Chapter 4: The Last Flame, Part 4/4

As the light faded, Aiden was enveloped by fresh air, the scent of grass, and the warmth of sunlight—sensations that felt impossibly alive. He felt young and whole, free from pain and injury. Confused, he opened his eyes to find a familiar face—a girl with golden hair and gentle blue eyes gazing into his. Her voice, filled with joy and worry, broke through his disbelief.

"Aiden!" she exclaimed, embracing him tightly, her wooden sword falling to the grass. "You’re—! You’re okay! I’m so sorry for hitting you too hard! It was just an accident!"

His heart raced, and he trembled as he touched her—warm and real. A memory surged back; this was where they had their first sword sparring session in the garden behind Noah's Mansion.

"Serena…" he choked out, tears streaming down his face. He held her close, overwhelmed by her presence. Not understanding his tears, Serena tightened her grip, trying to comfort him.

"I—" His voice was hoarse. "I’m fine, Serena." He dismissed the pain in his head from her earlier blow.

"Really, Aiden? You're really fine?" she asked, her eyes puffy from worry.

Aiden nodded, regaining some composure. "Yes, I assure you I'm fine." Yet his mind was a whirlwind—wasn’t he supposed to be dead? Why was he back in his younger self?

Nothing made sense, especially considering the future he had witnessed in Eden. Aiden sighed internally, realizing that perhaps this was better than he had imagined.

He remembered the significant events to come and softly caressed her cheek, wiping away her tears.

'I’ll ensure that those who matter are preserved, especially you, Serena. I’ll protect you with all my strength,' he silently vowed as the sunlight broke through the clouds, as if affirming his promise to her and the world around them.
