Chap 1 Sprinting From Evil.

Chap 1 Sprinting From Evil.

In a dark and empty street, four men could be seen running alongside a range of office buildings. Their faces were drenched in sweat, and they looked exhausted enough to tell that they had been running for a long time.

Bang!

One man bulged into the door of a building and immediately dashed in.

"Get in quickly!"

The man yelled at his friends in an exhausted voice. His friends followed suit, their heavy breaths echoing in the empty corridor as they hurriedly made their way inside. The sound of their pounding footsteps reverberated through the building, amplifying the sense of urgency and fear that hung in the air.

All of them frantically dashed into the building.

"Remember to close the door."

Another man said this to the young man who was the last to enter. The young man obediently closed the door behind him and followed the others. As they entered, the dimly lit hallway revealed a maze of locked doors and flickering lights, adding to the eerie atmosphere.

By this time, the other three men had already dashed into another dark hallway and entered a room.

In just a few seconds, the young man managed to catch up with them. One man had kneeled close to a drainage hole cover.

The other men stood in front of him, keeping a close eye on him and the surroundings, especially the entrance to the room.

Above the kneeling man's head was a hanging lamp emitting dim light. The rays of light shone on the man's intimidating face. It had some scars! The young man couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as he took in the sight of the scars on the kneeling man's face. They seemed to tell a story of past battles and hardships.

"There's a hole here that leads to one of the underground tunnels in the city." The man said this as he yanked the drainage cover off the ground. A dark hole appeared. "The underground tunnel will get us out of this area and away from them."

The man didn't hesitate; he carefully plunged into the hole. Another man followed.

The remaining man and the young man instinctively turned their heads to the room's door when they heard a banging sound. Fear was clearly written on their faces.

"The-they're here! We need to hurry," the young man whispered, his voice trembling. They exchanged a quick glance before reluctantly descending into the darkness, their hearts pounding with adrenaline.

Some people preying on them had just pushed the door of the building open, and footsteps could be heard by the four men.

One man frantically lowered himself into the hole, leaving behind the young man. The footsteps were getting closer.

"Quickly close it."

One of the men in the hole yelled from deep down the tunnel, which surprised and astonished the remaining young man.

"Close? How about me?" He asked, not understanding what was going on. "I still have to get in."

"You ain't with us. You'll see what to do!"

Another man in the tunnel said it coldly as he slammed the cover of the tunnel, leaving the young man dumbfounded.

The abandoned young man had his eyes wide open in disbelief and was petrified. He hadn't anticipated that the men would abandon him at such a critical moment.

He regretted following them.

"Sh*t!"

He ruefully cursed as he stood up.

He turned his head only to see a burly man with a gun aiming at him. The burly man was a cop.

"Hands up and don't move; otherwise, I will shoot you!"

As soon as these words left the burly cop's mouth, the young man quickly obeyed. He helplessly raised his hands with a sigh.

He had no other option. Nevertheless, in the next moment...

Bang!

A chair was thrown toward the cop. Luckily, the latter reacted just in time. He shot the chair, and it fell to the floor.

At that moment, he felt pain in the hand that was holding a gun as an iron rod violently smashed it. The gun immediately threw itself from his hand and fell to the floor.

Before he could react, the young man had already swung the rod a second time. By this time, his target was the cop's face.

Bang!

"Arghh!"

The attack could be considered successful as it successfully smashed the cop's face, inflicting a dark red bruise.

The cop grimaced in pain and grabbed the rod before the young man could strike again. Using the other hand, he grabbed the young man's neck. He tightened his grip, strangling the young man.
