Chapter 17: Crows Scavenges Death(2)

Bang!

A gunshot was heard by countless people. They looked at the direction where the gunshot was before hearing it again. This time, they entered their houses and locked their doors, windows and such.

They knew that a Hunter was fighting and if they were to watch, then they might not only help the hunter, they might jeopardize his Hunt and hurt the citizens of Arkvem because of the failure of his hunt.

The citizens knew that if they went and watch the fight, it would've been a good way to show that Hunters are still useful, yet if they do show up at the scene, they would not only be a victim, there was a chance that the Hunter would kill them just to save them from madness.

So, they stayed still inside their houses to not disturb the fight.

Meanwhile…

The crow masked woman crouched down and took out a knife that she got from the corpse that was bleeding out somewhat purple blood. Her eyes squinted as blood flowed out from the wound.

"That's weird. I swore that the color of blood is red…. Why does this person have purple?"

She had some suspicions about the man that the First Hunter had sent her to hunt, he couldn't have just sent her to hunt some weak person. This guy might be someone strong after all.

'Probably from the noble side… There is also a high chance that this guy is from the Crown Faction but I doubt it…'

Her eyes narrowed but continued on.

She needed information from someone, information about the guy she was going to assassinate. This mansion was one of the many bases that the guy had, and from the information she got, this was the only base that he rarely visited yet it was always bustling with people.

This fact itself proved that something must be going on inside the mansion for it to be filled with active people going in and out.

Even if she was wrong, with so many of his men here, she would get the information she much needed and would have the confidence to assassinate a single man who might be a traitor to the entire Arkvem City.

She swiftly hid the body after thinking for a few moments in peace before rushing inside, the gunshots must have already been heard by the people inside yet no guards or something went to check and investigate the source of the sound.

She thought that they were preparing an ambush on her but only after looking every nook and cranny of the mansion, she couldn't find a single living thing, much less a human being.

Her eyes narrowed and she couldn't get the feeling of something was going on, her instincts were already telling her that something was wrong.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

But she didn't know why something was wrong. Her instincts were telling her, yes, but she doesn't know why something is wrong. She had searched everywhere besides the basement, she didn't find any explosives or traps within the building and she knew that the person who did this didn't plan on using explosives, lest they get the Crown's attention on them.

She knew that these people didn't dare to get recognized nor be seen from their actions of desperately hiding their appearance. Even the butler that she had killed was wearing a mask which later was destroyed by her.

The crow masked woman had her eyes narrowed and looked around in confusion.

The warning signals inside her head was ringing like crazy, as if something bad was going to happen.

Chk.

She took out her shotgun and aimed it everywhere before hearing a soft mumble coming from the darkness of the master bedroom.

Just a few dozen meters away from her.

She aimed her shotgun towards the door and waited for the mumble to either stop or change tones.

Scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch....

Yet, a few moments passed as the mumbles became louder and louder, something scratching the walls could be heard while countless whispers of a name of someone was constantly being repeated by the being that was mumbling behind the door of the master bedroom.

Her body was already screaming to kill the being hiding behind the door.

The scratching and mumbles were endless, constantly repeating within her mind as she tried to sooth herself by softly reciting a prayer from the scripture. She then ran towards the door and kicked it open.

Revealing….

Nothing.

Nothing at all.

She swiftly took a look inside the room and found nothing at all, but the scratch marks on the walls were evidence that something was here before.

The scratch marks seemed endless, it overlapped against each other yet she could clearly see them, as if the other scratch marks didn't erase a part of them.

From all the clues she gathered until now, she knew that she was up against Monsters, not beasts. If it was a beast then it couldn't have the intelligence to hide or try to lure her inside this room-

Her eyes then shot towards the door in a flash and found it already closed.

She swiftly tried to open the door yet it wouldn't move, she even tried to shoot the doorknob open yet the door suddenly healed itself.

Like magic.

She cleared her throat with a gulp of her saliva as she looked around warily.

She couldn't believe that she was tricked into being lured into this room. Such a rookie mistake but it had been some time when she had hunted a human being after all, her skills and intuition must've rotted a bit.

Still, looking around, she found no windows whatsoever. Even the other rooms had no windows, hell, even the hallways of the mansion didn't have any windows with them yet outside, she could clearly see a window and could even look through inside.

All the more reason to believe that she was up against a Monster, one with high intelligence at that. It probably had all of its memories intact.

The reason she knew that she was up against monsters was because of common sense.

Monsters, unlike beasts, have the ability to manipulate magic out of thin air. Not the magic tricks that magicians use but magic that could destroy an entire building with one fireball or something. Monsters are known for their ability to control the natural elements of the world and there were cases that Monsters had warped space and created their own small world.

Anyone lured or trapped within the world had two ways of escaping.

One is to find the Monster and kill it before waiting for the space to disappear by itself. This method will probably take weeks to complete and most of that time was used on trying to find the Monster who created the space.

The other way was just to kill yourself. You technically escaped the small world that trapped you within if you died.

The crow masked woman clenched her fist and had already come up with many plans of actions.

The eye sockets of the crow mask shone in chilling purple light.
