Hi guys,
So this is one of those things that every author dreads writing.
I'm putting CI on hiatus for the next few weeks. Patreon has been paused for the next 30 days.
There's a definition of burnout that I like to use, when the will to do the work is lower than the amount of work to be done. Unfortunately, that’s where I find myself with CI. By all metrics (followers, comments), the story has never been doing better. But at the same time, I’ve spent over 8 hours on CI 67 and every sentence that I write just bogs me down further.
I spent a few hours this morning trying to figure out why I felt that way. And the answer that I came to was that the earlier chapters of CI weren’t my best work.
Writing a single chapter (about 2,000 words) is a two to four commitment on my end, without including the time for editing and proofreading. And I fell into a trap where my enthusiasm in the early days washed away my backlog. So every day became a scramble to write more and more words. At some point, my thought process changed from trying to write the best story possible to just getting the next chapter out.

There’s a lot of CI that I’m immensely proud of. There’s also a lot that could use more work and refinement.
I still think that CI is a story worth sharing. My current plan is to take the first two weeks and look through CI Book 1 and do a heavy round of editing. And then afterward, start building up a backlog for future chapters. As part of that, I’ll be stubbing the story later this week and taking down all chapters of Book 1 from Royal Road. When it's ready, I'll be releasing it as a PDF on my Patreon + likely publishing it on Amazon.
One final note: I’ve read through almost all of the comments and reviews. A lot of you guys have been super positive and I'm thankful to everyone who left a couple of words underneath a chapter.
It meant a lot to me to share this story with you all.
See you soon,
TQ
