Chapter nine

Staring at the point of the broadsword that was pointing at me, I gently reached out and pushed the sword to the side.

"That won't be neccisary. We're here for two reasons. One, There's been some sort of ..thing at the Adventurers guild. They really need some guards there. Like, right now."

The captain squinted his eyes at me and pursed his lips for a moment beforee looking at one of his guards, and gestured with his head, spurring two of them into action. They picked up shields that were leaned against the guard shack by the gate and headed in the direction of the plaza.

"And the second thing?" He said, sheathing his sword and crossing his arms.

I stepped to the side and gestured at Ragweed and Trixa, who stood proudly and nodded to the Captain.

"I completed the goblin subjugation quest. They now want to be citizens."

He blinked twice and looked at the goblins, then back to me.

"Just these two?"

"...A bit more."

"How many more?" The captain scratched his salt-and-pepper beard thoughtfully.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

"Uh," I said brightly, "...all of them."

Ragweed nodded, "The entire village. Our shamans had a vision telling us to reunite with the people."

I cleared my throat, "Yeah, so they're all here. In the fields outside the city, making camp."

The captain looked alarmed, so I raised my hands to calm him.

"No, no. It's not like that. Ragweed here," I gestured to the Goblin chief, "is their leader. He's here to reassure you that they're peaceful. He's your hostage until the rest of his tribe can integrate with the city."

Suddenly a thought sprang to mind.

"Oh shit! We need to get back to the goblins! The players might start attacking them."

"Spaz! You and Nate get out there now! I'll help the captain prepare."

Laurel hiked up her robe and sped off, but was quickly outrun by Nathan. As the two of them left, I turned to the Captain of the guard,

"Can you please send some guards out there to protect the goblins?" I asked.

The captain of the guard frowned, "Son, that's the strangest thing I've ever heard a man say to me."

I balled my fists in frustration, "C'mon man. These are new tax-paying citizes out there, we need to protect them!"

A light lit within his eyes, and he grinned. "We have to help them!" He turned to the rest of his guards and pointed to a chubby faced guard, who clearly seemed to be on the low end of the totem pole. "You, gather ten guards and get out there, now!"

The guard threw a salute, shouted "Yes sir!" and passed through the footgate in the main gate.

The Captain turned towards Ragweed and smiled, "Let's go meet Lord Bauhaus."

Ragweed nodded and rested his hand on Trixa's shoulder, "Let's"

I shook the Captain of the guard's hand, "I'll return to collect the quest reward later, I have to catch up with my friends."

"Good day!" The Captain called out to me as I left and led the two goblins through the gate, and towards the mansion.
