Chapter 1 - Do Business

Ooh, another one.

The dragon lifts his hind legs, and begins to push, squeeze, squeeze, plop.

Out popped a steel broadsword.

The dragon raises his brow, hmm, I see little one, you wish to follow your little sister.

The dragon lets out a sigh and places the broadsword with the silver dagger with ruby hilt.

Anyways, the dragon calls out, “Bernard, come here.” He says.

A furry walrus man walks into the chamber, “Yes, sir.” He says.

The dragon huffs out a puff of smoke. “Start letting them in.” He says.

Bernard walks to the cavern entrance and opens the velvet gate, “Slowly, slowly now. There’ll be enough time for business later.” He says, allowing the merchants and heroes through.

Alucard the forest elf walks into the cave, breaths in the soft smell of sulfur and smiles.

Reginald, the Sapphire Warrior, walks in and looks up at the high ceiling. “Will it be enough…” He asks.

Celina the druid enchantress walks in, gaze focused forward. “Will there be a trace of him, in here?” She asks, her mood solemn.

Bernard, the walrus man, leads them forward. “This way, good heroes. Oh, ah-hum, and of course the merchants. Straight from the source, I always say. Haha!” He says with a chuckle.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“I’ll take first pick.” Kublah Kahn, the mountain merchant says with a smile. “A dragon, hmm, I wonder if he lives up to the name.” He says, amused.

Jarome Assal, the desert healing master walks forward, greeted by emerald and ruby lights and the glistening of gold. He smiles. “He can't be richer than me.” He says, satisfied.

A man in a black suit and sunglasses enters, the city merchant of the East, Hikaru. “Can I sneak it in, this time?” He wonders.

The cavern opened up, and the dragon was there to greet them. “Welcome guests. 6 of you? That’s not right, there should be seven.” He says, huffing a puff of smoke in displeasure.

The dragon’s shadow elongates and plops out of the ground, turning into a black masked man in black and white robes.

The dragon smiles. “Ah, Night Warden, you are here.” He says, satisfied.

Jarome Assel frowns, “Respect for his elders? I doubt it.” He says, not amused.

“Just here to watch the show.” The Night Warden says.

Reginald the Sapphire Warrior walks around, when a ruby light catches his eye. “Say, Dragon. How much for the silver dagger?” He asks.

The dragon looks over. “Hmm. Not for sale.” He says, puffing out a cloud of smoke.

Reginald frowns. “Then how about the steel broadsword? I could use a good sword.” He asks

The dragon raises a brow, “Hmm, that’s no ordinary steel. Damascus, are you interested?” He asks.

Reginald looks at the sword and examines it. It didn’t look that great. “I’ll think about it.” He says, before looking at the silver dagger with ruby hilt once more. “Are you sure the silver dagger is not for sale? It really is quite pretty, the perfect gift for a lady.” He says.

The dragon raises a brow, his interest piqued. “You can have the dagger, but you must buy the broadsword, as well.” He says, hoping to entice the man.

The ruby on the hilt begins to shine in Reginald’s eye. He smiles. “I’ll take it. How much?” He asks.

The dragon smiles. “Six thousand four hundred gold. And your emerald pendant, looks quite pretty. Would you part with it for a discount?” He asks.

Reginald frowns. “Just take the gold, Dragon.” He says, throwing a bag of gold into the treasure pile. “There’s an extra 500 in there for you.” He says.

The dragon puffs out a cloud of smoke. “A man who knows how to do business.” He says amused.

As the heroes and merchants explore the cavern for treasure, the dragon’s mind began to drift. Slowly his eyes closed, huffing and puffing clouds of relaxing smoke.

How did the dragon have so much treasure? From stealing, from pillaging, and village raiding? No, it was not any of this.

Before living as a dragon, he was once a mighty cultivator, he had traveled across the 9 realms, conquered when he could, ate fruit whenever possible, and drunk many celebratory mouthfuls of wine.

But eventually, he reincarnated. By this time, as a cultivator, he was quite familiar with fishing in the primordial soup. But he could only capture their spirit, never their form.

When he became a dragon, he discovered, to his great surprise, that dragons had malformed god organs.

If this world had a hierarchy, as a dragon, he would be placed just beneath the gods.

As a being with god organs, many spirits from the primordial soup began to seek him out, yearning to be given form.

Thus, over the years, the dragon had produced many treasures.

But he did not wish to horde this wealth. He was a cultivator at heart, and he wished to see art move forward. Thus, he became a Dragon Merchant.
