The Doctor Turned Small

In time travel machine/spaceship, that look like a blue British police box  that is bigger on the inside than on the outside named “TARDIS” (Time And Relative Dimension In Space), a short man that looked like he was in early 50s with brown greying hair collected in tufts at the side of his head and blue eyes was relaxing. He was wearing formal clothes like his usual, a red waistcoat along with a brown suit, a black tie and a cream Panama hat.

His name was the Doctor, and was now at nearly the end of his seventh life out of 13.

Since it has been a while since he visited Earth, he decided to return there and visit Japan, a place which, weirdly enough for him, he had never visited.

When the TARDIS rematerialised in late 20th Century Japan, the Doctor took his umbrella and left the ship.

Outside, it was nearly midnight, the Doctor landed near a beach, as he could admire a crystal clear sea.

"Ah, what a wonderful view." He thought., as he walked along the seafront.

He felt relaxed by doing so, especially since his life is so turbulent, that he definitely needs a break once in a while.

…However, the universe seemed to disagree with it.

The Doctor heard a glass shattering, immediately gaining his attention.

As the curious person he was, he went to check the source of the noise.

It came from an abandoned factory near an empty port.

He hid near a box and eavesdropped on the conversation.

Inside, there was a man dressed all in black, with  short black hair and wearing sunglasses.

Near him, there was the corpse of a middle-aged man with dark hair.

"Ah, a murder?" The Doctor thought. "Well, it's not really my department, especially if it's made by humans. Well, I'll just contact the local police and-"

The Doctor's thoughts were interrupted by a tall man with long silver hair and dressed all in black knocking him out with a metal pipe.

"Seriously? Again?" The tall man spoke

"Huh?" The man with sunglasses said.

"You got followed by someone, you idiot!" The tall man said annoyed, but then he chuckled. "Well, guess we're using the APTX again." He forced the Doctor to ingest a pill and water, then he put a gun near him. "There you go, it'll look like he killed him and commited suicide right after. Let's go."

The two men in black left, while the Doctor was still alive.

However, his hand started glowing: He was regenerating.

The Doctor dragged himself towards the TARDIS, while trying not to get caught by the men in black, in case they were still around.

He entered in, while the TARDIS dematerialised, making his usual groaning, wheezing noise, the Doctor fainted, while a golden light covered all his body.

The TARDIS landed inside a house, and the only thing he could remember before going completely blank was a voice of a little girl calling him.

----------------------------------------

"Hello?"

The Doctor continued hearing a voice calling him.

His vision was blurry, but it was slowly becoming clearer.

"A…House? Have I landed in a house?" The Doctor thought. "Where…Am I?" He struggled speaking.

"Oh? You're in my house. I thought you needed help." She smiled.

The Doctor's vision became clearer and now could see the face of his rescuer. It was a little girl with short brown hair, with some hair points sticking out on the side of her head and a pink hairband.

"A child? Huh, never thought human children could be this caring." The Doctor thought, he reached out his hand and caressed the girl's cheek. "Thanks for saving me, little miss. I'm in debt with you." He smiled. "By the way, what's your name?"

The girl slightly blushed by the sudden act of affection, but then she smiled again. "I'm Ayumi, Ayumi Yoshida. Nice to meet you!"

"Ayumi, huh? What a lovely name. I'm the Doctor." The Time Lord introduced himself.

“Doctor?” Ayumi tilted her head. "Doctor Who?"

"Precisely." The Doctor stood up from the bed he was resting on. "Tell me, where are your parents?"

"Hmm? They're at work. I'm alone at home, for now." Ayumi said. "Oh and, why did you call me "little miss" before?"

"Because you're a child, of course." The Doctor nonchalantly said.

"But you're also a child!" Ayumi complained, surprising the Doctor.

"...What?" He said.

"I said, you're also a child!" She repeated.

"...Sorry, where can I find a mirror?"

"There's one in the bathroom, near the entrance."

The Doctor walked to the mirror with a bit of a hurry and was shocked at his newly regenerated body.

He was now a beautiful child, probably of Ayumi's age and much taller than her, with long messy brown hair, had green eyes and was still wearing the now too big clothes of his previous incarnation.

"So…That's how I look now, huh?" The Doctor thought, as he calmed down. Well, I don't look bad, I've never regenerated into a child before." He turned to Ayumi "Sorry, have you got any spare clothes? These are a bit too big."

Ayumi thought for a moment. "I think I can get some! Follow me!" She said, the Doctor obliged.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

The two entered Ayumi's parents room. The girl opened a wardrobe and pulled out a dusty box.

"Mama told me Papa used to wear these clothes for Halloween, try them!" She said, as she gave the clothes to the Doctor.

The Doctor took them and went to change.

After he returned, he was wearing a green frock coat, high-waist trousers, a grey cravat, and a grey double-breasted waistcoat.

Ayumi was enthusiastic about the results. “You look great!”

“Do I? I look like a child cosplaying Oscar Wilde.” the Doctor commented. "But anyway, thanks for the clothes but, I need to go."

"Huh? Where?" Ayumi asked.

"To a place, no need to worry." He said, as he opened the door of the TARDIS.

"W-Wait!" She said. "Will I meet you again?"

The Doctor smiled, as he headpatted the girl. "I don't know, but I hope so. Maybe in the land of dreams. Until we meet again, Ayumi Yoshida."

The Doctor entered the TARDIS and closed the door, as the blue box dematerialised, making her usual groaning, wheezing noise.

Ayumi, naturally, was amazed at the sight.

Meanwhile, the Doctor thought of his situation.

"So, from what I remember, two men in black made me ingest a bizarre poison triggering a regeneration, making me a child. I get that regeneration is a lottery, but this is too much! I need to investigate." The Doctor pulled down a lever and the TARDIS entered the Time Vortex.

----------------------------------------

One year later, Ayumi's life changed.

First of all, after the arrival at her school of Conan Edogawa (aka Shinichi Kudo, a famous high school detective who was also forced to ingest the same poison as the Doctor), a boy with brown cowlick hair and glasses, wearing a blue suit with a red bowtie, she became a member of the "Detective Boys" a group of young detectives composed by her, Conan and two friends of her: the strong and a bit dumb one, Genta Kojima and the smart and thin one, Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya. They solved many cases together (with 98% of the work done by Conan) and the latter was currently working alone on a case of missing children.

One day, their classmates chatted about the arrival of a transfer student.

"Have you heard about it? The transfer student is a boy from Ireland!"

"Ireland? That far place?"

"I hope he's nice!"

The door of the classroom opened, along with the teacher, the new transfer student entered. Ayumi recognised him: It was the Doctor, still wearing the same clothes she gave to him a year ago.

"Everyone, give a warm welcome to your new classmate, John Smith." The teacher said

"My name is John Smith and I'm from Gallifrey, Ireland. Nice to meet you all." He said, as he winked at Ayumi.

"Alright, John, you may sit near Conan." The teacher said.

"Yes, ma'am." The Doctor obliged.

After he sat down, the lessons continued.

However, most of the students' attention was focused on the Doctor, especially because of his attitude and eccentric clothes.

After the school day ended, the Doctor continued acting distant and cold, not trying to befriend anyone. Especially when Ayumi tried to talk to him, he always found an excuse to stop the conversation.

However, this raised Conan's suspicions.

Eventually, after a bit of following, Conan saw the Doctor waving his sonic screwdriver around the corridor, as if he was searching for something.

“What is he doing?” the boy thought. “He seems to wander that device around, is that a scanner or something?"

He turned around and…found out the Detective Boys were following him, scaring the living daylights out of him.

“W-WOAH! G-Guys…” Conan said, surprised. “W-What are you doing here?!”

The Detective Boys weren’t getting fooled by him, now got used to the boy with glasses disappearing all of sudden.

“We could ask the same question, Conan.” Mitsuhiko said.

“You disappeared all of sudden, so we went to find you.” Ayumi said.

“You were trying to sneak again to solve a case, weren’t you?” Genta said.

“Huh, well…” Conan tried to think of an excuse, but…

“You know, you guys are really bad at stalking.” the Doctor caught them.

“H-How did you find us out?!” Genta said.

“You were really loud at talking, simply.” the Doctor snarky said. “Now, shoo, this place isn’t for human children-I mean, children.”

The Detective Boys were visibly annoyed. “But you’re also a child!”

“Oh, right. Sometimes I forget I look like a child now.” the Doctor muttered. “Anyway, get lost! We’re too many-”

Suddenly, everyone heard a monstrous growl.

“...Here.” the Doctor finished the sentence.

“W-What was that noise?!” Mitsuhiko, rightfully scared, asked.

“I’ll explain later, now RUN!” the brown-haired “boy” ordered.

Conan and the Detective Boys, without objecting, followed him.

They hid in a classroom, under the teacher's desk.

"W-What's going on?!" Ayumi asked, scared.

"That's the thing I was searching for, a Chesnol." The Doctor explained. "It's a carnivorous alien, I know that children are its favourite food, so I thought they might have hid in an elementary school.”

“A-A-Alien?!” The Detective Boys said in unison.

"Meh." Conan was highly sceptical. "It’s probably someone putting a prank on us, aliens don’t exist.”

“Too bad they do.” the Doctor said. “Now, you guys run away, while I go to the monster and capture them with this.” he showed the antimatter trap to the kids and then started walking away.

“W-Wait, Doctor!” Ayumi took his hand. “P-Please, don’t go.”

The Doctor smiled, as he caressed the girl’s cheek. “Don’t worry, Ayumi. I’ll survive, I promise. Now, go!”

“Hey, Ayumi?” Mitsuhiko whispered. “Have you met John before?”

“And why did you call him “Doctor”?” Genta asked.

“I-”

“We don’t have time for explanations.” Conan said. “John, or Doctor, whatever-his-name-is is right, it’s better if we leave, now that he’s acting as a decoy for us.”

The Detective Boys followed Conan as they left the classroom.

----------------------------------------

Meanwhile, the Doctor confronted the Chesnol.

It was a large, grey worm like creature, so tall that it reached the roof of the hallway.

“Hello!” the Doctor said. “You must be a Chesnol, right? I’m the Doctor, nice to meet you.”

The Chesnol growled in his face.

“Not very fond of socialising, aren’t we?” the Doctor sarcastically commented. “Well, in all due honesty, neither am I. And please, wash your teeth, your breath stinks of dead children.”

The Chesnol growled again.

“Anyway, much to your displeasure, there aren’t any children here now, just you and me, two old farts.” he chuckled.

The Time Lord glanced away, and noticed that Conan was hiding behind a wall. The boy pressed a button on his right shoe and started glowing.

Thinking Conan had a plan, he continued gaining time. “You know what? I thought of a wonderful present for you, I hope you like it!” The Doctor ducked.

After he pressed a button on his belt, a football came out it, he kicked it with his right foot, powering the strength of the kick.

The ball hit the Chesnol in the face, knocking it out. The Doctor  then threw the antimatter trap at the monster and triggered it with his sonic screwdriver, capturing it.

It was over.

The Doctor sighed in relief. “That was fun.” he thought. He went to Conan, helping him stand up. “Thanks for the assist.”

The boy took his hand and stood up. “You’re welcome.” he smirked. “Ayumi told me about you, as she was dead worried, so I thought it was worth going to  search for you.”

“Oh, she told you, then?” the Doctor said. “Such a nice kid she is. Anyway, do you believe in aliens, now that you see one?”

“Well…Yeah, I’m not a person who denies the evidence.”  Conan said. “What kind of Detective would I be if I do so?”

The Doctor chuckled. “You’re funny. Tell me, you’re not an actual kid too, are you? The way you speak definitely doesn't sound like a human child would do."

“Huh?! W-What are you talking abou-”

“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna tell it to anyone.” he said. “After all, I’m not a kid either, after ingesting that weird poison…”

“You too?!” Conan said. "You came in contact with those men in black?!"

"So my theory was right, I wasn't the only one that got shrunk." The Doctor said. "Anyway, let's talk about it later, I don't want to make that poor child worry too much."

"You're right, let's go."

The two left the school and reunited with the Detective Boys.

Naturally, they were worried for the two, and Ayumi rushed to hug the Doctor, causing Mitsuhiko and Genta's jealousy.

The Doctor explained everything to the group, who and what he is, who his people (the Time Lords) are and how he met Ayumi.

The Detective Boys, compared to Conan, didn't seem to have any objections about the Doctor's alien nature, in fact, they were in complete awe of it, assaulting the Doctor with tons of questions, so much that forced the Time Lord to escape in the TARDIS, not before promising them to bring them for an adventure one day.

----------------------------------------

One day, in the TARDIS, the Doctor was preparing everything for Conan and the Detective Boys’ first adventure.

But suddenly, he heard a noise, like some sort of thunder. He immediately went to check and found a thin little girl, with wavy auburn hair at mid neck length who was wearing a dark purple turtleneck and a white lab coat that is DEFINITELY too big for someone of her age, fainted on the floor.

The Doctor sighed. “Here we go again.” he said, as he rushed to the girl to the rescue.
