Correspondence between Beneson Brocoli Limited and Sword, Board and Song™ from the 1st of Pompluy to the 6th of that same month, 2103.

Hi there,

We understand that you are open to running advertisements in your current game? Our investors are very interested in this process. We have read your special rules for how advertisement is to work, and we are up for the challenge.

Respectfully,

Tanner

Greetings Tanner,

What do you have in mind?

Hi Bob,

So what we were thinking is that as part of player character creation, players could opt out of the regular background and random stat generation and receive a Beneson Broccoli Limited branded character with fixed 10 strength, 10 speed and 10 voice. Further, if they bought Beneson Broccoli Limited imitation cans in game and devoured them, they could have a 30% boost per can, up to 300% (10 cans required) for 2 minutes.

Respectfully,

Tanner.

P.S. See the attached document for proposed valuation of this service.

Greetings Tanner,

That is a very interesting sum being offered. My superiors are… difficult, but while they have been badgered into generally agreeing with the advertisement as suggested, they want to be clear that these player-characters will not be able to advance into the older server-worlds. To do otherwise they insist would be a breaking of promises to paying customers, a thought my superiors will absolutely not tolerate.

Hi Bob,

We were hoping that you would not enforce that, as those worlds seem prime advertising space for a company producing such quality foods as my own, but we will respectfully accept this limitation. How soon could we expect to see the implementation of our upcoming partnership, as we wish do some other advertising to hype up our loyal customers.

Respectfully,

Tanner.

Greetings Tanner,

Thank you for respecting my superiors’ wishes. We have consulted the imagery your design team has sent over and the option should become available on the 7th of this month with the first patch.

Hi Again Bob,

My investors have one further request which they are extremely interested in implementing. See attachment for that implantation and the other attachment for the increased payment, should you choose to implement this suggestion.

Respectfully,

Tanner.

Jake. 8th of Pompluy.

Time had passed pretty well. Jake had not risked his character by traveling without a party towards any of the areas that the in-game characters had declared risky. Instead he had worked with clearing out a nearby glade of Chaotic Gophers and sat through a few of the in-game sermons.

That was kind of weird. They weren’t long and they did give the player a very minor boost to their Discipline stat, but the main reason to go was that was where you could learn a lot of early game guidance. The priest would give one statement about lawful actions and three general tips. There was some repetition, but it wasn’t done through the same dialogue and there was generally a story at the end. Jake liked that.

Now was the first day that he and his party could group up again. He had talked to a few school acquittances, but most of them said they were already committed to other groups or that they had started in a different region.

So, Jake was excited to work with his team again and naturally logged on two hours early. It wasn’t like he had anything extra to do today and there might be some preparation.

As he moved his character towards the back of the town he was surprised to see a few Camper player characters building a road.

Coming up to them he asked, “Where is that road going?”

“According to the priest, there is an abandoned copper mine some distance that way. We usually role-play as dwarfs and miners and it would be nice to avoid the poor and prospecting stage for a while, so we are taking possession. A few of our stabby, stabby friends are going to go make sure no goblins or such like are holding on to it.”

Jake nodded and watched. Most of the player-characters involved were carrying supplies to a pile, turning around and immediately walking off to get another. Another few with scythes were off in the distance cutting grass, while another with an axe was clearing small shrubbery. The group Jake was speaking to were shoveling quite deeply and behind them three more were mixing in a layer of gravel. Bricks and cement bags waited nearby and the whole thing was pretty impressive.

“Whose in charge?”

“I guess I am?” The man said as his character quickly shoveled bunches of earth out of the way.

“How did you get everybody to agree on this so quickly?” Jake asked as he watched the roadway simply push forward.

“A lot of people were bored and tired of looking for gold by themselves. Just occurred to me to ask the priest if he knew anything about the topic and he did. So I gathered up those who wanted to come, offered them shares and off we go. Could you move, we are getting close to shoveling there.”

Jake quickly angled out of the route of the projected road. It was impressive. The characters would not be earning much Experience through this process, but what they did earn and the future share values were also a big deal.

“See you around David…Oh your a Morgan too! That’s funny, most of my guys are Morgans. Funny how that worked,” the player character said absently.

Jake received a friend request from a “Keneth Landsman.” He hit accept and after a wave he left.

He thought they had been having quite a bit of fun. It was fun to essentially be able to terraform the planet to a goal and that was a classic part of the SBS server-worlds. He had spent a lot of time watching people from the Camper side of the community showing their building projects and industries. Jake was content with his role, though he needed to gain some experience and level up again.

He had set his eye on a sword mentioned in one of the many wikis he had been trawling. The stats were mostly unimpressive, except that on a spoken command by its wielder (an important caveat) it would light up with healing light. The light would heal any living thing, so he couldn’t very well leave it on all the time, but it also caused a minor bit of damage to reanimated bodies, so there was that. It was really expensive, but the smith who made them was only three towns away and there was a road they could follow to get there.

He received a buzz on his phone and after checking it, he sighed. They were still running late. So he would need to do something else.

He found the arena and began practicing his sword and shield work on the training targets. This couldn’t improve his physical stats any, but it could improve his sword’s damage and his actual coordination for these controls. That might not be good if his character’s speed changed drastically, but for now he would enjoy the benefits.

After two and a half hours of grinding through the levels, he got another text saying that they were signing in, but John wanted to visit the temple briefly to confirm something. Jake, somewhat frustrated with this, told them to meet him at the training arena, as he was near a progression point.

With a flurry of sparks, the skill tab shifted from the parchment color of the background to a coppery color as it leveled up to level 25, and a pop up said, “New Title Unlocked!”

Jake smiled at that and read through the title.

Early Sweat, Early Medals.

As one of the first 100 to earn a copper ranked martial skill in the arena, your attack speed with the weapon type used is increased by 5%.

Jake looked at his sword with some appreciation, even if he had been thinking about shifting to a two-handed sword, he now had a good reason to keep this sword, unless he found a magic weapon of a different type.

“Sorry, that we are late,” A distant voice said as he turned. His friend’s characters looked basically unchanged, except for Micheal’s character who wore his axe at his side and had a hunting spear.

Jake decided that a rare and limited title was a good exchange for the delay, but he didn’t feel like telling them about it and asked, “Where do you want to go?”

“There is an old ruined fort some distance out of town. According to the priest it is not yet occupied by anyone, but the Chaotic forces do occasionally try to claim them and start local problems early. I think there might still be some old military stores and if we are lucky a treasury.”

Jade commented, “Why would there be a treasury? If I were abandoning the fortress, that is the first thing I would take.”

John muted his microphone for a little while, but turned and started walking out of town. They all followed.
