Chapter 1.1: First Songs and Sights

'Wyrms are deadly monsters to fight whenever an adventuring party tries to get past bronze. Their long bodies and natural armor along with little to no distinction on them other than scars make finding a lethal point to strike at impossible. Ranged attacks can slip off their hides or just bounce back to you. And there's no telling what abilities its subspecies and class can give it.

And with how adaptable they are, any fight with wyrms is a toss of the proverbial dice.

Most kill the weakest of their kind, purple scaled wyrms. Strong and able to burrow deep into the ground, they and their evolutions has got every other wyrm beat with pure physical strength.

Though that usually doesn't matter much when fireballs, deadly ice arrows, and a good ol' chokehold can kill them pretty easily.'

The wyrm probably should've seen this coming.

If it had a modicum of sense that was. In its head, it just saw that its enemy had come out of its shell to fight like a man, err, wyrm?

Of course, it didn't mean enemies in plural, even with as little intelligence as physically possible in its head. It still had survival instincts passed down through the generations of its species. Cultivated by monsters who could fully remember the experiences of their parents, and their parents before them. With enough time and effort.

And a fraction of those instincts told it that it would never survive a fight with every wyrm in the room. Course, this discounted their giant father, who the wyrm felt would easily cowed and forced to sing again when it saw its might!

Needless to say, while common situations like being surrounded by beings which could easily kill you are far more common in a monsters life. The experience of wanting to threaten someone into playing a delightful piece of music, had far less resources to draw upon.

Even then, such a miniscule amount of info would've not been available till much later to the young wyrm.

Still, it held its head up high. Preparing to launch a strike and brutally end its first enemy!

As it squatted, tigthened its muscles, and prepared to end its hated foe.

Something strange happened.

A painful cry echoed through the cavern, distracting many wyrms throughout the the many tunnels. A small white wyrm had fallen down, blood pooling around its head. Blue blood spilled on the once dry dusty floors.

There was a large amount of dust actually, one that the wyrm didn't believe existed a second ago.

A large roar suddenly filled the air, a deadly sonic blast which sent the wyrm flying backwards and hitting the wall with a small thud. Hundreds of other smaller wyrms were sent flying by the sonic blast, some flying to the far side of the cavern, others down smaller holes drilled into the sides. Or just being turned into a fine mush.

This made our wyrm's landing far more vanilla than others. Plopping right against the large emerald wyrm it had just prepared to attack. Dazed and a little confused. The Emerald wyrm was still struggling to comprehend the sudden vastness of consciousness. And the small wyrm pinned to its side could do little more then watch what had sent it flying.

A large grey wyrm charged at the place where the first wyrm had fallen, throwing itself at the small monster it struck the floor and bounced off. Flying directly intoa group of smaller, still stunned wyrms.

With a large crash it had crushed dozens of them underneath its bulk. Triggering the rest to begin the fight.

One particularly large brown wyrm had released the large sonic blast. Before being tackeled by a flying wyrm with lightning wrapped around it, another battle began as dozens of glowing wyrms charged a far larger blue wyrm. Water pouring out from every inch of its skin and dousing its attackers.

As our wyrm slowly unpinned itself from its greatest enemy, a large explosion rocked the cavern. Causing stones to fall on many wyrms, crushing most and injuring a few. A large crater had formed where the water wyrm and its enemies had been fighting. The former now a shriveled corpse that was quickly dragged into the crater by a long thin leg.

Wait what?

The wyrm watched in horror as a large creature emerged from the hole, covered in a thin layer of dust. Eleven black eyes gazed around the room with cold hunger.

The creature, let out a massive roar of hunger before charging and goreing a nearby wyrm. One with orange chitinous skin and a single crimsion tear drop eye. One that had the life in it fade out in an instant.

A soft crunch echoed across the cavern, waking up the wyrms to action. A massive black wyrm pounced on the creature as it quickly slurped the dead wyrm in its fangs down like a bad alcoholic drink.

In a blur, the creature let go of the drained wyrm before biting deep into the belly of the blacy wyrm. Ripping open the monster with a twitch of its fangs. Gore spilled forth and covered the creature in a cloth of gore.

The wyrm was suddenly filled with a wave of new emotion, something that it didn't knew existed or even believed possible.

Fear. Fear of death. fear of being thrown into an uncaring void.

But most importantly. Fear of never hearing that wonderful song again.

No! This wyrm would never fail to hear that majestic melody!

With a roar, more of the creature flowwed forth like a tide, they flooded into the cavern and cut through the sea of wyrms like a cold dark blade. Nothing stopped them as they smashed and tore through eveyr wyrm in their way.

One was split clean in two, another torn in a hundred purple pieces, another crushed by a rock. Another still just stopped moving entirely.

Without the wyrm's knowledge, it was moving again!

Huzzah! It would live another day, exact revenge on the many things that had tried to kill it today, and wake up that jerk who had decided to refuse it the right to hear that wonderful song!

That was when it noticed it was still pinned to the massive emerald wyrm it had attempted to kill tne minutes ago. A wyrm, who was now charging the creatures which had torn through every other wyrm like wet paper.

No you idiot! Was what the small wyrm pinned to the side wanted to say, but before it could, and way before it could even translate its impossibly complex idea's in a way that the big brute charing would understand.

A wave of dust and earth shot forward and tore through everything around them. Tidal waves of blood flew forth as the creatures vanished from the wyrms eyes in a puff of dust.

A second later, the entire wyrm's view shook. As one of them charged and gored the emerald wyrm.

All it saw next was a flash of red.
