Chapter XXII - Preparation

Chapter XXII - Preparation

In the south forest, surrounded by trees, Leonidas and twenty young wasps were busy working on the wood tip spears.

"My General, is this good enough?" A young wasps asked Leonidas about a new made spear .

"Let me see it!" Leonidas said to the young wasp, quickly grabbing the spear he made.

"The tip could be more sharped, like this!" He told the young wasps as he grabbed his sword to use it to sharp the wood tio spear.

After a few seconds, he pointed the spear to the young wasps "Like this! Now, keep working!" He ordered the wasp.

All the wasps were busy, trying to do their best to make the wood tip spears.

At each time one of them would finish it, they would show it to Leonidas, who was sitting with his back on a tree, with a pile of new spears on his right side.

"I should have asked Caesar for his swords. It seems I will have to properly sharp all the tips myself!" Leonidas decided to himself after watching the wasps complete their spears.

While the wasps could use their mouths to break and shape the wood to some extension, to make a sharp tip, it would require something like a sword for that job.

"Let's take a break!" Leonidas shouted to the young wasp group.

The wasps all sat in front of Leonidas, happy to rest after working for several hours.

"I hope White God is happy with what we did!" A young wasp spoke.

"Yes! Me too!" A second young wasp added to the conversation.

"I don't mind all this work, but I cant wait to be a warrior!" A third young wasp declared.

"You can barely eat a full bunny and you want to be a warrior before me?" The first young wasp commented to the third young wasp's dream.

"Have patience. I am sure that all of you will be great warrior wasps someday!" Leonidas encouraged the wasps.

The wasps were happy to ear that from Leonidas.

"Resting too much is for young waps! I will keep working!" The third wasp shouted as he rose up.

In that moment, one by one, every young wasp returned to work and as Leonidas looked at them, he felt delighted of their efforts towards their hive.

The wasps kept working, while Leonidas kept having deep thoughts while he sharped every wooden spear the young wasps made.

Time slowly passed as the wasps were nursing, hunting, crafting and training.

Now it was late afternoon as Leonidas looked at the sky above, the young wasps who were working, paused to see what he was doing.

"General, what's wrong?" One of them inquired their leader.

Leonidas looked back at the group.

"These are the last spears that we make today, let us finish them up quickly so that we rejoin with our hive!" Leonidas politely ordered the young wasps.

The young wasps did not hurry to finish the work. They took their time, but they were happier, as training and then supper were soon to come.

Meanwhile, inside the Hive.

(What should I do now?)

I wondered, asking myself what to do, everyone had their orders, so in the end, I was kinda bored.

(I guess I will check the floors?) I decided as I rose up and walked to the direction of the stairs.

As I reached the second floor, two young wasps were there, either guarding the door or simply resting, probably both things.

The young wasps immediately bowed the moment they saw me and I responded with a wave using my right hand, I did not speak as I passed trough them.

(I don't know what to say to them, better to be quiet than to say a potential mistake.)

Entering the nest room, I could see that it was full of eggs once more and that there was something new.

(I was wondering how they had space, it was very smart from them to use the entirety of the room!)

I had been asking myself, how would such large number of the eggs, larvae and cocoons fit in this room.

But looking at the ceiling, there they were, the cocoons, all hanging in there, with the addition of several young wasps looking after the larvae.

It took a few moments, but slowly, they noticed I was there, they politely bowed to me and then continued their work.

(I think I will check the next floor, it would be for the best that I do not disturb Cleopatra while she is laying eggs...)

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

Moving to the third floor, there was a larger change than the previous room, huge piles of bunnies were spread all across the food chamber and several others were either hanging on the ceiling or lined up along the walls.

(What the fuck?) I was surprised at the view, there were a few hundreds of bunny corpses in the room.

As I grabbed one of the bunnies with my right hand, slowly I mumbled. "Wish I knew how to make a coat with them."

After throwing the dead bunny to one of the piles, I returned to the Great Hall.

Going back in time, outside the Hive, the main Wasp force was training.

At first, there was confusion, Ragnar and Caesar disagreed as they had different opinions.

"You need to be faster!" Ragnar screamed at the slower wasps, "Being slow can be the death of you!" he stated.

"You have to strike with a strong blow!" Caesar commanded the warriors as they tried the wasp attack move.

With these words from the 2 generals, the formation attack lost it's sync, while the strong wasps were still in the middle of flying above the first line of wasps, the faster wasps had already completed the attack movement.

Hours passed, and nothing changed with the exception of the increasing frustration and confusion in the group.

"You all must perform the attack at the same time!" (Caesar)

"Then tell your wasps to be faster!" Ragnar screamed at Caesar.

"How about your wasps stop making weak attacks?" Caesar angrily answered with a suggestion.

The warriors were confused, while they had previous trained with the Generals together, this was something different.

"Are you telling me that speed is not important?" Ragnar inquired Caesar for his opinion.

"Speed is important, but it's not worth having speed with that kind of weak attacks!" Caesar informed the group.

With this phrase, their argument stopped as both Generals were thinking of how to fix this situation.

"We are both right, what should we do then? We cannot focus on only one of these things." Ragnar asked Caesar for a solution as in the end, he was the oldest wasp of the group.

"Yes, wasps need to be faster, stronger and learn to be in sync!" (Caesar)

Both generals looked at each other and decided to work together.

After a pause of a few minutes, the wasps resumed their formation training.

The Generals decided to throw their frustrations and kept trying to help the wasp warriors to improve.

The problem was that they only had one day and the pressure was heavy on them.

It was different from when the young wasps could take the time they needed to learn the basics of hunting and fighting with weapons.

They were all feeling this heavy pressure, they all knew that a single wasp warrior failing that day, could later on become a strong step into extinction.

Hours passed and slowly the sync showed inside the great hall, had returned once again outside the hive.

After a moment, the young wasp group returned along with Leonidas, flying low, above the grass, each one carried a large number of spears.

The warrior group stopped their training as the young wasps carried the wooden tip spears to inside while Leonidas headed to the other two Generals.

"What are you doing?" Leonidas inquired Caesar and Ragnar as the wasp warriors stood in formation.

"Training what White God taught us this morning!" (Ragnar)

"Yes, this is the wasp formation!" (Caesar)

"Formation?" (Leonidas)

"Yes, we will explain you in the way, Great DK asked for the three of us to join him once you arrived." (Caesar)

With that, the warrior wasps resumed the previous training with weapons as the Generals walked into the great hall.

As the Generals reached the entrance and the young wasps group were leaving, one of them informed the generals that the Great White God had told them that they could train with the warrior wasps.

And so, the Generals sat in front of White God, in the future, history of this world would describe this moment as the First War Council.
