Chapter 40
After a pregnant silence, Divine finally said something.
“How could I help you? Do you want me to gather the goblins and attack the town?” Divine’s words immediately told Nola that it would be difficult to get him to help her.
Because not only did he pretend to be weak, but he also proposed the worst possible way he could help her.
But it also told her that it wasn’t impossible or he would've shut her down without further discussion.
“No! No, of course not. I have been watching you and I have seen your great power. How you can command the shadows with a wave of your hand...” Nola laced her voice with a good measure of reverence and admiration. “Perfect to protect from the shadows and strike in the night.”
“You want me to leave the goblins and the forest to go with you to Geroge and kill that knight? I don’t think so.” Divine shot her down.
Now, it was time for her to negotiate.
Nola took his rejection visibly hard and looked at him sadly, like a wounded animal.
Divine just looked back at her, mutely and stone-faced.
“If you help me, I can take my rightful place as Lady Geroge. Then I can reward you with whatever you want.” So, Nola not only wanted him to help with her revenge, but she also wanted to stay there afterwards and be ‘the Lady’.
Divine liked that even less than helping her with her revenge.
Nola picked up on that fact too and sighed, knowing the price she had to offer would be even higher if she really wanted to secure his aid.
“I could provide you and the goblins with tools and lifestock animals. If you plan to develop the tribe at some point, you are going to need these things.” Seeing him unmoved, Nola raised her bid. “How about, I additionally provide you with food and that regularly?”
Stolen story; please report.
He still wasn't moved, even a little.
Nola cursed the Holy Light.
She cursed the Terrible Darkness.
And she cursed Divine’s stone face.
Now she had to offer something she really hadn’t wanted to.
But desperate times…
“I could also give you some women…” Nola hated herself for suggesting it and didn’t elaborate.
But for the first time she got a rection from Divine.
Interpreting it as interest, Nola was a little disappointed but not surprised.
Of course, she was misunderstanding him, but how could she know that.
Divine was shocked about her suggestion.
He hadn’t thought, Nola would go there.
It surprised him very much, and truthfully, it disappointed him a little.
Especially offering others before herself, Divine hadn’t pecked her for that kind of a person.
Not that he himself wouldn’t offer up a thousand men to a soul-sucking succubus or the maw of a dragon before he would deliver himself, but he had gotten more self-sacrificing vibes from her.
But maybe she wasn’t even planning on fulfilling her side of the bargain anyway.
Divine couldn’t decide what he liked less and turned her down. “No. Even though your offer is generous I will have to decline.”
“Can I ask why?” Nola wondered if she could still find a way to convince him without using her last trump card.
“Because… all the things that you offered I can get on my own, I only have to spend some effort. And I would have to fulfill my side of the bargain completely, first, before I can get some benefits.” Divine explained.
“I see…” Nola had hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but when she had made the plan, deep inside, she had known there was only one way for her to convince him.
At this moment, she still had the chance to back off.
Now that it was time to lay her last bargaining chip on the table, she was hesitating.
Nola was scared.
“Is there something else you wanted?” Divine asked after she had been silently sitting there for some time. “If there is nothing else, you can go now.”
That woke her up from her thoughts.
Nola stood up and gathered her courage.
She looked at Divine with determination.
“If I give myself to you, can you please help me?” There, she said it.
Divine was stunned.
He hadn’t expected Nola to go there too, especially after her earlier bid.
She was full of surprises this evening.
Divine would have preferred it if it had come to this some other way and not as part of a deal, but he was still interested in this proposition.
Looking at her with a glint in his eyes, Nola saw he was definitely tempted.
“Promise me that you will help with my revenge and that you will help me assume my rightful position as the Lady of House Geroge.” Nola opened her robe slowly, when she saw him hesitating.
“Promise me.” What scared her the most next to doing the deed with a goblin was the possibility that he wouldn’t fulfill his part of the bargain afterwards.
But what other choices did she have, Nola would extract his promise first and then keep working on him.
Her robe deliberately fell a little, exposing her naked shoulders and a hint of her perky breasts.
Divine stood up too, to look at her from a higher angle.
Nola watched his eyes trail up over her robe and her exposed skin to her lightly blushing face.
She had thought she would be more composed, since she wasn’t a little virgin girl, but Nola was feeling the heat in her cheeks rising.
His head was on the height between her bellybutton and her small breasts, so she parted her robe a little in the front to tease him further.
It worked really well, Divine froze on the spot and just stared.
With a swarm of caterpillars in her belly she stepped closer to him.
His eyes were on the exposed spot on her waistline.
She softly grabbed his chin and guided his face deliberately slowly upwards so that he would see her midriff, her half-covered breasts, her naked shoulders and then her pouty lips before their eyes met.
“Promise me!” Nola repeated.
“I promise.” Divine said, definitely meaning it at the moment.
