Chapter 103 The Physics Aberration
Once outside, Aya stopped and stared at the dome of stone and dirt in the middle of the yard.
Catching her mate’s gaze, Evernya answered her unasked question. “Oh that, we call it a lawn ornament. I accidentally made it when I lost control a while ago.”
Aya stared at Evernya with wide eyes, proclaiming, “Nya is powerful!”
Evernya brushed off Aya’s with a shrug as she said, “Not really, I couldn’t reproduce that easily. Apparently I can temporarily boost my mana grade in highly emotional situations occasionally. I had a bit of a meltdown because I found out my range is severely limited. That dome is my exact max range. Inside It’s actually a hollow sphere.”
“Nya can only use magic that far?” Aya questioned.
Evernya replied while scowling, “Not only magic everything, I can’t even throw anything further. Anything I throw hits an invisible barrier every time.”
With all six of her tails raised, Aya proclaimed, “Aya will protect Nya then!”
“I’ll be counting on you then.” Evernya replied, unable to keep a smile off her face.
A moment later, curiosity got the better of Evernya, prompting her to ask, “What is your range?”
Aya fidgeted from insecurity as she admitted, “Aya doesn’t know, Aya hasn’t tried since she was two tailed.”
“Give it a try.” Evernya encouraged.
Aya turned toward the lake and shot off a small fireball from one of her tails, lighting up the night sky. The fireball flew for over twenty meters before Aya lost control of it, causing it to fizzle out at around twenty-five meters. Aya stared at the small scorch mark in the grass with disappointment, contrary to her mate’s amazement.
Aya’s tails drooped in shame as she muttered, “Sorry, Aya’s range is lacking. Aya is not used to her tail ups yet.”
Evernya gave her mate a hug while smiling with encouragement. “Nothing to be sorry before. That was amazing. You can hit things five times further than me.”
“With six tails Aya should be able to go double that.” Aya commented with a frown.
“My control was horrid when I first started too. I am sure you will be able to shoot much further soon.” Evernya encouraged.
Still uncertain, Aya said, “Aya hopes so, she needs to protect Nya.”
“I can protect myself, but with you taking care of long range I will be much safer.” Evernya replied.
With her tails raised Aya proclaimed, “Anything to keep Nya safe.”
After Aya’s proclamation, they split off to practice. Once Evernya walked a couple dozen meters away, she shifted her claws. She then tested out how her body felt while running through what she remembered from her martial arts classes as a human. She started with several basic standing punches, kicks and slashes with her claws on her hands and feet.
After a half an hour, Evernya rotated through the strikes and slashes at random, going from clawed stabs aimed at imaginary joints to an uppercut to a chin before spinning into a kick. Each attack became smoother as the strikes flowed from one to the next.
Another thirty minutes later, she stopped, satisfied with her current progress with the basic strikes and slashes. I wish I had this body back on earth! None of those damn gorilla women would have manhandled me! Evernya’s enthusiasm vanished a moment later as her thoughts continued. If only I weren’t just as weak compared to other shifters here. I even gave up the one advantage I had which was reach. I was tall as a human, though I didn’t do me any favors when I was as weak as you could get. At least now my kicks won’t tickle as that bitch, Shawna kept saying. Even if I could only return to earth for a few minutes, it would be worth it if I could wipe the floor with that damn gorilla!
Fired up with the thoughts of beating up her bully, Evernya sent a rapid flurry of punches and kicks at imaginary Shawnas, subconsciously activating kinetic aberration.
Her form fell apart almost immediately as the air lost its resistance, throwing her off. Unaware of her deteriorating form, Evernya spun in a roundhouse only for her plant foot to slip as if on ice. With her catlike reaction time, Evernya dropped into the splits instead of falling on her face.
Still unaware of what caused her mishap, Evernya sprung to her feet to continue her Shawna beat up session only to slip once again, narrowly avoiding a jammed tail on her way down. Dammit! Did Shawna beat me from another dimension? No, something else is going on.
Evernya focused inward, finally finding the cause of her crashes, but when she tried to deactivate kinetic aberration with her mind like the bloodline said it wouldn’t deactivate.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Evernya growled as she stood up while digging her toe claws into the ground for support, only to find them cut through the ground like butter, knocking her off balance once again. Her tail raised to aid her, allowing her to keep herself upright.
She peeked at Aya, but became even more disheartened. Aya was gracefully flowing from one form to the next, even integrating her tails. It looked more like a dance than combat forms. Evernya sat down on the ground cross-legged and closed her eyes as she delved into her bloodline, attempting to find the key or at least control kinetic aberration or deactivate it.
It says the ability nullifies physics, but what and how many? There’s no way it nullifies them all, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to control my body at all without flinging myself unpredictably. With how I’m slipping, I think it’s allowing me to ignore resistance or friction, but I still feel gravity and the weight behind my movements. But the more serious question is why won’t it turn off?
Evernya delved deeper but ran into a wall as if something or someone blocked a section of information from her. She prodded the barrier with her mind, but it felt impenetrable. What is this thing? I know I didn’t have a massive wall in my mind before. At least I didn’t think so.
After another several minutes of searching her mind, Evernya growled in frustration. The least they could do was give me a damn hint! I can’t even take a step without slipping!
To her annoyance, no one answered her plea, forcing her to figure it out herself. If this is an advanced version of my turbo mode, why can’t I even walk? Meira mentioned my turbo mode allowed me to ignore friction and air resistance, but how did I keep traction?
Evernya thought back to how her body reacted while using turbo mode, causing her eyes to spring open a moment later. While bubbling with excitement, Evernya hopped to her feet while imitating the flow of mana to her feet.
After a moment of hesitation, Evernya took a step, cringing for the coming invisible banana peel, but to her surprise and relief, her feet kept grip. So the key is my mana? The default form of physics aberration seems to ignore a bunch of physics, so maybe I need to add my mana when I want to have some semblance of normal movement. Not sure how this makes sense, but I guess magic throws everything for a loop.
As if a switch flipped, her physics aberration shut off, causing her to sway on her feet, lightheaded and exhausted. Damn, that ability really takes a lot out of me. It definitely consumes more mana than turbo mode, even when I was sprinting full out. At least whatever blocked me from turning it off decided to release its hold.
Evernya glanced at the dancing Kitsune as she inquired, “Want another smoothie? I’m going to get one myself.”
Aya paused between flips to reply, “Aya would like one.”
Evernya shifted away her claws before trotting to the kitchen. She opened the fridge to grab two smoothies, a two purple and blue one. Her fanged mouth guzzled down the first one, finishing it before she even left the kitchen. Once outside, she handed the blue smoothie to Aya, then plopped down on a patio chair to drink the second purple smoothie.
While sipping her smoothie, Evernya asked, “were you always that amazing with your staff?”
“Nya’s bloodline gave Aya the complete system Aya had already had years of practice with. Aya had been looking for this for years but it was either kept from her or lost.” Aya replied from her patio chair to the right of Evernya.
“No wonder you looked so graceful. I’m glad you got a system you wanted.” Evernya commented with a smile.
Aya’s chest puffed with pride, replying, “Thank you, Aya spent many hours perfecting the forms she could find.”
“It showed you looked amazing, much better than me.” Evernya complimented.
“Aya saw. Aya is sure Nya will improve.” Aya encouraged, tails curved upward as she gave a thumbs up and smile.
“Yea, it was really frustrating because I was missing a vital bit of information.” Evernya said before changing the subject by inquiring. “So what other stuff did the bloodline give you?”
Aya paused as she went through her bloodline gains before answering. “Aya got some spatial sight and magic, but she knows she can’t use it herself yet. She also got a fire based cultivation method.”
“Yeah, I got spatial sight too, but my cultivation method is telekinetic based. I thought bloodlines could only have one cultivation method. How did we get two?” Evernya inquired.
“Nya’s bloodline is special. Aya thinks Nya’s mother tweaked the bloodline to fit Nya’s and Aya’s needs.” Aya theorized.
“Yeah, she gave us a lot of special things. Hopefully, it doesn’t backfire on us. She seems to go overboard on things which could get us noticed by the wrong people.” Evernya commented.
Aya peered over her smoothie at her mate as she said, “Nya’s mother is nice she freed Aya. Aya hopes to meet her again to thank her.”
“I would like to meet her too, but I don’t think we will be able to anytime soon because apparently she is an Old One.” Evernya replied.
“Aya doesn’t understand Old Ones, but Nya must be super strong with a godlike mother!” Aya exclaimed.
“You are more powerful than me without the limitations I have.” Evernya countered.
“Aya is this powerful because of Nya. She gave Aya her sixth tail. Kitsune have their own limitations such as the requirement to soul bond within their first century or fade away.”
Done with the topic, Evernya announced, “I am going to get back to training. I have a lot of catching up to do.”
Evernya walked out into the predawn yard before shifting her claws. She first warmed up by running through hundreds of strikes and slashes she stole from any martial art she remembered from earth with her perfect memory. Terrified to activate physics aberration, she moved on to flow each attack into the next while imagining a certain slaving bastard as her target. She continued to repeat the hundreds of seemingly random attacks over and for hours until the sun rose.
The sweaty and hungry shifter made her way back inside to the kitchen, followed by a Kitsune in a similar state. Inside the kitchen, they found a wide awake elf preparing herself a breakfast salad.
“Good morning!” Meira chirped.
Neither girls even bother responding as they dumped themselves on the stools at the counter. Exhausted. Even Aya was too tired to hide from Meira. She just slumped on her stool like Evernya. Seeing the state the girls were in, Meira made two servings of the shifter special for Evernya and one for Aya appear in front of them. Both girls perked up with renewed energy, as Evernya did her normal blender vacuum cleaner routine, but she also diced Aya’s meal to make it easier for her. Aya tried to keep her ingrained gracefulness while eating, but she soon found this impossible to maintain. With a blur of fork movements, she shoveled the meat into her mouth. Despite the insane speed, she somehow didn’t spill a drop.
About half way through her meal, Aya slumped back full, leaving the rest to her vacuum cleaner mate. After finishing her meal and half of Aya’s Evernya’s head dropped to the counter out cold. Before Meira could do anything, the tiny Kitsune lifted her mate with her tails and happily trotted off, presumably to sleep.
