Dragonfly

It all begins with a soft summer breeze rustling the leaves of the trees surrounding the cottage. Didier and Mimmi, still dressed in their pajamas, step out onto the veranda and take in the breathtaking view of the sparkling lake beneath them. The sky is a perfect shade of blue, and the air is filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers. As they stand there, lost in each other's eyes, a large dragonfly buzzes past, its iridescent wings catching the sunlight. They smile at each other, feeling an intense connection that they can't quite explain. "Did you see that dragonfly, Mimmi?" Didier asks, breaking the silence. "It was beautiful."

"Yes, it was," she says "Dragonflies always make me think of summer. Didier, have you ever thought about going on a trip together? Like a road trip or something? We could explore new places, maybe even find a secret beach somewhere."

"That sounds like fun! I've never been on a road trip before. Where would you want to go? We could start by asking my dad for permission to use his car."

"Oh, I don't know," she says. "Anywhere really. We could look up places on the Internet and see what interests us both. Maybe we could even camp out under the stars."

"Camping sounds awesome! I've always wanted to try that. And we can make it a special trip, just the two of us. We can plan it together, pick out the best spots, and make sure we have the best time ever."

"That sounds perfect, Didier. We could even bring a map and mark down all the places we want to visit along the way. It'll be like our own adventure!"

Didier leans in closer to Mimmi, his eyes twinkling with excitement. He takes in a deep breath of fresh air, enjoying the way it feels against his skin. He can't help but feel grateful for this moment, standing here with Mimmi, discussing the possibility of sharing more adventures together. A small, happy smile spreads across his lips as he waits for her response.

"I think it's a great idea," he says happily. "We should start planning right now. We can ask my dad tomorrow, and then we can start looking up places to visit."

He takes out his phone and opens a new tab in the browser, starting to search for camping sites and road trip ideas. Mimmi sits down beside him, her hand finding its way into his, their fingers lacing together as they plan their perfect summer getaway together. The dragonfly reappears, dancing through the air between them, a symbol of the freedom and adventure they both long for. As they continue to discuss their dream trip, the sun begins to rise higher in the sky, casting a warm golden light over the cottage and the lake beyond, promising a day full of possibilities and new discoveries.

"This one looks nice, what do you think?" he asks, showing her a campground, they found online.

She nods, her eyes scanning over the photo. "That one looks really nice. We could also check out that one over there, it has a lake for swimming." She scrolls through the page, pointing at different features they might enjoy. "And look, they have cabins too, in case we get tired of sleeping in a tent."

"Cabins sound nice, but I'm up for the challenge of sleeping in a tent. We can always go to a hotel if we get too tired, though."

"I'm sure we'll be fine. I think it'll be fun to sleep under the stars. Plus, it'll be more of an adventure that way."

The more they discuss their trip, the more excited they become. They spend hours researching different places to visit, road trip routes, and camping spots. They even find a few secret beaches that are only accessible by boat or a long hike through the woods. As they continue planning their adventure, they begin to dream about all the memories they'll make together.

They take a swim together in the beautiful lake near the cottage, enjoying the warm sun on their skin. After drying off, they lay out on towels, their bodies pressed together as they nap in the sun. When they wake up, they decide to go for a walk along the shore, collecting seashells and talking about how much fun their trip will be. The dragonflies dance around them, their wings casting tiny shadows across their faces.

As the afternoon wears on, Didier decides it's time to head home for lunch. He helps Mimmi gather her things and they walk back to his car. The sun is warm on their skin as they drive through the countryside, enjoying the scenery.

He drops Mimmi off at her home. "Okay, I'll call you later," he says. "Have fun with your family. And remember, we still must ask my dad about taking me on this trip!"

"Thank you for a lovely day, Didier. I'll see you later, okay? Enjoy your lunch with your family. And remember, I'm looking forward to our adventure!"

As he drives back to his family's house, he can't help but smile, thinking about how much fun he had with her today. He can't wait to see her again.

Mimmi eats lunch with her family, feeling a little nervous about telling them about the possibility of going on a road trip with Didier. Her parents are supportive, but they also want her to be safe and responsible. After lunch, she finds her mother in the kitchen, helping her clean up.

Didier ate with his family as well, enjoying his lunch. He's excited to talk to his dad about the trip and hopes he'll be supportive. After lunch, he helps his mom with the dishes, chatting about his day with Mimmi.

Pete is 19 years old and has a crush on Mimmi, he is a jealous bitter young man who hates it when she has fun with someone else. He is currently working at a local garage.

As the afternoon wears on, Mimmi decides it's time to broach the subject with her parents. She finds her father in his studies, working on his computer. "Daddy, can I talk to you about something?" she asks, hesitantly.

Daddy looks up from his work, his brow furrowed in concern. "Of course, sweetheart. What's on your mind?"

"Well, Didier and I were talking about going on a road trip together. We were thinking maybe in a couple of weeks when we have some time off from school."

Mimmi's father raises an eyebrow, clearly surprised by this news. He leans back in his chair and steeples his fingers, considering her words carefully. "I see," he says slowly. "And where would you be going on this trip?"

"We'd like to see the coast, maybe visit some national parks and state forests. We'd be sleeping in a tent, so it would be pretty low-key and affordable."

Her dad nods, still looking thoughtful. "Well," he says, "that does sound like a nice adventure. I trust you've discussed this with your mother, and that you've thought about the safety aspects of traveling with a young man."

"Yes, Daddy. We've talked about everything. And I promise to be careful."

Mimmi's mother, Ingrid, enters the room at this moment, hearing the last part of their conversation. She smiles warmly at Mimmi. "You'll be fine, sweetheart. Just make sure you have fun, but stay safe."

Later that evening, Didier and Mimmi meet again to have dinner together. They're both nervous about how their parents will react to the news of their road trip plans. They decide to take a walk around the neighborhood after dinner, enjoying the cool night air and talking about their hopes for the trip.

Pete works in the garage on his Ford Mustang which he bought cheaply and is the object of renovation. He tries to start the car and it starts without problems; he smiles contentedly that he got the car to start. As he sits there in the car contentedly, he suddenly sees Mimmi walking hand in hand and looking ecstatically in love with Didier. Pete seethes with jealous rage.

"You two are going to regret this, you know. Just wait and see," he mutters angrily to himself.

He drives his Mustang slowly out of the garage and follows the loving couple from a distance, waiting for the right moment to strike.

"Hey, Mimmi. You know," Didier says. "I was thinking about our trip...I was wondering if we should see if we can find a bigger car, maybe something like a convertible or an SUV. That way, we could fit all our stuff and have more room to stretch out on the trip. What do you think?"

Just when Mimmi is about to answer him. Pete puts the pedal to full throttle and the Mustang accelerates with tires smoking and Pete steers his car right into Didier and Mimmi. Didier sees the car coming towards them, and at the last moment, he manages to push Mimmi aside before he is hit brutally hard by the car. Didier is thrown over fifteen feet through the air before landing head-first on the asphalt.

Pete jumps out of his car, looks at Didier lying on the ground motionless, and then turns to Mimmi. His eyes are wide with anger and jealousy. "You bitch! You're mine, and you always will be!" He charges at her, fists clenched, intent on teaching her a lesson she'll never forget. Mimmi backs away in fear, tripping over a rock and falling to the ground. Pete is upon her in an instant, pinning her down and punching her repeatedly. She cries out in pain and tries to fight back, but he's too strong. Just then, a figure emerges from the shadows. It's Didier's older brother, furious with what he's witnessing. He rushes towards Pete and tackles him off from Mimmi. The two men begin to fight viciously, punching and kicking each other in the streets. The neighbors come out of their houses, shocked and horrified by the scene before them. The police sirens are quickly approaching.

Didier lies lifeless in the street and Mimmi screams in horror and despair over his dead body. A dragonfly lays next to his body..also dead.
