Chapter 2 : The First Quest

Without thinking, he reached out and clicked the first one he saw “Strength.”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strength (STR): The physical might of an individual, dictating the amount of force they can exert. This stat measures raw power and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. A high strength stat indicates impressive muscle power, enabling feats such as lifting heavy objects, dealing significant damage in combat, and enduring physically taxing activities. Conversely, a low strength stat reflects limited physical prowess, resulting in struggles with heavy lifting, reduced combat effectiveness, and quicker physical fatigue. Strength is crucial for warriors, and anyone engaged in laborious tasks, influencing both their offensive capabilities and physical resilience. Can be improved by repeated physical activities.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I see, this stat is what determines my physical power,” Alden mused, feeling a newfound sense of understanding.

“My strength has reached 10, but I don’t know if this is a high or low number compared to other people” Growing up in a small farming village, he has seen his own fair share of physical labor. While most of the work was done via magic, some tasks required a certain amount of precision that unskilled magical practitioners couldn’t achieve, so in the end they would have to rely on their own bodies to get the job done.

“I could probably improve my strength by taking on some extra work in the village. No one would complain about having less work to do, but for now let’s look at some of the other stats.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intelligence (INT): The cognitive ability of an individual, encompassing reasoning, memory, and problem-solving skills. This stat measures mental acuity and the capacity to understand complex concepts, learn new information quickly, and apply knowledge effectively. A high intelligence stat indicates sharp analytical skills, strong memory retention, and quick thinking, essential for strategists, scholars, and anyone relying on mental prowess. Conversely, a low intelligence stat reflects difficulties in comprehension, slower learning, and struggles with complex tasks. Intelligence is crucial for mages and scholars, influencing magical aptitude and the ability to devise effective strategies. Can be improved by engaging in mentally stimulating activities and continuous learning.

Dexterity (DEX): The agility and coordination of an individual, dictating the precision and control of their movements. This stat measures fine motor skills, reflexes, and overall physical nimbleness. A high dexterity stat indicates superior hand-eye coordination, swift reflexes, and graceful movements, essential for archers, thieves, and anyone relying on agility and precision. Conversely, a low dexterity stat reflects clumsiness, slower reaction times, and difficulties with tasks requiring fine motor skills. Dexterity is crucial for tasks involving delicate or quick movements, influencing both physical combat efficiency and the ability to perform intricate tasks. Can be improved through activities that enhance agility, coordination, and reflexes, such as acrobatics, crafting, and practicing speed-based exercises.

Magic (MAG): The innate ability of an individual to harness and manipulate mystical energies. This stat measures one's magical aptitude, potency, and control over spells and incantations. A high magic stat indicates a strong connection to the arcane, enabling powerful spellcasting, manipulation of elements, and creation of magical barriers. It is essential for wizards, sorcerers, and anyone relying on magical abilities for combat or utility. Conversely, a low magic stat reflects a lack of innate magical talent, resulting in difficulty casting spells, limited access to magical knowledge, and susceptibility to magical attacks. Magic influences one's potential in the mystical arts, determining the complexity and potency of spells that can be wielded. Can be improved through rigorous magical training, study of arcane texts, and exposure to magical phenomena.

Charisma (CHA): The force of personality and charm that an individual possesses, influencing their ability to interact with others and sway opinions. This stat measures social grace, confidence, and persuasiveness. A high charisma stat indicates a magnetic presence, captivating speech, and the ability to inspire and lead others. It is crucial for diplomats, leaders, and anyone relying on charm and persuasion to achieve their goals. Conversely, a low charisma stat reflects social awkwardness, lack of confidence, and difficulty in connecting with others. Charisma affects one's ability to negotiate, influence, and lead, shaping their success in social interactions and leadership roles. Can be improved through practice in public speaking, building rapport with others, and developing empathy and emotional intelligence.

Luck (LUK): The unpredictable and mysterious force that influences the outcome of events in an individual's favor. This stat measures the likelihood of fortunate or unfortunate occurrences and serendipitous moments. A high luck stat indicates a tendency to experience positive outcomes, chance encounters, and timely opportunities, often defying logical explanation. It can lead to unexpected windfalls, fortunate accidents, and advantageous circumstances. Conversely, a low luck stat reflects a propensity for misfortune, setbacks, and unexpected challenges, despite best efforts. Luck can influence the outcome of random events, such as finding rare treasures, or avoiding danger through sheer chance. While it cannot be directly controlled or improved, individuals with higher luck may find themselves consistently blessed by fortuitous circumstances.

Looking over his stats, Alden began to go over how they were related to his current self. With no baseline to compare himself to, he was lost to whether these would be good or bad stats.

Ding! New Quest Arrived.

As Alden was examining his stats, a sound went off in his head. Looking around for the source, Alden couldn’t find anything. Turning back to the to status screen, he noticed new words on the screen.

“A quest? Improve my stats by a total of 5 points, with a time limit of a month. I can’t tell if this is a hard quest or an easy one. And I have never heard of skill before, I wonder what it does.” Alden gathered his thoughts as he looked over the quest. If improving skills were easy, they wouldn’t have given him a month to do it. The punishment for failing the quest also worried him. Losing the ability to move his right arm would greatly hinder him, especially for three months.

As Alden pondered his quest, a branch snapping alerted him to someone approaching. Looking up at the incoming person, Alden was relieved to see that it was just Alex. “Father sent me to find you. The Lord of the village has arrived, and he wishes to speak with you.” Alden’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of the Lord’s arrival. He knew that meeting with the village's ruler was no small matter, and it filled him with a mix of anticipation and apprehension.

“Alright, let’s not keep him waiting,” Alden said, rising to his feet. He followed Alex as they made their way towards the main building of the village, where the Lord awaited them.
