Interlude: Drawn In
“The feel of the tether pulling me back towards the Elder Summoner’s home and to the Summoned Prince gets stronger every moment and it’s making my claws itch.” I look around at my surroundings watching for any sign of the Ywana thugs as I continue to dry my fur and hair from my dip in the Lake of Endings. “I finally lost the Ywana bastards, going to have to avoid their stalls and warehouses from here on out. I think they’ve started lacing their food with tracking spells, crafty in a disgusting and disturbing sort of way. At least I got to leave them a nice smelly pile of crap to remember me by even if I do have to abandon the other food I’d hidden after hitting their storehouse.” I turn back towards the pull and the Elder’s home. Bracing myself for the inevitable clash. “She’s old so there’s at least a chance she speaks Pantheren.”
It takes me well over two hours to carefully and inconspicuously make my way back along the empty streets. It’s the dead of night but there are still eyes out and watching.
“Well, I’m here hidden and watching the front door to the Elder Summoner’s house like some kind of stalker waiting for the winged Prince to come out. No way those Owl’s Court Owls haven’t seen me. Not sure why they haven’t pinched me yet but I’m going to count my blessings.”
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
“What’s that?” A noise in the distance catches my attention. “Footsteps, and lots of them. That doesn’t make sense.” Shifting around in my hiding space to get a better ear or eyes on the oddity I pinpoint the sound. Half a hundred or so Crocadores and a double handful of other races, all of them armed, were coming this way. “Well this can’t be good.” Out of the corner of my eye I saw the Owl’s move. As they got closer the group started chanting “Down with Djinn !” and “No Djinn Prince!” One of the Owl’s took flight heading towards the oncoming crowd. The Owl got within maybe ten Metre when a bolt of lightning struck down from the sky and pierced the Owl. “Not good, not good at all!” The other two Owl’s let out screeches and then disappeared into stealth. “That is not going to go well. But if they have the nerve to attack the Owl’s then they’re coming for blood.” Dropping down from my hiding place I could hear the sounds of battle between the Owl’s and the mob and it was getting closer.
“This is going to get me in so much trouble. Stupid System Quests!” Sprinting to the Elder’s door and triggering my Racial ability just before reaching it, I smashed into the door shoulder first and it all but exploded.
Taking a moment to pop my shoulder back into place I looked around and shouted “Come with me if you want to live! A mob is fighting the Owls right now but I don’t know if they can hold the line with just three against more than half a hundred!” The dumbfounded looks on the people’s faces confirmed that they had no idea what I was saying.
