Reincarnation. The process of being reborn after passing on, either due to personal beliefs or because of some fantasy setting. Usually, the person will be reborn according to their past life’s deeds. They will also never remember their past lives at all.
In modern fictions and stories, the main character gets reincarnated and gets to live in a fantasy world. I was always hoping something like that would happen to me, but I never expected it would be like this.
Let’s look back on my life.
I was a simple man, one of few interests. Or many, depending on your point of view. My grandparents would say I had no worthy interests. My mother would say I had too many interests. My friends, the few I had, all thought I had a fair amount of interests.
One, I never told my grandparents how I truly felt, so they didn’t know about my hobbies and outlets of entertainment. Two, I always talked with my mom since I was a bit of a loner in the first place. Three, the only friends I had were from the weirdo group that stood off to the side before school started. We had no extracurricular activities and we spent our time doing ‘useless’ shit.
I played games, watched anime, read manga and web novels. I was a simple high schooler. I planned to attend a game designer college, but that went bust. I came back home to my mom and brother to go to community college. I got my basics and earned a certificate in tech support.
After I moved out, I spent most of my young adult years in that area, wasting my life with nothing but my useless hobbies. I stopped talking to friends and got absorbed with the people who had similar interests as me on the internet. I never got out, never met a girl, and never started a family.
And since I’m some sort of moron, I never even lost my virginity. I spent my time reading stories and had this nice idea of settling down with the first girl I fell in love with, but that fell through in high school. Never got the courage to actually tell her how I felt.
Probably all well and good since she is living happily with her husband and children.
I got health issues from bad habits and unhealthy food choices. I developed high blood pressure and had to start seeing the doctor to live longer, but that required more money. I couldn’t afford that with my measly salary.
And to top it all off, I got laid off. So I did what any normal person would do.
I jumped.
I was going to die anyway, why wait and make it worse? Just end it right now, right?

I always had suicidal thoughts and tendencies in middle school, but everyone had trouble in middle school. Though at one point, I found out I had a bad fear of dying. Large quantities of blood and pain will do that to a person. It would keep me up at night for hours sometimes.
I was standing on the edge of the bridge, overlooking the horizon. It was a beautiful sunrise, a dawn of a new day. Another day of pain and turmoil. Suffering and anguish. After I had that thought, my mind cleared and I had a deep yearning to go swimming. I stripped down to my boxers and tried to do my best impression of a swan dive.
I failed, to say the least. I failed at trying to die, that is. Or succeeded…but not the way I wanted. I landed on my back which paralyzed me, stopping me from being able to move my arms and legs. Trying to overcome the pain and the oncoming death, I was filled with terror as water filled my lungs. I did not have an easy death, and not being able to fight back made it all the more worse.
My last thought was how I missed the giant rock I was aiming for by only three feet.
Soon, my body went numb and the stinging pain that burned my lungs soon faded away as my vision went dark.

Huh? Am I…
Heh…haha…HaHa…HAHA!!! I’m alive! Huh? A god damn huge ass frog?! What the hell is this?!
I awoke underwater, only to see a massive frog in front of me! I couldn’t move, but I felt something surround me. I tried wiggling around, but whatever it was would not come off that easily.
I focused on my body, trying to wiggle my limbs and appendages, but couldn’t. I wasn’t paralyzed, since my lower half seemed to move, but I couldn’t see anything about myself! It also felt like my vision was really bad. Maybe it had to do with whatever was surrounding me?
I looked carefully, and noticed little semi clear sacks surrounding me. They had little black shapes inside each one, wriggling around. I guess they are baby frogs, tadpoles.
Uh…
Wait…
Doesn’t that mean…
I’m a tadpole?! What kind of nonsense is this?!

Well, that brings me back to the topic of reincarnation. I don’t know how, since I never believed in reincarnation in the first place, but I had somehow been reborn as a frog. Great.
