Walking out of the gate Rain trekked through the valleys and hills with snowshoes towards the layer, with this much snow carriages were useless outside the paved road.
"If we brought the Iceclimber mounts this would have been much easier, of course how would we have know we would go on such a adventure today?"
"We should hurry Master Rain, if we take to long here we'd make Mister True wait"
Faithfully following the map they managed to find the layer, though above ground it barely looked more than a small burrow for a small critter, all designed to make catching unaware foes easier.
"Alright master, wait here while some of your bodyguards and I go to exterminate the beast"
"Fraid not my dear I've decided it's fair time I start learning how to protect my self" I've been here an entire week and I still haven't got my cheat, I'm not missing any opportunity!
"B-but master, you can't cultivate! You haven't even been given any official training either, with no cultivation or skills this is as good as suicide!"
"I have you don't I? So young yet already at the Xantain realm, what's there for me to fear?"
Hearing that she couldn't help but blush, geez what am I worrying about? I let Rain see my uncool side!
Seeing no more opposition to his claim he decided to stop waiting and head towards the mound, when he was about to enter Isla jumped in ahead of him
While he might be safe with her she couldn't really let him go in first could she?
Once inside Rain took stock of the situation inside and couldn't help but be impressed. It had to be the size of a football field!
Most impressive of all was the hill in the center, one half a collection of shiny treasures that made any spelunker gulp, all gained from from unlucky passerbies with no idea of the dangers around them, the other half a giant shard of icy blue crystal in the middle of the deadly goods.
"Whistle. Well I'll be, we struck it rich didn't we Isla? This guy must be a couple decades old, with this much wealth I'd be able to have fun for at least a month!"
Disregarding her master's weird spending she made sure to remind him. "be careful, while a older layer means more loot it also means a stronger magical beast"
"Come on, just how strong could it be? At most it's low Xantain"
The power ranking of this world was quite straight forward, each realm had nine stages,
Stages 1-3 are considered low tier
Stages 4-6 are considered mid tier
while stages 7-9 are considered high tier
generally stage nine is considered it's own tier and that is because generally, you'd be focusing on your foundation for the next realm in the hopes of breaking through Most however, never manage to reach a breakthrough and die with eternal regrets.
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
The stages for magical beasts are generally the same, the key differences being how beasts cultivate and how magical beasts are generally a tier stronger, a mid tier beast can usually rival a high tier human of the same realm.
The first five realms of cultivation are, body refining, Qi gathering, Xantain, True Qi, and Origin. Different cultures usually have unique names for the stages, though these are the accepted official names
For a reference Isla is high Xantain, she is the same age as Rain, 19, generally your considered average if you managed to reach stage nine body refining by twenty, any who managed to pass the bottleneck before twenty are considered talents, how close you are to twenty when you breakthrough determines how talented you are.
For someone like Isla to be an entire realm above those considered talents just shows how heaven defying she was, any top tier sects would kill to have her join them. Just how powerful is the family capable of using her simply as a personal servant?
In case you were wondering Rain was stage 6 in body refining, that mainly came from him squandering resources from his clan since the previous Rain held no desire to train. Why would he when he held no possibility of ever reaching Qi Gathering?
While they were admiring the treasure trove in front of them the hill started to stir, more specifically the ice crystal in the center
Slowy uncurling itself it lazily blinked out the sleepiness in it's eyes as it stared at the two intruders (they left everyone else outside). Quickly coming to a realization the beast started to tense every muscle of it's being as it rose it's full height... the size of a small house
GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
With a cry of rage it rushed to it's newest prey... turns out it was mid Xantain.
With burning curiosity in his eyes Rain stared as his personal servant dashed out to meet it's charge.
Sparks rose from their Collison that were strong enough to temporary blind him.
Furiously rubbing his eyes to see the outcome of the short contact instead he was forced to hear the sound of two metals hitting each other repeatedly as be waited for his vision to clear.
When he finely managed to regain eyesight he was subjected to the view of Isla standing on top of the beast, her sword poised to execute.
"WAIT!"
??? "What is it master?"
"I wanna do the killing blow, otherwise there won't be any reason for me to have come here!"
"What else would you expect? You didn't think this trash beast would have put up a fight against me did you? I was personally chosen to defend you, If I put my life on the line I'd even be able restrict a low True Qi cultivator! for a short time."
To be chosen as the right hand woman of the Young Master of the North, obviously she'd need to have the best grade of talent imaginable.
Such a lowly beast going against someone of such status should be honored, of course if it was anyone else they would have been slaughtered with no room for negotiation. the Clan of the North can be described by two words, heaven defying
Of course Rain couldn't care about such trifles, he had a beast to slay! Making his way to the beast he could only get on it's back with Isla's help, hey he was only mortal alright!
Once on top of the beast's head he grabbed Isla's sword and raised it above his head with ease. While his life style might have been degenerate he was still a stage six body refining cultivator.
Even a top tier body refiner would hold no chance in piercing the beasts shell, every realm was a near unbridgable gap after all, Rain had one advantage, he was filthy filthy rich.
The sword he was welding was a family heirloom passed from one generation of the Northern clan's guardian to the next, although he wouldn't be able to even harness a shred of it's true power it's edge was strong enough to cut almost every material imaginable.
With a zing the beasts head fell to the ground, never to rise again.
After the act Rain almost fell of the beast, being grabbed by Isla last second. It was not because of bad posture, though it did make him trip easier. It was because of the voice inside his head
[Quest: kill the Snow Lizard complete, congratulations host for vanquishing such a worthy foe.]
[Access to the Endless Prosperity System has been given]
[Calculating rewards: host did not defeat the beast, detracting points, host relied on gear above his level, detracting points, host's first kill, adding points]
Messages like these flowed endlessly across his eyes as his ears was assailed by a slightly cold asexual voice.
At least the voice sounds nice. He thought before passing out from information overload.
