Prologue: Death

"Argh..."

I groaned in pain as I slumped the ground.

My eyes were blurry and I felt my consciousness fading as I felt pain all over my body.

Numerous bones broken, wounds all over my body and blood continuously flowing left me groaning in pain.

Through my hazy eyes, I raised my head and glared in front of me.

A large creature stood towering over me. Reddish skin, red eyes, two large horns and the head of a bull and tail while wielding a large axe.

A minotaur. A creature from fairy tails but this is no mere fantasy.

This is reality and the pain is more than enough to convince me of that.

I spat out blood as I squeezed out any strength I had left. I struggled to rise up to my feet as I grabbed my weapons I dropped when I crashed into the wall after getting sent flying by the monster's axe.

A small pistol and a knife.

Would be ridiculous task if it weren't for the fact these weapons are enchanted with powerful magic.

As I hurriedly prepared myself, the monster rushed towards me with its axe held high.

Gritting my teeth, I rolled to the side and aimed at the monster, my gun shooting off small blue lights at the monster.

Bullets infused with magic that could pierce through its skin.

Its axe brought down to where I was just a moment ago, it left a small creator in its wake.

I hurriedly stood up as the monster roared in rage.

"Last one..."

This minotaur was the last one remaining in its group.

I closed in the distance and slashed its waist before it could raise its weapon then jumped back to gain distance.

The monster roared once again as it glares at me.

"Can't afford to take any more damage at this point... I'll have to be careful."

I muttered through my breath.

Fortunately, this type of monster isnt that smart. I should be able take it out.

The minotaur roared as it rushed at me.

I watched its movements carefully while getting ready to dodge.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

I ducked down to avoid the axe's trajectory then shot bullets into its face.

The monster roared and swung its axe again but I dodged by rolling to the right. I fired more bullets into its back but the monster ignored it, blinded by rage, as it continued to lunge at me.

"Tsk! Shallow wounds arent working... I better get in close."

Observing its movements, I sought a chance to end it all and bring this fight to a close. My injuries aren't helping and if this continues, I am done for.

I thought of a plan and drew close to the wall. The minotaur charged at me with its horns this time.

"Great!"

I said as I watched it. I got ready to jump out of the way in a moment's notice as I carefully observed it.

As it drew near, I jumped to the left and saw its horns get stuck in the wall.

I immediately got close to its head and thrusted my knife straight into its right eye.

The monster roared in pain, letting go of its axe for the first time.

"I'm not done yet!"

I dashed to the right and aimed my gun at its other eye.

In a great show of skill, I managed to shoot its left eye. Now, its blind.

As it raged on, I looked at my ring and imagined myself pulling out something. A green object with a pin appeared in my right hand.

A grenade. I took out its safety pin and threw it at the minotaur.

This was a grenade, an enchanted one whose fire power has been enhanced by magic.

*Boom!*

The monster got blown back, crashing to the wall, severely wounded from the explosion.

It gave off a feeble roar that grew weaker until it grew silent.

I gave a sigh of relief as I slowly walked over to grab my weapons.

Then... I heard the sound of something flying through the air but I as I hurriedly turned to the source, I saw arrows flying towards me.

Not good!

I tried to dodge but... My body didnt listen to me.

"Ah!"

I screamed in pain as several arrows hit my wounded body.

I realized it then.

My body... Is too injured and tired from all the battles I've fought as I ran desperately to survive.

I gazed towards the direction where the arrows flew and found several figures through my hazy eyes.

"Damm it... Zombies... From fallen adventurers..."

I muttered.

Zombies. Reanimated corpses from recently dead creatures. Through my eyes, I see the clothes and armor that belong to modern hunters. They must have died from around here. And probably a long time ago too.

"Ugh... Damm it all... Is this the end?"

I felt my eyelids closing even as I desparately tried to open them.

Zombies. A type of undead either raised by magic or by mana in certain environments. These undead possess the power they had while they were still alive and some can even cast magic. Hence the need to cremate bodies in mana-rich environments else they would rise eventually as undead.

As my consciousness began to fade, I immediately understood how I lost.

While I defeated the minotaur, I still got injured by it.

I was facing a few of them so I got injured while taking them out one at a time.

I didnt sense their presence until it was too late. The zombies that is...

I was too focused on the enemy and neglected my surroundings

I've fought for several days now, having little rest in this hellish world. That took a heavy toll on my senses.

So, I failed to notice them until it was too late.

If I had been in peak condition, I could have taken care of them. Sadly, there are no if's in this world.

"Well... I can rest now at least."

I muttered.

It was a hectic life when the monsters appeared and the apocalypse happened. Humanity lost and I spent my last years desparately trying to survive with my friends as our numbers slowly dwindled until only I was left.

And now... Its my turn to die. But there's no one left to send me off. The last one dies a lonely death alone.

As the last human, it was inevitable.

Even so...

"I tried my best... To live..."

I spoke feebly as I drew my last breath.
