Although Nedoth thought that he wouldn't be able to drift into sleep when he came back, after about an hour of laying in bed, he managed to fade into the dreamlands.
Now he woke up at six in the morning because of Orson, he wasn't exactly the quietest human alive. He only slept for five hours, so he felt horrible.
Nedoth once again was forced to experience why being a mortal absolutely sucked. His desire to return to his lost immortality strengthened once again.
He mentally cursed the masked figure for forcing him into being a pathetic life form.
Tormenting mortals was great, but being one? Not so much.
He crawled out of his bed with much difficulty. He felt like a wet rag.
As he did so, he heard the voice of Orson which was filled with anger "Make me something to eat."
As much as Nedoth wanted to refuse making anything for this rat, he needed to be incredibly polite now more than ever and do anything his 'master' required.
Though it was very tempting to punch into Orson's face, he needed to restrain himself. His true revenge would come later. If he hurt him now, he wouldn't be able to convince him to sell his disgusting soul later.
In due time he would have his vengeance, oh and how sweet it would be.
"Of course my lord."
He went and opened the magically powered refrigerator. It was a large and sturdy wooden box. When you opened the fridge however, the inside was permeated with ice and air glyphs. Inside, an icy wind blew the entire time. Yet what was weird, the wind wasn't able to be felt. Only the cold air could be felt.
The blowing wind was only able able to be heard. The only downside was that the wind carried the stench of various ingredients with it when someone opened the refrigerator, so it wasn't exactly the most pleasant experience when someone opened it, yet it did it's job of keeping food fresh and cold perfectly and that was what was most important.
Nedoth took out some animal meat.
He cut the meat into slices. Next he went to the grill and put the meat slices onto the metal rods of the grill. He pushed a button on the side of the grill and suddenly under the metal rods, a fire started to burn.
After a few minutes, the flesh was ready to be eaten. Nedoth took out two plates and cutlery.
Now that the food was ready, the two sat down onto a table and Orson asked with contempt filling his eyes "That is all? Meat? Not even a sauce with it?"
Nedoth didn't understand the question. Why did Orson need sauce? What was the point? The meat would remove their hunger, so why did he need more?
Orson saw Nedoth's confusion in his eyes and nearly exploded in rage. Was he babysitting a child right now?!
The second day at the academy and his servant disappears without a trace and the one time that he actually is there, he cooks him meat without even giving him sauce?!
Orson supressed his rage and went to the refridgerator and took out his favorite sauce.
Even after Orson put down the sauce on the table, Nedoth didn't even ask whether he could have some of it.
Nedoth gulped down his flesh with complete indifference as fast as possible. Orson didn't understand it. Normally, people would enjoy eating at least somewhat.
It also wasn't as if the flesh was disgusting or anything like that. It certainly wasn't high class meat, that's for sure but it also wasn't cheap either.
Orson shook off his useless thoughts and asked a much more substantial question. He narrowed his eyes and said "Where were you yesterday the entire day?"
Nedoth stopped eating and smiled. He knew that this was his moment to shine.
"I was serving you my lord." he calmly answered.
Rage appeared within Orson's eyes. "You say served me?! You were the entire day absent even when I needed you!"
"My lord, I was trying to find ways to increase your personal power. That is what you want most, right?"

Orson scoffed. As if his useless servant even knew how to become more powerful himself. "And how exactly did being absent from your duties help you in increasing my power?"
"Let this be my wonderful little secret. But I have indeed found how to increase your personal power. And not even by a little. With the power that I have uncovered, you will be able to surpass even our teachers at our school!"
"Oh yeah? And it would be for free too, huh?" Orson raised an eyebrow, not believing his servant at all.
"Free? My lord, nothing is for free in this world. But it is a pathetic price in comparison for what you would get." Nedoth said with confidence in his voice.
"So what would that price be?"
Upon Nedoth's lips, a gentle smile appeared. "Why, your soul of course."
Before Orson could shout at him, Nedoth continued. "My lord, this price is truly trivial for what you get. Afterall, what is the soul really? We can't even see it! How do we even know, if it exists at all? It doesn't! Those disgusting priests just want us to believe that the soul and the afterlife exists to scare us!"
"It takes such intelligent people like us to realize this truth! And my lord, you are the smartest and most intelligent person in the whole kingdom! You also realize this truth correct?!"
Although Orson didn't believe Nedoth, he couldn't say that his servant wasn't correct, for that would mean to relinquish his pride. He truly thought that he was very smart. His pride didn't allow him to say 'no'.
He coughed and said "T-that's right."
Nedoth's smile widened. "So you do know, my lord! I have found people that would give you power just because they think you sell them your 'soul'. They serve 'higher beings' that they think that exist! They are fools, every single one of them! As if these beings even exist! Everybody knows that humans are the most intelligent, most perfect life forms that exist!"
"I was truly fortunate to be born of half human blood! Although I have lowly elven blood within me, I am still not denied the absolute pleasure of being a human!"
Orson slowly nodded and said "That's right. I always thought that you hated being a human, what changed it?"
"Oh! My lord you are mistaken! I was simply trying to hide my embarassment of my mother being a despicable elf. I apologize sincerely!" Nedoth said as he went off his chair and kneeled before his lord on the floor.
Orson became uncomfortable at this sudden brashness. Maybe his servant was really telling the truth?
"So, what powers would I get if I sell my 'soul'?" Orson hesitantly asked. He was still not really on board with the whole souls don't exist thing.
"Whatever powers you desire! Maybe controlling hundreds of pawns with magic? Breathing extremely hot fire to incinerate foolish foes? Or maybe you would desire to increase the rank of your noble house?"
The last words catched Orson's attention. Increasing his families standing was something he always wanted. He wanted to make his ancestors and his father proud.
"I can increase my house's standing, if I do that?" Orson asked with his eyes shining.
"Of course, my lord. Although those fools actually think that devils exist, they are very useful fools. They have countless connections to powerful nobles or maybe even the royalty of this kingdom itself."
Not unexpectedly, Nedoth lied his ass off. He had not the foggiest idea whether the cult actually had connections to even one noble, not even speaking of royalty.
"R-royalty?" the greed within Orson bursted out, making his skepticism and caution disappear.
"That's right my lord. And with a lot of skill, which you most certainly possess and a bit of luck, you might even become the monarch of this whole kingdom in due time! And that is with just paying with your soul that doesn't even exist! That's a great deal, isn't it?!"
"You really think so?"
"Without a doubt my lord!" Nedoth answered with enthusiasm.
Orson coughed and asked "So where can I gain this opportunity or power?"
"My lord, after our lessons, I will lead you to where we can find those idiots. Of course, we could also go now, if you want?"
Orson shook his head "No, after the lessons is fine."
"However you wish my lord." Nedoth made a bow before his human master.
The two finished eating and walked out of their room with a good mood. They went to their class together.
When they entered, the students were giving Nedoth a strange look, which somewhat confused him but he didn't think further upon it.
The lessons soon started and Lifra Havenheart, their teacher, came in.
She clapped into her hands and exclaimed "We will begin now, return to your seats."
"Since your seniors showed you what you can do through magic yesterday, today we will begin our real education."
"Everyone of you has an attunement to a certain type of magic. Some of you are talented in pyromancy, others in cryomancy and so on. From this day forth, you will be assigned to different classes. These classes are, as might be expected, determined through the school of magic that they teach. Does everyone still know what type of magic they are attuned to?" Havenheart explained.
Everyone nodded. How could they forget what their destiny in magecraft was?
"Wonderful." Havenheart said as she activated an information displaying glyph. In the air instructions appeared on where to find the classes.
Nedoth searched a while for classes that he could take and found only three. The Auroramancy class, the Controlmancy class and Umbramancy class.
He could throw Auroramancy out of the window, he didn't need it. He also didn't have too much of a need for Controlmancy at the moment, but Umbramancy was something he wanted to use anyway. The class for it was on the third floor. Not that far away from Director Bavred's office actually.
When everybody found the class they were looking for, Havenheart exclaimed "Now that you know where to go, you may leave now for your new class. If you have any more questions, ask away."
The students stood up and hurried to their new classes. No one could hold in their excitement except Nedoth, who casually walked out of the classroom.
Just as he exited, Havenheart said "Nedoth. Are you going to visit the director now?"
"I think I'll take the Umbramancy class first. I don't want to miss the basics."
Lifra nodded and said "That's a good idea. You can always learn Necromancy later."
Nedoth turned to the door and while he already walked out he said his goodbyes "See you."
