"Brat, I'll kill you."
The cop hissed through gritted teeth, and the veins on his forehead and neck budged. He looked like a murderous and crazy maniac.
Being strangled by a robust man, the young man couldn't breathe in the slightest. His body convulsed as an effect of the event. He attempted to pull the cop's hand away from his neck, but that was a futile attempt. The cop was too strong. The young man's vision started to blur as he desperately gasped for air, feeling his consciousness slip away. Panic surged through his veins as he realized the severity of the situation.
The young man's face gradually turned red. If he were not able to free himself from the grip, he would die for sure.
Suddenly, he kicked hard at the cop's balls.
"Arghh!"
That attempt was successful, as the cop immediately left the young man and grabbed his balls in pain.
The young man took the opportunity to fill his lungs with air, but he didn't have enough time, so he immediately dashed toward the staircases that led to the second floor.
"You better pray to God that I don't find you!"
The cop yelled. As the young man sprinted up the stairs, his heart pounded in his chest, fueled by adrenaline. He knew he had to find a hiding spot quickly to evade the enraged cop who was hot on his heels.
As soon as the young man arrived at the second, he saw a window nearby. That was the quick way to leave the building.
"Sir, where are they?"
"I only found one, and he has gone upstairs."
"Where are the others?"
"I don't know; check there; it must be a way to a certain place."
"You're right? It leads to an underground tunnel. We expected this, so we already have two cops guarding all the tunnels. They can't escape!"
"That's great. Now head upstairs, and if you find him, don't hesitate to kill him."
"Alright, Sir"
Listening to the conversation, the young man couldn't help being frightened. And he could hear footsteps making their way upstairs.
He didn't have time to think about whether he should jump through the window or not. He quickly leaped through it, crashing the glass, and he collapsed to the ground outside with a loud thump.

Luckily, he jumped from the second floor, so it was close to the ground, and he didn't suffer any serious injuries.
When he stood, he noticed dumping bins next to him. He wondered why he didn't fall into the bins. The pain would have been less.
"He's here!"
Someone shouted.
"Kill him!"
The young man raised his head and stared in the direction of the voices, only to see a cop poking himself through the broken window he had just jumped from.
The cop was pointing a gun at him. In the next second, he felt severe pain spreading throughout him. Then layers of blood could be seen trickling down his forehead.
His vision went blurry, and darkness pulled him in.
"Sir, won't this bring us trouble?"
"No, I will just say we did it in defense. Do the same to those in the tunnels."
"Copy that"
These were the last words the young man heard before deadly silence invaded his ears. He felt like he was in a totally silent and dark world.
Bang!
His body slammed against the ground.
The young man's name was Nathan. He was a university student.
He lived with only his mother because his father died a long time ago, before he even finished high school.
As a poor single-parent family, they suffered a lot, to the point that Nathan was unable to continue with higher education at university.
One day, his friend invited him to join the mafia. He initially rejected his friend's invitation. But due to his destitution, he decided to give it a try while lying to himself that he would stop when he got enough money to support his family and pursue a university education.
In the first month, he was able to pay fees and started studying business management at a popular university in the city.
This day, his mafia boss gave him and two others a mission to sell certain gangsters. Before the deal was done, cops emerged out of the blue.
His two colleagues were arrested on the spot, while he and the other three gangsters managed to escape. He hadn't anticipated that he would end up with a worse fate than his colleagues.
