Information 1: Job and Quest Descriptions On!

Strolling through the town gate, Soren was excited to finally start her journey.  As she was passing by, an older NPC male called out to her.

"Hey missy, come on over here! I have a job for you."

Surprised getting offered a quest was so easily, Soren approached.

"Missy I see you have managed to tame one of those cranky Temple Cats, you must have done something extraordinary!"

Somewhat puzzled, Soren could only quietly listen,  not having the guts to correct the misconception.

"Since you managed to Tame such a wonderful beast, I was hoping you would be able to take care of a Pest problem around town"

Snapping out of her reverie, Soren experienced a rush of excitement for her very first quest.

"Yes!  I would love to kill pests for the town!"

"Quest Accepted: Investigate the Pest Problem for the Mayor.  Quest Rank: Unique E"

Soren's eyes widened in surprise, a unique quest!  That meant there were certain requirements to be met before the quest could be offered.

Soren thought back to her research after Dream Online was first announced:

There are three classes of quests, and 5 ranks E (lowest) through A (highest).  The Quest Classes beside Unique are ranked: Common, which anyone can take as long as they can find them, some repeatable; and Dream class, which is limited to the related Job.

When a user starts, they pick a starting job.  The starting options are Warrior, Light Mage, Dark Mage, Tamer, and Archer.

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

When she first read about the game, she was confused about the lack of the sneak type of character.  As she researched further, she found the Job Tree.  Basically, if a class is played a certain way, it can generate the Dream Job specializing that play style.

*more details on Job Tree and more common branches in later chapter*

After further investigation, she discovered the main difference in jobs are the weapon specializations and growth rates.

Warriors gain growth bonuses to melee weapons and heavy armor, and reduced growth to ranged weapons and learning magic.

Archers have growth bonuses to ranged weapons and light armor, reduced growth rate to learning magic and melee weapons.

Light Mages gain growth to light, healing, and buff spells with reduced growth to armor and weapons.  Light Mages are not able to use Dark Magic at all, and have a neutral growth rate for Summoning magic.

Dark Mages have increased growth rate to elemental spells (except light), hex spells (debuffs), and curses (hp stealing).  They have reduced growth to armor and weapons, and are not able to use Light Magic.  They also have neutral growth for summoning magic.

Tamers can learn healing Magic and buffing magic if classified as AOE (area of effect), and gain a growth bonus to those spells.  Tamers do not have a weapon equipment limitation, but gain no growth bonus.  The only bonus to weapon growth that Tamers receive is if that weapon has a "Performance" attribute.

When tested during Beta, players unanimously agreed the only use Tamers had, was when they turned into Bards or Dancers for specialized AOE support.  While some had tried being a Tamer that fight with their pets, the weapon growth was not satisfying, and they found themselves weak compared to their warrior counterparts.  When performance weapons were found, they aided in the taming process with impressive displays.  The ones besides Instruments and Ceremonial Blades were too obscure for users to attempt learning them.

Thus is the story of how actual animal Tamers faded into obscurity, unless the user wanted to farm interesting pets to sell to other players. Thanks Beta (sarcasm).

The Mayor NPC stared at the young fairy he granted the quest to. . . She'd been standing in front of him with a glazed look in her eyes for a few minutes now. . . Maybe he was too rash in making the request.

"uh. . . Did you need directions to the infestation?"

Dropping Maneki in surprise, Soren snapped out of her train of thought regarding jobs and stammered a confirmation.

"Y...Yes!  Please tell me where to go!"

"You'll find it in the Tavern's basement, see Olga for more details."

"Thank you, bye!"  Soren rushed off before she could embarrass herself further.

*slow chapter, but hopefully everyone enjoyed more information on the starting jobs, I'm excited to go into details in the actual job tree later*
