Chapter 2: A New Beginning

Chapter 2: A New Beginning

Fuji’s consciousness stirred. Slowly, he became aware of the sensation of soft bedding beneath him and the faint scent of hay and earth in the air. His eyelids fluttered open, revealing a rustic wooden ceiling above him. The room was dimly lit, the golden light of dawn seeping through a small window.

“Where… am I?” he murmured, his voice hoarse. His body felt lighter, almost unfamiliar, and his head throbbed with disorientation. He pushed himself up with trembling arms and looked around.

The room was small and simple. A wooden dresser stood against one wall, a few folded clothes resting on top of it. A faint breeze drifted through the cracked window, carrying the sound of birdsong. Everything was strange yet oddly comforting.

Fuji swung his legs off the bed and stood, but his balance faltered. “Whoa…” He leaned on the bedpost, his legs feeling unsteady. Catching his breath, he noticed something peculiar about his hands—they were smaller, softer than he remembered.

A glint from across the room caught his attention. A mirror hung on the wall near the dresser. Compelled by curiosity and a creeping sense of unease, he staggered toward it.

When he saw his reflection, he froze.

Staring back at him was someone else entirely. Snowy white hair framed a youthful face with glowing neon-purple eyes that shimmered like gemstones. His skin was a rich, soft brown, unblemished and smooth. He raised a trembling hand, and the reflection did the same.

“This… isn’t me,” he whispered, his heart racing. His mind reeled as fragments of memory resurfaced—the robbery, the knife, the pain, and finally, the darkness.

As if on cue, a sudden chime echoed in his mind.

Ding!

A translucent screen appeared before him, floating in midair like a hologram.

The stats were basic, but they filled Akira with an odd sense of possibility. This system was structured like a game, but the stakes were clearly his new reality.

He turned back to the room, scanning for clues about his new life. On a nearby desk lay a small leather-bound book and a wooden hairbrush. He opened the book, which appeared to be a journal. Inside were sketches of farming tools and notes about crop rotations.

The door creaked open, startling him. A girl of about 10 peeked in, her brown hair tied in twin braids. “Big brother, you’re awake!” she said with a wide smile.

“Uh… yeah.” Akira’s voice was hesitant, but he tried to sound natural.

“Father said you’ve been sick for two days. You had us worried!” she said, stepping into the room. “Breakfast is ready. Come eat before it gets cold!”

Akira nodded, still processing the situation. “Thanks… uh, I’ll be right there.”

As she left, he clenched his fists. “So, this is my life now. Akira Azami, a farmer’s son.” He glanced back at the mirror, his reflection a reminder of the extraordinary circumstances.

Opening the Inventory tab, he saw it was empty for now. But the Quest and Titles menus reminded him there was much to explore.

“This system… if it’s anything like the games I used to play, it’s my ticket to survival and maybe even greatness in this world.” He smirked, determination flaring in his neon-purple eyes.

Straightening his back, Akira stepped out of the room, ready to face his new life in Noble Eternity.
