Chapter 1: Reminisce

"Mn..."

I let out a yawn as I woke up.

Slowly opening my eyes, I gaze at the ceiling.

"What an old dream... Or perhaps nightmare?"

I recalled my dream from last night.

It was the last moments before my death.

I laughed bitterly as I recalled my desperation as I struggled to escape, to survive and my resignation at the end.

None of those creatures exist anymore.

"After all, I destroyed them. Either they died by my hand or my subordinates."

I recalled the monsters I faced at my life's end.

Minotaurs and undead awakened.

"Minotaurs do exist still though."

As subordinates I created.

Upon my death, my soul was sealed into a newly born dungeon core and I became the dungeon itself.

I gained the ability to manage this dungeon, expand it and command the hordes of monsters dwelling within.

I sat upright as I recalled my past centuries ago.

As a newly-born dungeon and as a human, I was disoriented for a few days while I readjusted and recalled my memories.

It took a few days but I gained a hold of myself and wanted to rush to seek out my friends. But I remembered I was stuck as a dungeon core within a small cave with no monsters at all.

Dungeons.

Labyrinths that are found underground or in the surface hoarding various treasures and commanding hordes of monsters within.

Dungeons lack a will of their own but they do possess intelligence and knowledge. They naturally seek preservation and to expand their dungeons.

To do so, they seek out the mana from other prey. They gather treasures to lure out various creatures and construct areas and monsters to slay them.

Dungeons are divided into those with a dimension and those without.

Dimensional Dungeons build a surface area surrounded by powerful monsters then a portal within. The portal leads to the world the dungeon itself created within a self-created sub-dimension. These dungeons are dangerous since the worlds within could range from a forest to an undersea world. They have monsters who build an ecosystem within that are adapted to those environments often extreme.

These dungeons are incredibly dangerous and can summon hordes of monsters or manifest their worlds within to the surface world, terraforming the land.

These worlds collapse in itself once the dungeon core is destroyed.

Next is surface dungeons that expand upon the world itself. They can restructure the land to expand and call monsters in the environment to protect it to form a mutual relationship. Dimensional dungeons can as well. These dungeons are quite predictable as they adapt to the lands they are born in.

A surface dungeon born in the sea would be guarded by sea or aquatic creatures.

While they're called that, Dimensional Dungeons are referred to as Gates and Surface Dungeons as Labyrinths.

Which made it easier and simpler to understand.

I was a surface dungeon. A cavern type. All I had at the start were bats and rats.

"Those were rather hard times..."

I wanted to rush in and look for my loved ones and comrades but stuck as a labyrinth, I couldnt move very far.

I did send my monsters to search but I couldn't control them to move very far.

That was frustrating.

In the end, I focused on building up my strenght and searched for the rest of my kind.

I expanded my dungeon, build new ones, subdued various monsters and created new ones to form a massive army. I had a will and personality.

I was different from those brainless dungeons who only sought self-preservation but had little intelligence to speak of.

And when I searched throughout the world...

"There were no humans left alive."

I conquered the world. I am the last human remaining. I've reclaimed everything. The land, the sky, the sea. All of it is mine now. My monsters roam and rule the world. Many dungeons exist. All a part of me.

"I tried a lot of things back then."

Reviving dead humans to having their spirits possess new bodies.

Yet it all failed.

Resurrection had far too many limitations and the people who went on to possess new bodies eventually chose to pass on and leave me behind.

Time travel looked possible and I spent centuries studying it. Yet it was a vain effort in the end.

Far too many difficulties in attempting it and too many issues in practice and theory.

And certain restrictions I found no way to circumvent or bypass.

"And in the end... Just like the last moments of my life, I was resigned to face an inevitable defeat."

I spent many long years contemplating on this and what I should do.

I considered suicide to join my loved ones but... I had too much pride.

All my comrades fought and struggled to live, to survive.

How could I look at any of them in the eye if I said I committed suicide? That was too pathetic of an end.

What followed after that was a dull yet peaceful time.

I immersed myself in research, studying various disciplines and after that, other hobbies.

The world was more or less restored and due to the monsters and mana, Earth turned into some fantastical wonderland where various animals evolved to gain magic and new animas and plants exist.

I jumped out of bed and turned my gaze outside.

Sunlight was seeping through the glass and I saw a lush forest outside the fence.

"This world is quite beautiful now. Especially when humanity came and gone. Its like they never existed."

In those centuries, I spent my time practicing and studying things like sports, games, and art. I was especially interested in food and sweets.

I daresay I can make the best food in the history of the human race now.

Even now, I was still immersing myself in various hobbies. Raising various plants and creatures for furthering my research.

It was quite tough at the start but I've more or less adapted to the times.

I am the last human and so long as I live, my race will never die out truly.

I will live on to see everything in this world from the beginning till the end.

"Now, lets start my day."

I raised my hand and a bell appeared.

I lightly rung it and two spatial ripples appeared.

Dressed in maid clothes, two beautiful women appeared. The first a stern mature woman with short black hair and a modest chest. The second one was a tall woman with long golden hair.

"Lisa, Verna, prepare my breakfast."

I ordered them.

"" By Your Will, Master. ""

They both bowed reverantly.

They vanished the same way they came.

Now, lets see what the day will bring.
