CHAPTER 51

It was beautiful.

The sight of thirty two cannonballs sized orbs dyed in fire red, thirty two arcing blinding white lightning’s and thirty two Grey stone-like shards the size of stalactites raining down on a large radius of concentrated Mal’eurs.

They all flown in almost perfect trajectories as all of them were aiming at the place that I had pointed. As expected of these professionally trained Eomancers.

The rain of death comes with a bang.

There were those hit by the explosion of a Deep Red orb, their skins sizzled in the extreme heat. There were those shocked by the lightnings, electrocuting them and there were those mutilated as they were shredded by the shard.

It was a bit far from our frontline so that the spells doesn’t accidentally caused damage to our own.

In just a moment, hundreds of Mal’eurs had been eliminated and the attack on that side was weakened.

The Eomancers cheered at the sight of such powerful display of Eomancies.

I closed [Synikorvus] so I can conserve it for longer. The time limit for [Synikorvus] had extended for two hours but I had practiced or rather strengthened my hold on my special ability by being able to close it and open it for three times. After the third times, i can close it and have to activated it until it worn out.

I looked at the distance in front of me and saw Katarinova with dual spears, was currently engaged with the Dragon-like Mal’eur in an aerial combat. What surprised me was that she had fully adapted on fighting in the air just in an instant.

Even in this fantasy world, a tiny, fragile human like Katarinova fighting something like that is utterly incomprehensible especially in terms of physical combat but Katarinova is what I called, a real-life Amazoness.

There are plenty of ways to kill something bigger then you and Katarinova had come from a world where bigger things will always try to kill you, so she’s an expert in killing things bigger than her.

And her special ability really does help her a lot in making it easier for even though there were multiple uses for it, it was mainly combative in nature.

She called it [Overdrive].

In a span of two second, she can either have herculean strength, a super-sonic speed, a lightning reaction or a miraculous recovery rate. She can only choose either one of those four and after two second end, she can’t use it for more than twenty seconds or so.

It’s fairly simple and I asked her whether the choices appeared like a questionnaire in her mind but she said that everything was by her instinct and sometimes she doesn’t need to choose as it would decide what is best for her based on the situation.

Then her Soul Weapon made it even more powerful. She call it [Yuyurkhasha] or in her native language, ‘Warseeker Dance’.

Her Soul Weapon is an ornate, gem-covered long spear which had a folded blue rose-like spearhead. To simply explain, her Soul Weapon is like her second Special Ability, same in almost everything but in order to activate either four, she has to do special dances for each of them.

Her first ability can also combine with the second like for example she can get herculean strength twice or miraculous recovery at the same time as technically even though both the abilities are the same but both are in fact different abilities in a sense.

Right now, she had inflicted several wound on the dragon. It was flying weakly in the air as it had focused completely in defence.

Earlier, Katarinova had only used [Overdrive] twice and both of them were speed. In two second, she had slashed its left side with the normal spear and nearly severed the wing on the left with the Soul Weapon and in another two second; she had stabbed the upper right hind of the front leg and put a gash on its right side with normal spear and the Soul Weapon respectively.

With only her natural strength, she had seriously wounded a creature that probably weighed a tonne and could swallow a man’s whole.

After evading all the desperate attacks from the dragon for quite some times, she performed a certain dance. If I’m not mistaken, that’s a dance to invoked strength.

Then with a speed that surpassed the sound like that of a thunder, she suddenly appeared near the head of the dragon and thrust forth the spears at the crown of the head. She had combined strength and speed.

I could imagine hearing the sickening sound of the skull pierced and from the distance here, I can see blood mixed with brain matters gushing out in no small amount.

She pulled the spear out and the dragon fell from the sky. She threw the normal spear at the Mal’eur below as the spear seems to be broken.

For the entirety of the battle, she made no battle-cry or any sound expressing her passion. During one of our sparring, she told me the joy she felt in fighting was that it made her mind focused on a singular path that had no right or no wrong, a path where she felt the most ultimate of simplicity.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Yup, everything is under control up in the air.

Now let’s assess the situation around once more and repeat the procedure.

For an hour, the overall situation was that although we were doing well and lots of Eomancy barrages from my side had thinned the horde with all the summoned had handle half of the high-class Maleurs, the number of Mal’eurs was steadily increasing as the breach was still there.

Another half and an hour had passed, I issued order for the frontline to retreat into the second line of bunkers and rotated with the reserve.

From the beginning of the battle, the leeches were moving slowly but steadily forward and they were currently at the first line of the abandoned bunkers. Even so, I still couldn’t see the end of them. Before starting Operation Salty Storm, I would like to confirm the entirety of them so we can take them in one huge swoop.

Another hour had passed.

“Commander, bunker number three is at a critical juncture, they’re requesting for a retreat, permission?!!”

Rucrik yelled the situation on his side.

“Give them the order to retreat then!!”

“Commander, bunker number two was forced to retreat due to the presence of two high-class Mal’eurs!!”

The scout on the right frontal tower reported.

“Inform every unit in the frontline to retreat to third line!!”

Every Scout in the towers quickly sent the messages to retreat after I saw how dire the situation was. Unfortunately, there were still casualties even though we had implemented such system to greatly reduce it, most of the death occurred due to lateness in imprinting [Bond] or sudden death.

“Krolve, retreat to the third line.”

“(Roger!)”

The sound of rumbling steps and the sounds of squishing like ants were mixed together as the Mal’eurs that had rushed in after the retreat was sound was crushed underfoot in Krolve’s retreat.

Still looking at the horizon at where the breach was, I had gaped for I saw something enormous had emerged from there. Although I was relieved to see the end of the leeches and the Cloud had passed by the Leylines, that had become a secondary concern as a creature that looked like a bipedal crocodile that was on par with a small skyscraper was lumbering towards us as though it had been invited into a picnic. It was something that was recorded in books about the outside expedition; it was on the same mythical level with the Cloud of Disharmony- It was an Ultra-Class Mal’eur but an even scarier fact was that a higher class of Mal’eur existed after the Ultra-class which was called Primordial-Class but it was only seen once or twice in all the eight hundreds year of Athryshiayl’s history.

Wait, that’s not the problem now. The problem right now, is an Ultra-Class Mal’eur had entered the field. This is first thing that went beyond my expectation. Maybe I can ram it with Krolve’s [Sanctuary] or use my [Pandora], the last resort.

Behind me, there was multiple sound of teleportation.

I sighed as I realized casualties were mounting and this further muddled my thoughts as I realized I had stalled in producing any idea to counter that and my confidence were waning.

“I didn’t realize that you would instigate a huge battle just so I could come here, do you really miss me that much?”

The words seem to be of a mockery and anger flared inside of me but that was only for half of a second as I realized it was the voice that I wanted to hear for weeks.

I slowly turned and saw salvation in the form of five standing at the place where those with [Bond] would be teleported.

Vefal was smiling kindly at me after she joked as such.

“I’m sorry I was late, Ruigne. It took some time to mobilize a regiment for reinforcement and waiting for these four to gather took quite some times. The reinforcement regiment will arrive soon since they had marched out two days ago.”

Beside her was August who looked determined as he looked around the battlefield at this vantage point.

“Aye, this is a huge incursion indeed. Last time when I saw an Ultra-class Mal’eur was back during my Grand Incursion and that Cloud huh, looks pretty ominous.”

Beside August was Sir Drafgnai whose eyes glittered as he glared at the Ultra-Class Mal’eur and the Cloud.

“Ruigne, The line is still holding?”

Beside Drafgnai was the Ubermensch with his signature serious expression as he greeted me.

“Hmph, that thing is mine.”

The Falskilan called Therius, glared at the Ultra-Class Mal’eur like it was his prey.

With all five summoned here, our chances of weathering through this exponentially increased.

“You, cast me the enhancement-‘Air Walk’.”

Therius, without minding his manner, ran past me and pointed his finger at one of the Eomancer in the middle step Pyramid.

The person in question frowned and looked at me obviously for confirmation.

I nodded to him.

Although reluctant, he casted the spell and Therius without hesitating, flew forward into the battlefield.

“What a troublesome guy. I wished someone else had volunteered.”

It was rare to see August to look annoyed as he stared at Therius but I shared his sentiment as I find the guy hard to deal with because of his extremely racist or speciesist mentality.

“A person like that is only trouble in the future.”

Even the Ubermensch who had an uneasy expression, had casted his judgement on the man.

Vefal sighed-

“Even though I feel the same but right now lives are at stake as we speak. Ruigne give us your order.”

“Aye, I might be an Inheritor but this battlefield is you’re to command!”

As Sir Drafgnai said that, he made the military salute, followed behind by the three other.
