The nukes did their job and shattered the huge meteor into thousands of little meteors, most of which would burn up in the atmosphere, but the huge sections, with the temple and metal box, and other large areas with buildings would likely survive the friction of entering the atmosphere, and so while the meteor shower would look beautiful over almost all over the globe, the nations of the world let people know that it was at their own risk to be outside of the community shelters.

The news also received reports from scientists of 'unknown energy readings' coming from the fragments.  The governments highly recommend that if any of the meteorites make landfall that you do not approach and dial 9-1-1 if someone were to find one.  Personally, Reginald thought that they should at least offer a reward for any of the meteorites turned in.

Reginald didn't have any friends in the town he lived in, and really didn't care much about finding a place in the local shelter because he wouldn't be missed.  He sent out messages to his guild that he would be watching the meteor shower from his back yard and that he would see them in the morning.  At that point, Reginald figured that all he would see was a bunch of shooting stars as he stared at the night sky, and that would be fine with him.  After thinking about it, though, the empty lot at the top of the hill would actually make a much better viewing spot, so he quickly popped a pair of popcorn bags and grabbed a six pack of cola before heading out to his truck and drove to the lot.

When he got there, he found out that he wasn't the only one with that idea, as the gates to the lot were open and unchained, and a guy was sitting in a chair with a sign that said 'Meteor Shower BBQ - $5.00 per person'.  Reginald laughed and handed the guy a twenty, getting three fives back and was directed to where to park and that the owners of the land were serving food at the large flat zone that he had been planning to lay down and watch the shower from.  When Reginald got out of his truck and headed to the food area, he brought with him the popcorn and soda as an offering for the impromptu party.

"Why thank you," an absolutely stunning young woman with a soft soprano voice stated when she saw him approach while a six foot tall man with a three foot beard was grilling burgers and dogs behind her.  "It's so kind when guests bring supplies to the party."  She grabbed an empty bowl and put it on the table, meanwhile going to the cooler and opening it to find room for the six pack she quickly swiped from Reginald's hands.  All he could do was chuckle and empty the popcorn into the bowl while chuckling before he grabbed a plate to get a burger and dog.

"So, where do you think the temple and the box will be crashing?  Shame that such a beautiful structure would survive the destruction of a planet, travel to another, only to be destroyed either by entry heat or crashing into the ground," the man asked as he served up the food.

"Well, I'm hoping that they won't crash anywhere near, but with my luck?  I'd guess one of them lands on my house," Reginald laughed softly, not knowing just how close to the truth he was with that statement.  "The question I have been wondering about is what the unknown energy is...  Are we going to face one of those LitRPG Mana Apocalypses?"

"What's LitRPG?"

"Literature Role Playing Game, it's a subgenre of SciFi/Fantasy that usually deals with the tropes of summoned heroes, reincarnating in another world, virtual reality MMOs, the transfer of human consciousness between physical and digital, or 'what would happen if Mana came to Earth', where the game and system elements are just as important as the story, otherwise there is a disconnect and it can feel odd."

"Well, it looks like the show is getting started," the lady stated as a bunch of other vehicles pulled in, and the guy from the gate got out of one of the vehicles.

A huge streak appeared in the sky overhead and there was a sonic boom as well as an explosion from inside the rock high in the sky, having shattered into a ton of little pieces.  "There's no way the government's gonna be able to clean up this mess.  Hell, we don't even have a way to figure out what exatly the energy those meteors are leaving in our atmosphere, and what change it will have on the population and are..."

Over the course of the next hour and a half, the sky was full of burning and exploding pieces of another planet, making a beautiful scene from where we stood, until a small chunk survived and crashed down not a hundred yards away from us on the lot.  "It's a good thing that these lots are so big, since it's not quite a metropolis," one of the people laughed as we approached it slowly with a fire extinguisher.

"All circuits are busy," another chuckled as he tried calling 9-1-1 to report the location of the meteorite chunk.

As they were spraying down the fires around the crater, a much larger chunk crashed down sending them all sprawling from the impact resonance, and then a wave of heat and pressure.  Meanwhile, the sound of an absolutely huge chunk crashing down a few miles away sent them bouncing and crying in pain again.  There were more crashes and explosions from around the town and the surrounding area.  As we got to our feet, someone looked in the direction of the town's shelter and swore, drawing our attention towards the town.  The town was on fire!
