Interview With a Vampire

“How do I know what?”

“Let’s skip the parts where you pretend you don’t know anything”

Edward looked composed but I knew he was probably reeling on the inside, and also likely debating whether he should kill me or not. I felt intimidated but I assumed that was exactly his intention. I studied his face and from up close I noticed he didn’t look exactly like Robert Pattinson. There was a resemblance but he looked younger and more boy-ish. His hair was a darker coloured orange. I could definitely see what was attractive about him, or perhaps it was the vampire allure.

“Well just tell me. It’s not like I can read minds or anything” I told him sarcastically, but I noticed this only hardened his expression. I probably shouldn’t joke with him like this, if I valued my own life.

“How do you know. About me” he asked through his teeth.

“Oh that.”

He just continued to stare at me. I Guess I had no other option than to tell him the truth if he already read my mind. Damn vampire gifts.

“What if I told you I’m from another universe, would you believe me?”

“No.” His answer was almost instant.

“Well imagine a world where vampires and werewolves existed, hypothetically speaking. Would it be so hard to believe other supernatural elements like reincarnation existed as well?”

Edward looked around him as if he was checking if anyone was nearby to overhear us.

“How do you know about those things?”

“I told you. I’m from another universe”

Edward ground his teeth. He still didn’t change his expression, it would be impressive if I wasn’t scared for my life.

“Let’s say I do believe you, hypothetically speaking. What is it that you know about my family, and how?” He emphasized.

“I know everything. As for the how, you wouldn’t believe me.”

“Try me” he challenged.

“So in this other universe I’m from, the people of this world are characters in a book called Twilight”

He investigated my thoughts as if he was looking for any clues. If I learned anything from Midnight Sun, he was probably overthinking everything I just said. He then laughed spontaneously.

“And this is the best excuse you could come up with?” He asked.

“I told you, you wouldn’t believe me. But it’s the truth.”

He groaned “So what you’re saying, is that my life is fabricated by someone in your world?”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

“And you realise how utterly insane that sounds?”

I did realise how insane that sounds. Me being here was the peak of insanity, but it was the truth.

“I do, I still haven’t figured it out myself. My latest theory is that perhaps there are multiverses, even of worlds we would consider fiction.”

He shook his head. “Who is Bella?”

“What?”

“Bella. The girl you were thinking about in the cafeteria, who is she?”

Of course Bella would be part of the reason why he followed me, he wasn’t supposed to overhear that. Or even know about her before her arrival.

“She’s Chief Swan’s daughter” I answered.

“And?”

“And what?”

“What does she have to do with me?” He asked agitated.

“You’ll find out soon. That is when she arrives here next week”

I wondered why he still haven’t killed me at this point. Was it just to find out about Bella? After all with the knowledge I held he had to assume I was a danger to his family.

“That’s not good enough” he pressed still looking at me, or rather looking through me with his golden eyes.

“Honestly. You’re a smart boy you can figure it out”

I probably shouldn’t challenge him but I grew tired of his condescending tone and line of questioning, adding to the fact that I was exhausted already.

“Why don’t you kill me?”

His lips twitched into a small smile as if there was some humour in what I asked.

“I can’t because I made a promise not to. But I’m still debating it”

“Made a promise to who?” I asked but before Edward was given a chance to answer my question I heard the bell ring inside which means lunch time was over.

“Good talk” I said and quickly walked away from him. My heart was still pounding in my chest from that conversation. His whole demeanour freaked me out and I just wanted to get as far away from him as possible. The next class was gym and I was teamed up with Bella’s future group of friends for volleyball. They didn’t initiate conversation beyond basic introductions so neither did I, I didn’t want to further invade Bella’s life more than I already did.

School ended and it was raining more heavily now. I walked to the parking lot waiting for Charlie to pick me up and saw the Cullens getting into their own cars, they were all looking into my direction especially Edward held his gaze longer than the rest of them. I had no idea what he had told them about me but I knew I no longer felt safe. There was no doubt in my mind that they would debate about my life and they didn’t even know exactly what I knew. I trusted Carlisle wouldn’t let them do anything stupid but what would stop Edward from acting on his own accord? I got chills and closed the zipper of my jacket. Finally Charlie arrived and I got into his cruiser.

----------------------------------------

Finally we arrived home and we stepped into the dry and cozy house.

“I ordered some takeout from the local restaurant. I hope that’s good with you” Charlie said.

“No that’s perfect. I’m starving” I answered.

We sat down in the kitchen and ate our meal. I wasn’t exaggerating, I *was* starving.

“So how was school?” Charlie asked.

“School was fine. I met Doctor Cullen’s son.”

“Which one?” Charlie asked taking another bite.

“Edward. He freaked me out.”

“Did he do something to you?” Charlie asked. He was probably trying to find out if he should investigate Edward Cullen. Which he shouldn’t, for a multitude of reasons.

“It’s not that it’s just the way he talked creeped me out”

“Good because if he does then you should tell me.”

I shouldn’t be discussing this with Charlie Swan, he happened to be the only person I could confide in but he was also Bella’s dad. And Edward happened to be his future son in law. Knowing the history, or in this case future between them I was only adding to the tension.

“Honestly it’s fine, he just annoyed me is all. Did you think about what I asked you earlier?” I asked biting off a huge chunk of pizza.

“Yeah. I don’t think I quite understood what you meant with that”

Of course he didn’t, it was a strange thing to ask and I still didn’t figure out how to explain this to him.

“It’s about- never mind” I sighed shaking my head.

“Thank you for the meal but I’m going to bed. First schooldays are.. quite exhausting” I followed up and stood up, cleaning my own plate and cutlery.

“Alright. Good night” he said.

“Good night” I said and went to ‘my’ room. I put down my backpack and immediately laid down on the bed. I was more than exhausted and if I closed my eyes I surely fell asleep immediately. I grabbed the diary from my backpack to write an update.

Plan: Find out the Cullens’ interest in me but stay CLEAR of Edward Cullen.

My eyes were getting heavy and I was gone.

----------------------------------------

It was dark and there were trees surrounding me.

“Adam” a echoing voice sounded.

I looked around but didn’t see where the voice was coming from. I walked further into the woods and saw a shadowy figure standing between the trees.

“Adam. Come with me” the figure spoke.

“Why?” I asked but the figure didn’t speak again.

I followed it and then there was a bright light.
