Awareness

I attacked confor, drinking the blood from his wound. I felt some sort of satisfaction and the urge to continue, and I sucked on his blood for a good five minutes until I came to my senses after that intense frenzy. I was at a loss for words. I sucked his blood in a frenzy like I was some sort of monster. I know now why I was feeling so bad I hadn't paid close enough attention to my reflection. I had fangs as well now looking inside my mouth at the nearby puddle because I was now a vampire who could only live off blood and why other food and drinks harmed me.

I apologized to Confor I was this close to draining him dry, but he didn't seem to care and even offered me more. I turned him down, I might be a vampire now, but I still have my human morality. I would rather die than drink human blood, and I told him that. He looked disappointed and left why wouldn't he, and I would attack him again for more blood. He best leaves me alone to die from starvation, and luckily this part of town was empty probably because it' was entirely in ruins from the civil war so no one would come here.

As the days went by, I lost more and more energy until after a week, I collapsed. I woke up when the sun was going down. How was I still alive, and why did I have more energy than before. Confor appeared with a jug of blood right next to me. He had forced fed me animal blood from the surrounding area, and I was disgusted. I told him off how humanoids shouldn't help Demonoid's. I was furious at him on how and why he could help a vampire, knowing that he would die for harboring me. I was shocked and horrified by my new body and should have died multiple times. I didn't want to succumb to my unique vampiric nature, and it's urges. He broke the taboo by feeding me blood, which is punishable by torture followed by death, or sometimes they skip the torture part and just kill them on the spot or soon afterward—all of this for someone as useless as me.

He then sighed and took a long breath. He said, "did you know my parents were not only neutral in the human war. But in the war against races itself. They wouldn't turn away a Beastkin or a Demonoid in need of help, and neither will I, he proclaimed," This took me to be by surprise. I was neutral in the human conflict but not in the war of the big three, and I chose the humanoid side without ever questioning it. Then I told him my view of things from a standpoint which most Humanoids to some degree had. He wasn't surprised to hear about my view of things, after hearing about my background earlier.

He was right. My form of neutral was still biased in the end. I was a hypocrite a pretender, but is it ok for me to give in to this new urge, especially after being human at one point for thirty years? I needed a reason to live to do that, and I'm not sure if I have one. I have a small inkling thanks to Confor's views, but is that enough to justify such a big difference to change my mind about drinking blood?

Even, after all, he said I still couldn't drink blood, I still couldn't stand the idea of it no matter how much I tried to change that mentality. I always felt like I couldn't live like this. As I contemplated every day, every so often, I would faint due to starvation. Confor kept on force-feeding me animal blood during these fainting spells. Until one day, I finally caved in after a month had passed. He would always disappear until I fainted. As he knew, I would attack him in a blood craving frenzy otherwise. I gave into that kid's stubbornness. He was my reason to live now after saving me from my ruined mansion.

In contrast, it was on the verge of collapsing and bringing me here. When I starved myself and ended up fainting, and he force-fed me animal blood every time, and I could no longer consider this kid to be crazy. I mean, he still was mad for helping me by risking his life. Still, he had the dedication to stay true to his beliefs even though I denied them until now. That was admirable and worthy of praise in itself.

During the day, I thought about my next plans, Confor, and I needed to leave this area. I heard there was a neutral zone for all species to live in harmony, we could live there, but how could we escape? I couldn't think of an answer that wouldn't put us in danger. One of us would die, and I wasn't willing to let Confor die for me. Confor was usually gone during the day. Which I later realized was finding food for himself. At the same time, killing small animals and draining them of their blood for me.

During the night, I would drink the blood that Confor got for me. Which he always left for me, a little distance away from me so he would remain safe from me. I was now focusing on the changes in my body while I drank the blood. I noticed my senses; we're getting sharper. Not enough to escape a hoard of humans yet though undetected. I needed more time for my five senses to be enhanced enough where we could act so that we could escape unnoticed. In the end, this was the only plan I came up with, and It would take a while for that to happen, and drinking animal blood only slightly helped me. I knew that any human blood would decrease the amount of time we needed to escape. By enhancing me faster than animal blood. Which Confor offered his blood a few times before giving up in that aspect, But, I still could only accept animal blood. I guess only that much of my new nature I was willing to take.

Meanwhile, a priest named Normad on his desk went through some papers of reports. He realized there was a sharp decrease in small animals, which was usually a good thing, especially when it came to rats. Still, even animals such as rabbits and birds we're missing. What was peculiar was that creatures such as dogs, cats, and even farm animals numbers were still average in figures according to the reports. According to those reports that ruled out wolves and any other predator species. Or any kind of bandit or crime syndicate group, This means it is the work of a Demonoid or Beastkin, and this was passive of them. They could be a spy, not trying to arouse suspicion. He couldn't rule that out. Even if it were a Beastkin or Demonoid were just scraping by to survive. Those nasty things we're not allowed to live here, let alone be alive in his own opinion. He could also use this as an opportunity to force the civilians to his side. It was using harboring a non-humanoid as an excuse, which would push most of them to side with the church, whether to join them out of fear or their own bias towards the other races as well. Meanwhile, this accomplishment would bolster his position in the church as well. It was a win-win situation.

So I decided to put a wanted poster out looking for anyone capturing small animals around town. Having the church broadcast it throughout the city. I was offering a vast bounty on anyone with any of said information about it. At last, something to move through the church's upper echelons by doing god's work.
