And we were blue. Anyways, my people valued intelligence more than they valued their own lives. We had far more resources available to us and as such, we were far more technologically advanced than you. However it was our own superiority that led to our downfall.” I could barely keep up with what this guy was saying. Is what he talking about even possible? I glanced to the other group of people. I realized that some of them were shouting at the seraphim, but for some reason I couldn’t hear them.
“To make a long story short my race entered into a civil war that destroyed our home planet entirely. I, along with three of my friends managed to create a device that would cause our souls to be implanted into a small proto-adaptable body upon our deaths. We launched our bodies into outer space moments before I planet was destroyed. I have no clue as to where my friends are and can only hope they are in a safe place.” I took a moment to register what he said. Proto-adaptable body? As in, can change shape? And how the hell can you touch a soul?
“I arrived on Earth sometime in the late 1500’s. I was lucky enough to meet a very nice farmer group in which I deceived them into letting me stay with just a tad bit of magic. For almost 500 years I studied up on this world while simultaneously trying to make contact with my friends. My life was relatively peaceful for the next seven years. However, an incident happened that forced me to change my perspective of humanity as a whole. Through the times I have lived on this planet I have come to see the human race as something…. despicable. Why was it that the hard working people, those that worked till they collapsed, were the ones looked down on? Why were the native americans, who were living their lives peacefully forcibly removed from their land? Why did humans always take and never give? Why were they so selfish. Even now, I still have not figured this out. So in order to figure this out I created a fully functioning system that would humans to leave the consciousness of their bodies and enter a world to which defied their own concept of being. A world where they can become anything and act anyway, no longer held down by the chains of reality.”
‘Virtual Reality’ I whispered in my head.
“And so, my experiment came out as such. Humans, while tied down by moral laws, will act in ways benefiting them and only them, though they make extend this will to others for their own personal gain. However, when taken to a world where even the weak can become strong those concepts were thrown aside for a mutual goal:Strength. Through strength, humans managed to create bonds that extended past this artificial world. Thus my conclusion has reached such: It is in the very depth of humanity that this false concept of living has been splayed on their personal nature. They have adapted to a corrupt strain of nature and in turn have become corrupt themselves, no longer seeking the need for social behaviors.”
“But then I thought to myself “What about the others?” What about those who do work hard, those that strive for a world difference from the pre-laid path humanity has lain down. In order to find these people I created my own game in a virtual reality world that would continually challenge your very being. In this game, those that could no longer take milk humanity pours would have a place to drain. A place where they would no longer have to fear being scorned by others for being different.” My mind forcibly refused to believe what he was this man was saying yet my ears would not stop listening.
“To reach the max level in this game, EverSense Online, you have to have will. Without will, you have nothing. It is impossible to reach the final level in EverSense by just casually playing. Only those who truly hate the real world and have poured hundreds of hours into it will have reached the final. You ten or more players have dedicated almost twenty years of gaming into one game. For that, I commend you. I salute you for not following in the old humanity's ways and adapting into a strain that strove to be something more. And here is my reward. All who have seen this video will be forcibly transported out of EverSense Online and into a new world, one in which there are no Npcs, no players and no moderators. This is a world I had stumbled upon while using my own [Divination Magic] as my old race. This is the only thing I can gift to you. Here, in this world, you will be kings and queens. Through the pen or the sword it does not matter. I fully believe you have earned this right.”
Once he finished speaking the hologram zoomed out, leaving us to ponder our own thoughts. The old man’s words struck a deep cord in me. Indeed, I hated humanity. I hated how my father, who worked his whole life to go to law school was only able to rise so high before his status of [Commoner] stopped him from advancing. I hated how I, no matter how far I strove would never be as good as those who were born into greatness. And so my solace was EverSense Online, a game where everybody truly started out equal and only hard work would let you become stronger. A game where even I, gutter scum as I am, was able to become something far more than he ever dreamed.
“I will now commence mass teleportation. To you who have reached the sky, I congratulate you. Have fun in your new world.” The robotic voice of Tai resonated in my mind, though it no longer brought a throbbing pain. Light began to coalesce around my body, something as I recognized as mana.
“What if we don’t want to go?” A weak voice spoke out. I glanced over to see a young girl, no more than twenty years of age speak out in tears. Apparently, the video had affected her deeply as well.
“Then you do not have to go. You are free to log out as you please. However be warned that this is a once in a lifetime chance. There will be no going back.” I wondered if anyone was going to log out. Although I still had my own doubts to this story I was curious to see where this would go. If I did end up in a new world, good for me. With my powers even slaying a god was possible. And if it turned out to be a hoax then that's that. But as expected, nobody logged out.
“Good. Commencing Inorganic matter teleportation…. encrypting soul into databytes… bonding soul to inorganic matter… turning on mana power supply…” I held my breath as my body began to heat up. Soon it grew into a near intolerable inferno within my chest.
“Teleport”
