Chapter 36: Aria and Titus

A cave in the demon territory, Earth 2018, Vamon 1017 AD

Titus's PoV (3rd):

Drenched in demon blood Titus stood within the imp cave panting. Countless corpses of imps surrounded the only eleven year old boy who emitted a savage aura. Burnt, cut, frozen crushed and many more kind of wounds could be seen on the demons that he had slain while approaching his mother.

But all this killing could still not quench the pain he felt in his heart seeing his mother like this. After telling the goddess to lead the way she had appeared as a shining figure that had the outlines of a human woman but it was hard to tell. She then put her hand on his head and knowledge about magic and power had surged into him.

Olydia had not been staying under a magic academy for nothing. Her knowledge of magic far surpassed that of any other being within Vamon. At the same time she granted Titus a little bit of her power unlocking his potential. Those two things combined made him most likely one of the most powerful humans that had ever lived.

At the same time the goddess had projected the location of the imp cave to Titus. Using his new found knowledge he created a doorway leading there using a combination of wind, earth and lightning magic. Space-time magic was extremely difficult as it involved huge amounts of calculations but for the current Titus it was possible.

Folding the earth using wind magic and penetrating it with lightning he stepped out of his room straight into the cave. And when he saw his mothers broken body his eyes became bloodshot and he started chanting like never before.

What followed could only be described as a massacre. Imps were not the strongest demon race to begin with and against Titus who could already be described as an archmage there was no chance of survival. They still tried though but a barrage of spells from almost every element didn't even leave intact corpses behind.

It could be counted as a miracle or maybe Titus had some part of his consciousness left but his mother's body and the infant laying on her breast were left completely unharmed by the destruction left behind by the young mage. Tears dropping down his cheeks Titus stepped forward towards the primitive stone table.

Before his mother he whispered:

„I am sorry mom. So so sorry.“

He then picked up his little sister who despite everything did not even cry. He looked into the emerald green eyes.

„Don't worry little one. I will never ever let anything happen to you, I swear it.“

Melanie's PoV (3rd):

A middle aged couple's house on Earth, Earth 2018, Vamon 1017 AD:

Melanie was crying and desperately trying to hold that disgusting man of her. How did it come to this? It all had started with that accident three and a half years ago. In that fateful bus accident her mother had died and she had only survived because that nice young man had sacrificed her life for her.

Her father had left her and her mother already when her mom was still pregnant with her so after her mother had passed away she was sent from foster family to foster family. But because of her mood swings that could go from overly active to completely depressed no family would take her in for long.

The older she got the more difficult it became and at the same time no one wanted to 'waste' money on her therapy. Because no one had believed her statement about the accident she had been sent from therapist to therapist as well.

The now ten years old Melanie was in the end sent to a middle aged couple that lived near her old hometown. But she didn't know yet that this place would be her worst nightmare. The second day she had arrived her new foster mother went out with friends on a short holiday trip.

And that night her husband showed why he absolutely wanted to adopt her even though she was a problem child. Everyone 'knew' she was a liar and had mental problems and it seemed that he liked little girls.

Which led to the unfortunate situation that Melanie was currently in: The almost bold and about forty year old man with his belly and sweaty palms was trying to take her clothes of. She fought back with all her might not wanting to let him near him so in the end she bit his hand.

Enraged the man used his other hand to hit her hard in the face. Falling backwards from the bed he had dragged her on earlier she landed unfortunately with the back of her head on a paper weight that had been knocked of the table by her earlier struggle. Her body immediately went limp.

A cave in Vamon, Earth 2018, Vamon 1017 AD:

Opening her eyes Melanie had no idea what was happening around her. Strange red skinned creatures were busy around her doing something like cleaning. Then she heard a soft voice next to her and turning her head she was shocked.

Not quiet the same but she was held by a woman that looked almost like her mother! Even though unlike her mom that woman had black hair, she had the same green eyes, the same heart shaped face, and even though she looked famined and weak and even though she couldn't understand the words she could feel the love that radiated from those eyes tenderly looking at her.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

And then those eyes broke. A deep sadness filled her young heart but she couldn't cry. She had not cried in a long time. After her mother had died she had cried for weeks every night. Then when no one believed her and she was sent from foster family to foster family at some point the tears dried up. She just couldn't cry anymore as if the well of tears had at some point dried up.

But still the sadness that filled her heart was no less then when she had found out that her mother had died. Still confused and not knowing what she was supposed to do suddenly loud noises came from a direction Melanie could not make out. It sounded like explosions and she could hear many high pitched voices cry out in chaos.

The noise became louder and louder and it was evident that it was coming nearer. Shivering she closed her eyes. When she woke up she was still in an alarmed state because the last thing she remembered was that disgusting man assaulting her. Adding to that the confusing surrounding and the scary noise it was no wonder that she had lost her nerves.

And suddenly everything quieted down. She then heard footsteps and some words in a language she couldn't understand. Afterwards she felt being picked up and when she opened her eyes, dark blue eyes were looking back at her.

When she looked into those eyes and being held by those arms somehow and hearing those warm words even though she couldn't understand them, for the first time in a long while she felt safe.

Aria's PoV (3rd):

Von Dunkelstein Family estate, Earth 2021, Vamon 1023 AD:

The small figure of Aria von Dunkelstein was quietly hurrying through the corridors of the von Dunkelstein family estate. Her crimson red hair that went down to her waist was flying behind her. The six year old girl had emerald green eyes that slightly angled giving her an Asian feel. A delicate face with cute features that still held some of a baby's roundness but one could see that she would be an exceptional beauty in the future.

She was wearing a black and violet dress giving her a slight dark Lolita look. She was on her way to her brother to show him the newest spell she had invented. Aria von Dunkelstein was a well kept secret.

The family head, Titus's father Steven von Dunkelstein had at first refused to take her in but when Titus had threatened him to leave the house with her if necessary he gave in. Still There was no love between Lyria's husband and Aria.

If people had known about her they would have been shocked. Six years old and she was easily able to compete with her brother when it came to magic. Her attributes as well, she was the only known existence that combined light and darkness magic.

And her aptitude for magic was astounding. From the age of two she had started talking to her brother and from then onward she had started to study magic and it turned out that she was even more gifted than her brother.

At the age of five she defeated Titus for the first time in a magic duel. She was absorbing magic knowledge like a sponge and it seemed like she was cultivating just by breathing. Her magic strength and comprehension ability for her age could be said to monstrous.

Little did anyone suspect that her magic was indeed cultivating itself. It was the heritage of the Demon Lord cursing through her veins that attracted darkness elemental particles whenever she was surrounded by darkness and the blessing of Olydia attracted light elemental particles whenever she was surrounded by light.

Even before being reborn Melanie or now Aria had already and exceptional memory and comprehension. And now after maturing for six years and under the guidance of her brother that loved her dearly she was not falling short even compared to the genius that Titus von Dunkelstein was.

But no one knew about it because Steven von Dunkelstein as family head obviously did not want it to be known that he was housing a half demon. He had loved his wife dearly and the constant reminder of what had happened to her that was Aria had all his grief directed towards her.

Titus was the only reason that he allowed her to stay at the same time he was the only reason why she stayed. Her mind was sixteen years old by now and only she knew that she had not even shown half of her powers to her brother or anyone else so she could leave if she so desired.

One has to know that high level demons like the demon lord would pass on some of her magic and some of their spells to their offspring. They were called hereditary magic. Magic the offspring would know by instinct to giving them a chance to survive in the cruel society that was the demon race.

At the same time the more Aria learned about light magic the more the benefits of Olydia's blessing showed. She learned spells very very easily and the spirits of light all loved her same as the spirits of darkness. She had succeeded in summoning her own spirits at the age of four so even preinvoked spells were possible for her.

All for her brother. Since her mother had died in her last life her brother was the first person to completely accept her and love her unconditionally. And she loved him back just as much for it. She smiled when she thought that she was about to see her brother. It wasn't perfect but she really hoped the small happiness she had found here would last.

But the world is just not fair.
