Chapter 9. After the battle

Chapter 9. After the battle

Zortex stood up from the ground. He was a bit tense from the battle, but he guessed that there should be no more enemies after this fight. He walked to where he threw the sword that was impaling him and picked it up. Better to have a weapon with him in any case. He went to the coffin and jumped inside. He could not see anything, therefore he started touching around. After a couple of minutes he came back out with a simple cloak in hand.

“Show me the stats” he told the system.

Dark refined cloak

Made from fine material the cloak will keep the user warm and slightly increase his defense

Durability: 16/23

Restrictions: level 8

Attributes: In the dark the user will become slightly more difficult to see

Steel short sword

A sword made from good materials by an average blacksmith

Durability: 30/40

Restrictions: level 7

Attributes: none

It’s a dark cloak…of course I would become more difficult to see in the dark. Still I’m too lucky that I just reached the level to use it. At least now I have something to wear for when I’ll be outside. I have lost my shirt as soon as I arrived in the dark room. The sword is nice. There are no special attributes, but those you don’t find easily when you are so low level. It is better this way.

In AoL he could not use any item he wanted. There are level restriction. This rule was implemented because otherwise low level ‘players’ could simply get some high level gear from some high level friend and easily dominate enemies at their own level.

If Zortex found such an item he could bring it around, but he would find it too heavy anytime he tried to use it. Level was not the only restriction, sometime also particular stats are required, especially if the item has intrinsic abilities.

There were no values for attack and defense. For example a shield could be used to attack an enemy and a sword could be used to defend against particular attacks. Furthermore the damage of a weapon depends more on how it is used. You would have to test it yourself to compare to others weapons.

There should be something better than this. A quite strong monster in the deepest part of the sewers usually calls for a particular quest. Unfortunately I stumbled into it just by chance, so I cannot take advantage of the reward. Probably in the city there is an NPC with the key to that fucking iron door waiting for someone to pick up the mission. The NPC would have probably explained why this guy turned into an undead. Still, there should be something around here which would work as proof of completing the mission.

Zortex went to the corpse of the skeleton and tried to see if there was anything interesting. After five minutes checking bone by bone he found a ring on a finger of the undead creature.

Ring of Count William McCanter

A nice golden ring the Count received from a friend when he was still young.

Durability: 2/2

Restrictions: none

Attributes: none

A completely useless item. Zortex put it on his finger. At least the name looks nice. If there is a quest maybe I could still complete it. Otherwise I might sell it for money Zortex thought.

He decided to rest a bit more to get back to full health and mana. He wanted to be prepared for anything dangerous there might be. Also he wanted to summon Pravin. He had to admit that the only reason he was able to win the fight was thanks to him. The most of the damage Zortex did was in the moment Pravin tripped the skeleton and when the skeleton was busy killing his pet.

When he was ready he activated the skill but he got a notification:

You cannot summon your pet for 24 hours after his death.

Time remaining: 22 hrs 48 minutes

Ah. I cannot get him back right away. Too bad, I really wanted to tell him how the battle ended and how proud of him I am.

Zortex decided to get back to his room and scale to the other side even before getting Pravin back with him. He didn’t want to risk staying here any longer and lose the determination to get out.
