[CH3] - It really is a game

"Happy birthday!!!!"

I looked up to see an enormous birthday cake standing on a table in the middle of a very large room. My mother, the queen, was standing next to it with a big smile while My father, the king, was nowhere to be found.

"Where is Father?" I asked her, not really caring in any way but I still had to play the role of child prince. I'll come back to that later.

"He is on a conquest to liberate the neighboring state to the west."

How Mother could say something like that without any hint of worry on her face, was beyond me. And 'Liberating' is not the word I would use.

"Thank you for the cake, Mom." I walked up to the cake that was almost as big as me and thought it wouldn't be so bad to dip my finger in it.

Out of nowhere my hand was grabbed and pulled up. "NO! Prince Thane, you can have some later at the party." a maid said while pulling me back.

Mom are you just going to let a maid treat me like this?

She just stood there smiling. " Don't worry son. Tonight we have a party for your 5th birthday. So you can eat as much of the cake as you want."

"Fine..." I said, audibly disappointed.

I went up to Mom and hugged her. Then I left for my room.

I picked up my diary and opened it on the first available empty page.

So you are probably wondering what happened these past 5 years for me to be walking around and seemingly enjoying the royal way of life. Let me tell you it wasn't all just sunshine and rainbows, I can tell you that.

Apart from having to live 2 lives, I can probably say I was lucky I was born this way instead of just being dropped in. It gave me the chance to literally learn how to walk, again. There were many hit-and-miss situations where 1 of the 2 bodies would do something it shouldn't. It mostly just copied the other because I wasn't able to separate the impulses sent from my central mind. I still have trouble with it from time to time but it is working a lot better now.

There are some... impulses, that I really have to focus on to distinguish where they are coming from. Like being thirsty, hungry, tired, etc, etc. But I can currently keep them separated well enough to live normally.

I also found a way to manage 2 lives. Where my Royal life was pretty interesting, my peasant life was boring and hard. And I'm not even talking about being a girl there. Which is a totally different dimension.

Earlier I mentioned that I would come back to why I was living the normal life of both sides.

Well, as a baby I really can't do much, can I? So I decided that I would do my best to just grow for a few years and learn how to live as 2 separate people. Of course, I also had to change some mannerisms as Selene. I can't behave like a guy on that front, right? As much of a struggle as it was, I think I am doing quite well for myself.

Oh, I almost forgot. I found out by accident, about 1 year of birth, that I could pull up a status hud. Not the type you see in other isekai Anime where there is some panel floating in the air but like a sort of AR in my eyes. It scared me at first as I didn't know how to disable it, but after a while, I got so used to it that I keep having it turned on all the time now.

Now I was able to see all the stats I had and the level I was. I had an HP(health points) bar for some reason and an MP(Mana Points) bar. Which was handy to know. At first, I thought it worked like the normal mechanics of any RPG game. You just throw on clothes for armor, accessories for stats boosts, and resistance. But that wasn't how it seemed to work.

I played the early access of the game and know that some parts changed but this was different than I remembered. The way it works now is basically like normal training gives you more strength and endurance, training now gives you, sort of, XP on Strength for example.

After training hard en long enough it will level up and your Strength stat will go up by 1.

How I know this, is because when I found out I could use magic I tried to teach myself. Quickly I would lose all my MP and fall asleep. One day, I woke up and noticed my MP bar had grown. Well, the number of MP that is. That's when I found out I had a status screen I could see and after some experimenting, saw the XP bar rise for MGC(Magic) when I ran out of MP. The base stat for magic was 5 but after 4 years of training, it has risen to 15 now.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I am super strong now because I have nothing to compare it to. Whatever comes, comes. There is, however, one thing certain. This will help me keep track of my growth and hopefully release me from being chained to the plot of this stupid game.

"I think that is enough talking for today. Better take a quick nap before the party."

I closed the diary and put it in a drawer.

Calling in a servant I asked to be left alone for a while and they could come and get me when the party starts. After that, I lay down on my bed and focused on Selene.Let's get some work done over there.
