Lucas was unsure of the purpose behind the military's presence near the yard. Whether they came here to clear out zombies and insects or if it was related to his own speculation, he needed to prepare either way.

With the bus engine still not repaired and unable to move, Lucas had to leave it parked in the yard. At this moment, Lucas went to the underground warehouse not to search for the entrance to a Doomsday Fortress, but to transfer as many supplies as possible onto the bus.

Once the bus was repaired, it would be difficult for it to sustain damage without heavy explosives. Furthermore, the repaired bus would look just like any other, except for the inability to see inside from the windows.

Lucas wasted no time and kept a close eye on the ongoing battle while moving supplies onto the bus. The battle was intense, but the military remained stationary, providing Lucas with more time.

Using a saw made from insect limbs, Lucas opened the iron gate of the yard and made several trips on his motorcycle, carrying food and gasoline to the metal-roofed house. With the battle taking place far away, the surroundings of the yard were relatively safe, and Lucas encountered no infected beings or insects.

At the metal-roofed house, there was at least ten days' worth of food stored. After hiding the motorcycle, Lucas returned to the yard. His plan was to temporarily stay at the metal-roofed house if the military's target was indeed the yard. This would also provide him an opportunity to complete the assigned tasks and gather the necessary materials to repair the bus engine as soon as possible.

Lucas believed that there shouldn't be any problems with leaving the bus in the yard. The current bus was likely only susceptible to damage from insects. If the military's target wasn't the yard, it wouldn't affect him, and he would continue to stay in the yard.

Climbing onto the roof of the single-story house, Lucas silently observed the battle from there. Three hours after the military appeared nearby, the convoy finally began to move, and their direction was towards the yard. The headlights of the military vehicles were now significantly diminished.

Lucas estimated that the current size of the military force wouldn't exceed one hundred people. Three military vehicles stayed behind as rearguards while the rest rushed towards the yard. At this point, Lucas still couldn't determine if they were coming for the yard, but that didn't matter.

What mattered was that, through the light of the battle, Lucas saw at least two insects trailing behind the military vehicles. Although conventional weapons couldn't deliver fatal damage to them, under a large-scale attack, insects would still be injured. They could feel pain, unlike the infected beings such as zombies who lacked consciousness until they evolved into higher-level ones.

The insects didn't follow too closely, leaping a few times and maintaining a distance of several hundred meters behind the military vehicles. Lucas knew this was not a good sign, as he didn't want the insects to enter the yard. He furrowed his brow, unable to come up with an immediate solution.

This area had always had few vehicles, and there were no obstacles on the road. The convoy of military vehicles quickly arrived on the road outside the yard, just around two hundred meters away. Lucas quickly descended from the roof and hid outside the collapsed yard wall.

If the military didn't enter the yard shortly, he would return to the bus immediately. But if they did come in, he would go to the metal-roofed house.

The military stopped about a hundred meters away from the yard, and seven or eight military vehicles dispersed. Soldiers came out of them and began to build a firepower defense line, fending off the approaching zombies and the two insects.

This action made Lucas even more convinced that the military's destination was the yard.

Why would they choose to build a firepower defense line outside the yard when there are other places?

As expected, the remaining dozen military vehicles parked directly outside the yard's gate.

Soldiers kept getting off the vehicles, and around ten of them ran into the yard to inspect the situation inside.

Lucas didn't dare to make any sudden movements. He observed the yard's situation through a small hole he had made using a saw made from insect legs.

The bus and the collapsed section of the yard wall were quite noticeable.

A soldier came over, took a quick look, and then started calling others, preparing to push the bus out of the yard and repair the gap in the wall.

Two military vehicles quickly entered the yard, and a soldier tied a steel wire to the bus's front hook. One of the military vehicles maneuvered around the gap on the outside.

Meanwhile, several soldiers began clearing the bricks and stones from the collapsed section of the yard wall.

The efficiency of the military in doing these tasks was indeed high.

The heavy bus was forcefully pushed out of the yard.

Lucas had been watching nearby the whole time, feeling a sense of joy.

With the military's intervention, it would be much easier for him to drive away in the bus.

Although the soldiers had tried to open the bus door for inspection earlier, they couldn't manage to do it. They couldn't even break the windows.

At that time, one soldier shouted at the others, but no one paid attention.

In such a critical situation, the safety of their lives was the most important thing. Nobody had the time to study the bus.

After the bus was pushed out of the yard, it took less than fifteen minutes to repair the collapsed wall.

At this point, Lucas was farther away inside the yard and had circled around to the nearby woods.

One side of the woods provided a clear view of the road outside the yard.

The lights of the military vehicles that were cleaning up in the distance had already disappeared, indicating that they had all been destroyed.

Meanwhile, the temporary firepower defense constructed outside the yard was blazing with gunfire, and the sound of guns and cannons was incessant.

Under the intense firepower, the road was filled with the corpses of the zombies that had been chasing after them.

However, the two insects did not move. They just continued to emit piercing screams behind the constantly approaching horde of zombies.

Lucas knew that the insects were calling for reinforcements.

At this moment, he was torn between staying or leaving.

He didn't care about the fate of the military force; he was worried about the bus being destroyed by the insects.

And there was also the fact that he was currently not safe.

Should he leave immediately or stay and do something? Lucas's mind was quickly racing with thoughts.
