Death
In those fleeting moments, time seemed to distort, stretching into an endless void yet passing in mere seconds. Alexander's consciousness flickered, barely grasping the chaos unfolding around him. Distant voices pierced the fog in his mind—some close enough to touch, yet seemingly worlds away. Fragments of sound reached him: shouts, desperate calls for help, and a chilling, unnatural cacophony reminiscent of a buzz saw entwined with a panther's roar. "What in the world is that?" he wondered hazily, but his energy waned, and darkness reclaimed him.
Drifting in and out of awareness, new and strange sounds invaded his senses. His eyelids, heavy as lead, lifted slightly, revealing a maelstrom of lightning and fire dancing wildly in his blurred vision. As he lay there, powerless, the shifting sensation in his left hand brought a faint spark of comfort. "Aurum's still with me," he thought, a smile touching his lips in his dazed state before darkness swept over him once more. This time, his plunge into the void lasted much longer, a deep, enveloping unconsciousness from which he did not soon awaken.
Alexander's consciousness was suddenly awash in a vibrant kaleidoscope of color, his mind's eye bombarded by a rapid succession of images. It was as if the entirety of his memories surged through him, each one fleeting yet intensely vivid. He found himself reliving each moment, experiencing them anew in what felt like less than a heartbeat. Despite the overwhelming nature of this experience, Alexander found solace in it, immersing himself in the warmth of cherished memories—the laughter shared with family, the milestones and achievements that had punctuated his life. Each image was a reminder of a life well-lived, a journey he could look back on with pride and no regrets.
But as this visual and emotional torrent reached its crescendo, the colors faded to black once more. In this quiet, dark space, a sobering thought crystallized in Alexander's mind, "I'm dying, aren't I...?" The question hung in the void, unanswered yet deeply resonant.
"Yes, you are," a voice unexpectedly responded, and with those words, color flooded back into Alexander's vision. This time, it wasn't a mental phenomenon; he was truly seeing. Even more astonishingly, he found himself standing, unscathed and intact. But it wasn't just his unharmed state that bewildered him; it was where he stood. Beneath his feet was a cloud, a real, tangible cloud. The very idea should have been ludicrous, yet there he was, quite literally on cloud nine.
Under any other circumstances, Alexander might have spiraled into disbelief or panic. But an inexplicable tranquility enveloped him, a serene calm that pervaded his thoughts and being. It was as if the surreal nature of his surroundings had ushered him into a state of zen-like acceptance. He simply existed, untroubled and at peace, amidst a scenario that defied all logic and reason.
It was only then that Alexander's attention was drawn to a figure standing about twenty feet away from him. To describe this entity as merely a "man" seemed inadequate, if not outright incorrect. The being possessed human-like features, but they were subtly elongated, lending an air of otherworldliness. His skin, upon closer inspection, exhibited a faint blue sheen, shimmering delicately under the sunlight in a way that was both mesmerizing and ethereal.

"Hello," Alexander greeted, his voice even and devoid of particular emotion. He felt strangely detached, yet curious. "Are you the one who spoke to me?"
"I am," the being responded, his tone as succinct and straightforward as his words.
"You said I was dying?" Alexander continued, his voice still remarkably neutral, as if he were discussing something as mundane as the weather.
"I did," came the reply, brief and devoid of further explanation, mirroring the directness of their entire exchange.
“So…that’s it then?” Alexander found himself asking, a nascent sensation stirring within him, elusive and difficult to define.
“That is it,” the being confirmed calmly.
“Who are you?” Alexander's voice gained a hint of emotion, the budding seed of feeling inside him burgeoning with each passing second.
“I am a Harvest Spirit,” the entity answered tersely, offering no further elucidation.
Alexander waited for more, his expectation hanging in the air. As the silence stretched, the seed of emotion within him swelled, morphing into a raw, visceral feeling: anger. “What the hell is a Harvest Spirit? And where am I? Where is Aurum? I need some goddamn answers!” he demanded, his voice laden with frustration and confusion.
As the Harvest Spirit began to reply, its attention was sharply diverted. In that moment, Alexander was engulfed by an indescribable, formidable presence. An invisible, yet palpable force seemed to permeate the air, its immense power feeling as though it could obliterate his very being in an instant.
Frozen, Alexander was acutely aware of the stark contrast between his own existence and the overwhelming force emanating from this unseen entity. His mind, body, and soul trembled under the weight of this disparity. Suddenly, a new voice cut through the tension. “Get the fuck away from him, you damn parasite!”
The Harvest Spirit, without so much as a backward glance at Alexander, vanished from sight in a blur of motion, retreating with a speed beyond Alexander's comprehension. As quickly as it had appeared, the oppressive presence dissipated, leaving Alexander feeling inexplicably revitalized and clear-headed. He scanned the cloud island, trying to make sense of the surreal events until his gaze landed on a figure descending toward him. The form of a man, seemingly out of nowhere, approached, prompting a new surge of questions in Alexander’s mind.
“Damn, I can't stand those things,” the man remarked with such casual nonchalance that it momentarily distracted Alexander from the sheer absurdity of his circumstances. “You got lucky I showed up when I did. Those creatures, they can snatch your soul away,” he elaborated, his voice carrying a distinct Australian accent. This peculiar detail momentarily sidetracked Alexander's train of thought.
Before Alexander could fully process this revelation, the man extended his hand in a friendly gesture, his demeanor surprisingly light considering he had just claimed to have saved Alexander's soul. Flashing a grin as if such events were part of a day's work, he introduced himself, “Hey there! Name's Richer, and believe it or not, I'm a God!”
