"So what do we do first?" Robert asked the voice.
"First, we choose the theme of your Dungeon," the voice said as she gave Robert a wide smile. "I'd prefer a forest theme with hidden graveyards for the first few floors. Maybe make them fire-themed if you want to."
"Theme?" Robert asked before a menu appeared right in front of them.
Theme:
Forest: A woodland area filled with verdant trees, deadly animals, and peaceful lakes. The forest holds as much natural beauty as it does monsters that feast on The Children's flesh. Decreases cost for Forest themed animals, monsters, and resources. Increases cost for animals, monsters, and resources not native to forests. Beings with a strong connection to forests gain a +2 to Stealth and Survival checks.
Cavern: A massive maw of stone and terror, caverns are host to anything from bandit hideouts to monster lairs. Often packed with traps and tricks to kill would be Children who seek wealth. Few have managed to escape such areas with all their bearings intact. But for those that do, quite a few tales of wealth and glory are spun of them. Though most ignore the rapid madness. Decreases costs for animals, monsters, and resources found in caverns. Increases costs for animals, monsters, and resources not native to Caverns. Beings with strong connections to caverns gain a +2 to Mineralogy and Sanity skill checks.
Abandoned City:...
From there, the themes infused each of themselves into Robert's eyes. Millions upon millions of ways to flavor their Dungeon to the exact right taste. There was everything a person could think of.
The classic Fire Dungeons and Water Dungeons were there, along with anything from Bird Dungeons to Indecent Toy Dungeons. Which just so happened to be right near several Dungeons with similar names. There was every type of theme you could imagine.
There was also plenty of themes that you couldn't as well. Theme's which the mind of any mortal couldn't imagine. But was still out there.
Such things were seen in the first few minutes of Roberts browsing, just how many Dungeon themes were there?
"About as many as there are Images, Ideas, Paths, and whatever else is there," the voice said as she floated upside down.
Wait, when had Robert started referring to the voice as she? What was a she, anyway? And how had she even known about Robert's question?
"All very good questions, you started referring to me as such a few minutes ago, a she is a biological role of certain species which usually look like me, and we can both hear each other thoughts," the voice said nonchalantly.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"Can you please stop calling me 'the voice' already? Call me Vocal or something?" The vo-Vocal said with a huff.
"Better."
"Okay, so how many of these themes are there? Vocal?" Robert asked.
"Anything you can imagine, plan out, picture, or think about. And infinitely more than you can. Themes are infinite, there are even themes about you and me. A few Dungeons go that way, but it gets really weird in them. So don't try that," Vocal said.
"Then what should I try?" Robert asked.
"I'd say go for Forests, Caverns, and Mushroom Clouds since they're my personal favorites. But you can choose whatever sounds more interesting to you."
"Should I be careful about the choices I make here?" Robert asked again. If there was any danger, they wanted to know.
"You should be careful about any choices you make. But yeah, certain parts of the theme of the first floors usually pop-up in all your others. But other than that, you don't have any restrictions."
Robert nodded before browsing the themes once more. Robert searched through the massive amount of themes they were given. Ultimately choosing their top three. The Mushroom Cloud one was first, it was an obvious choice considering Vocal liked it, and she had never led him astray before.
Though that was mainly due to the fact that she didn't have enough time to trick you.
The second and third choices were Drunk and Bear.
Mushroom Cloud: Massive clouds of these plants drift through the worlds of who knows what. But these areas still host life, from strange populations of midget creatures made of blue string. To massive goliaths of air and mushrooms. Life survives and thrives in these biomes. Decreases cost of animals, monsters, and resources found in mushroom clouds. Increases cost of animals, monsters, and resources not found in mushroom clouds. Beings with a strong connection to mushroom clouds gain a +2 to Shroomology and Shroom Cloud.
Drunk: The intoxication of alcohol is one of the few reprieves that are afforded to adults. But you lack the drink and go straight to the intoxication. Few hate you, but even fewer like you! Decreases animals, monsters, and resources found in drunk environments. Increases cost of animals, monsters, and resources not found in drunk environments. Beings with strong connections to drunk gain a +2 to Beer Crack and Drunkology.
Bear: The bear attacks, the bear strikes. The bear is behind you, the bear is you. Decreases cost of things that are Bear. Increases cost of things that are not Bear. Beings who are close to Bear gain +2 to Bearness and Being Bear.
All three choices were interesting, but each had its downsides. The Bear one was as weird and cryptic as one could get. So Robert wasn't going to choose that one till they knew more.
Robert had asked Vocal but she had said she didn't recognize the theme and to not pick it since they didn't know what it really did besides involve Bears.
Mushroom Cloud and Drunk were now the top choices. But Robert was leaning more towards the Mushroom Cloud one, they were nearly about to pick it when Vocal asked, "Did you choose anything else for the final top ten or five or seven hundred or something?"
"Yeah, Mushroom Cloud and Drunk. I'm thinking of picking Mushroom Cloud cause-"
"Pick Drunk," Vocal said.
"What? Why?! It doesn't seem useful at all!" Robert yelled.
"Pick Drunk," Vocal said, the way she said it inspiring fear into Robert's heart, or core? Diamond? Diamond it is.
Reluctantly, Robert picked Drunk.
Several things then happened, the theme window closed, and Robert felt almost all the power in their pond leave. Vocal let out a strange sound before crashing into the floor with a thunk.
And then she vanished.
Unsurprisingly, Robert screamed.
