Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Robert felt pain when they first woke up.

Pain. Pain. Pain.

The cascading wave of pain swept through every nook and cranny. Every piece and angle. It was everywhere inside Robert.

And then it wasn't. The pain Robert felt disappeared just as suddenly as it began.

Robert's 'vision' slowly returned. And they swept through the Dungeon.

More than a dozen bodies lay still around their home. Thousands of tiny notes of energy floating outward and lighting up the area.

The 'snake' as Vocal has called it was still alive. In fact, it was right next to Roberts Core. Panic almost immediately flared through Robert, the Dungeon feeling a wave of fear pass through it.

The snake didn't attack. In fact, it almost seemed worried for Robert. It was only then that Robert noticed the string of magic that flowed between them and the snake.

A velvet crimson red and as thick as a rope. Arcane sigils leaped out of it every second. Hitting the ground and dying off almost instantly, like sparks.

"Dear god, do you really have to fall unconscious all the time?" Vocal asked.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Roberts thoughts were interrupted when they heard their fairy speak, and Robert quickly turned toward her.

"It's not like I try to fall unconscious!" Robert shouted indignantly.

"Yeah right."

Robert felt annoyance at the fairy but decided not to continue the discussion any further. There were more important things after all.

"So what's with this?" Robert said.

"What's with what?" Vocal asked.

"This? Can you not see it?" Robert asked confused. Was the snake invisible?

"I don't know what you're talking about, is it about your Guardian?" She asked, confusion dripping in her voice.

"Is my Guardian the snake?" Robert asked.

"Yeah."

"Than yes."

Vocal sighed, "At least you're asking about things relevant to us. That snake defended our home, you dungeon, and held an emotional connection to it. So a bond was forged," Vocal explained.

"But how was it made?" Robert asked.

"Getting there, Guardians can only be created when a being feels strongly in a positive aspect towards the Dungeon, creating the building blocks of the bond. A would-be Guardian then kills an enemy equal or higher than itself to fully create the bond. The blood of the sacrifice deciding how the bond will affect both the Guardian and the Dungeon."

"Wait, Dungeon?!" Robert exclaimed.

"Don't worry, that'll only happen much later in you development. So don't worry about it," Vocal said in a soothing tone, her voice calming Robert down.

Robert slowly sighed, Vocals voice producing a calming effect on them.

"So what now Vocal?" Robert asked.

"I don't really know Robert. But I think we should check your status."

"Status?" Robert asked with interest.

"It's the thing you opened up that had all the numbers and stuff. Not sure you remember it, new born Dungeons always forget a lot of stuff, plus you haven't used it in a while," Vocal told Robert.

"Actually I do remember it. Just give me a minute."

With a sigh Robert opened their menu.
