On the ground, lay the body of the lifeless legendary sorcerer. To his left, a tearful girl laid, covered in soot staring in shock at him.
Without a single moment of peace, his life faded to black.

'Well, I guess that alchemy accidents can happen to anyone.'
Ensen, the legendary midnight sorcerer, has an infamous reputation. He has laid waste to country after country of demihumans, by order of the king. However, when the remaining demihuman countries united, the king declared he was being manipulated by Ensen, leaving him to fend for himself.
He quickly fled the continent, using a boat he found to drift in the sea. Days turned into months, then years. Ensen never once regretted leaving home, he was the son of a continent-wide crime organization. His birth itself was seen as a nuisance. Until they discovered his heaven-defying affinity for magic. He was raised into an unstoppable killing machine, his emotions turned duller and duller until he decided to leave them behind, trying to impress his parents by showing them his skills. He was used by the organization for years until he was abandoned by everyone he ever knew.
He spent the next two decades drifting in the sea, using magic to sustain himself. Despair itself seemed to seep into every pore on his body, letting him discover a newly found magic, Genesis magic. Using this magic, his hope for finding land was born.
However, things don't always go one's way. The following night a storm appeared out of nowhere, leaving his boat to crash into a nearby island. Stranded and hurt, he spent the next few years trying to make the island safe.
One night, as if mimicking his own, a storm appeared out of nowhere, the fog rolled in. The sea, restlessly awaiting its next victim. In the distance were faint voices of despair. The fog, as if reacting to his curiosity receded back, revealing two ships.
The first ship rammed into the second, making a loud noise as if thunder was merely a nuisance. They quickly threw ropes over to the other ship, pulling it closer and boarding it. On the other deck, hundreds of men lined up to hold the borders off while women and children swiftly ran to the bow. Everywhere, the cries of woman and children erupted, some deciding to stay, some leaving with their kids.

There was one kid who stood out, a girl with rags covering her body, her hair faded gray from all the dirt covering her body. On either side of her head stood two cat ears.
'That race isn't extinct?'
A sudden explosion in the hull of the ship, everyone jumped. The men, satisfied with their loved ones getting away charged at the attackers to hold them off for as long as possible. The ship, gradually succumbing to the damage, the wood began breaking off into the sea. Suddenly a cannonball erupted from one a ship, dragging both down to the seafloor. Sealing the fate for all who were left on board.
'The cat girl actually washed up here?'
The cat girl, injured and ill, was washed up onto the beach on the following day. Ensen nursed her back to health, gradually coming to peace with himself in the process. After she was healthy, she showed a great interest in his magic, following him around every day to see just a glimpse. After a few more months of working, .he decided to help her learn it. To give her a general understanding of how magic worked, he showed her an experiment and had her recreate it. However, in her excitement she overloaded the ingredients, causing an explosion. And I was too neglectful to cast protection on myself.
And that's how we end up here.

[POV: Emilia]
A girl, short in height exited a door and walked down a luxurious hallway, in her steps excitement and nervousness mixed. Her white hair gently swaying side to side with a gentle smile on her face. The room she just walked out of was the infamous exam of the gods. To pass meant to be qualified to create and manage a universe. She had been preparing for this for many decades. She decided to pick five deities to help manage the multiple races she wanted in the world.
She walked down the hallway leisurely when she abruptly stopped in place.
'He died? It wasn't his time for few more decades, was I wrong? No, it can't be. It looks like I'm going to have to move faster.'
The girl, quickening her pace, ran back to her room.

[POV: Ensen]
Surrounded by black, without a shred of life, Ensen looked around aimlessly, trying to find light. Slowly, Ensen began to understand his predicament.
'I guess this is my punishment, huh?'
Ensen, with little care for his well being, wished for the cat girl to be alright. He never managed to ask her name.
'She's a demihuman, I have no right to be friends with them, They've suffered enough.'
In the absence of activities, Ensen began to think back to his memories, as if trying to relive his life.
'I'm such a fool.'
Despair filling his eyes, Ensen slowly slipped into a deep slumber, the light in his soul fading away.
