~ Chapter 3: Unexpected Confrontations. ~

Koata had finally reached work after a not so pleasant talk with the devil on his left shoulder, now literally on his shoulder. He worked as a deliverer for different food orders across the city. It was the best job he could have got. It pays less than decent, but at least he isn't trapped in an underground warehouse changing labels for different clothing like before. His manager was okay, and he never really made friends or enemies there.

"Alright, let us see what kind of food we have to deliver today." He wasn't currently at a restaurant but at his boss' office to sign the attendance paper so, he did, he wrote the name, the time and signed. After sitting down on a bench, waiting for his name to be called out after placing an order on the screen above. Achlys decided to break the silence as she sat on his shoulder comfortably.

"You really work here? I mean, I thought it would look fancier if it was a food delivering company." She questioned, clearly unaware that it is not where we get the food from and that we have to go to the restaurant to pick up the food for delivery.

"The restaurants are not here, we go to them in order to pick up the food. We only have to stay here for the first order as we can see what other orders are through my phone. As a worker, they are assigned to me by name." Koata got up and looked at the screen, finally spotting an order.

"Well. I guess it is time, let's go" He sighed and got up, leaving the office and returning to his bike. Got on it and turned it on, heading for Wackdonalds. Unfortunately, his bike can't play music, but that is that. As a teen, riding a bike through the streets was always something nice to do. He loved feeling the wind blow against his hair as he sped through the city, feeling free of the chains that tied his mind together in the form of the grimoire world.

Koata's peace was interrupted by Achlys speaking, which made him click his tongue. "I feel like something terrible is gonna happen to someone. I'm not really sure, though, hm... it does not matter much to me, though, for I am a devil." 'Of course, she was,' Koata mentally deadpanned. Suddenly, something happened to him while driving. His nose started bleeding as his frequent headaches began again.

Quickly pulling up to the side, he turned off the bike to grab the tissues in his back pocket, feeling light-headed as someone approached him, hearing the footsteps getting closer. They got closer as if they were the only thing he could hear. Anyone would be surprised by such a pullover.

"Hey, are you okay, dude?" Koata slowly opened his eyes to look at the person standing in front of him.

A cheerful grin masked his face, but his eyes delivered an expression of worry towards the certain boy in front of him. Hazel eyes, no... more like honey. It was as if honey had dyed the color of the person's eyes in front of him. His blonde hair was of perfect color. A restful shade of white and yellow. It was as if he was staring into the face of an angel. Of course, he didn't fall in love with him, but those descriptions are the least of what could be said about him.

Koata was snapped out of his world at the person screaming into his ears, almost as if he ear-raped him. Koata jumped out of the bike in panic as he landed on his ass. Which caused Achlys to laugh at him. Koata groaned as he thought, 'Broken humor.'

"You look like you are in bad shape, need help?" The boy said as he looked at Koata, who was bewildered.

"O-oh, I am fine, just had a normal nosebleed," Koata replied, making the boy raise his brow. As if judging him internally. In fact, that was exactly what the boy was doing.

"Well... If you say so; and... Normal? Does this happen daily with you or something? That must suck." Koata had to admit. His statements were pretty clear. Now that he thinks about it. It has been happening more recently.

Koata then smiled and thanked the boy before getting on his bike. "I must go deliver this now. Can't be late, and thanks." He waved as his hands gripped the handle and pushed it back, speeding up into the road.

Meanwhile, a woman with the same honey eyes as the boy from earlier was washing the dishes manually. Humming to herself in enjoyment as she listened to music, unaware of the world around her.

Koata had been knocking on her door for at least ten minutes now. A stone cold, dead expression masked his face. "Why can't you fucking answer." He muttered under his breath as his eyebrow twitched.

"Oh hey, it's you again!" The same smiling boy from before waved at him as he walked up the stairs behind Koata and tapped his back. He noticed his annoyed expression. "Are you okay?"

"No. I'm not. I've been knocking for the past 10 minutes, and whoever is in here is not answering. It's a pain in the ass, this job." Koata sighed, frustrated as he complained to the boy in front of him.

"Oh uh, that's actually my house. I think I made that order." The boy laughed as he had realized the tragedy that he caused. "But it's okay, I'm here after all, right...? Right?" His face turned worrisome as Koata's darkened face stopped the boy from seeing his eyes.

"You... Who the hell orders when they're outside!?" Koata screamed at him as the boy stepped back. Bracing for what's about to transpire. But it all stopped when they heard a scream. The scream of a woman inside. Koata dropped the order as his face whipped to the door.

The boy took out his keys and quickly opened the door, rushing inside to see the commotion. Koata had rushed behind him in case something serious happened.

"Mom?!" The boy reached the kitchen as he saw his mother, a frightened expression overtaking her as a shadowy figure of a large fish with a lanky arm sticking out of its eye socket grabbed her. It opened its mouth to reveal its sharp teeth that were about to shred through her. Its form was terrifying.

The boy stepped back as he and Koata had a horrified look on their faces. Koata couldn't move, and neither did the boy. His breathing tensed up. It was just like back then. He quickly stepped back, but his back hit Achlys, who was now in her human image.

She grabbed Koata's shoulder and spoke. "What's wrong? Are you terrified of a mere low-rank devil? Remember who you are and who you're with. There's no need to be afraid, partner." Koata listened to her as he began breathing normally again and focusing. He calmed down.

The case wasn't for the boy and the mother as she screamed. The creature's arm held her in place as the monster opened its mouth to bite her.

Koata closed his eyes as he rushed in there to attack the devil. Swinging at its main body, which was small compared to the arm. The hit collided but barely.

The lower rank devils are the ones closest to the physical realm. That is why some humans are able to deal with them. However, mediocre ranks and high ranks are different and require holy chants to defeat or by magic.

The devil flew back and outside of the kitchen window but quickly balanced itself with its one arm. The sudden movement caused the devil to throw the mother to the side as it flew away, losing its grip. This caused her to get injured as she landed on the counter.

"Hey kid!" Koata panted as he called out to the boy. "Take your mother and take her somewhere else. I've got this." He grinned as he looked back at the boy for a moment. His eyes shone brightly as he looked at Koata in amazement.

"Y-yes, sir!" He was shaking, but he was done as told. Now it was only Koata and the devil who intently looked at him, full of killing intent.

"Come on, you freaky bastard. Let's dance!" Koata shouted at the devil as he rushed towards it. It used its hand to claw at him, but he grabbed it's hand and tried jumping, only to fail as the power of its arm was beyond what he had expected.

Koata flew back, landing on his side as he rolled. Without much space to fight, it was going to be difficult. Koata got up, fatigued as he looked back at Achlys, who was watching, amused. "When I said that, I didn't mean this."

"It doesn't matter! Help me out here!" Koata asked her rudely as she clicked her tongue multiple times and shook her head. "Nah, I'll pass."

"You bastard."

"I mean, what can I say, watching you fight is way more entertaining, you know." Achlys laughed as the devil swung again at Koata, who moved his head to the left to avoid getting hit.

'Any more excessive movements and I'm done for. I need to think of another way. That's right! It's a little dangerous, but it might work.' Koata thought to himself as he grinned at the creature.

"Time to show you my magical attribute you piece of shit." Koata spits on the floor as he wipes away the blood that dripped out of his mouth. He closed his eyes, beginning to draw something green in the air, a familiar rune. Koata breathed in as a golden aura began enclosing him, decorated with a different hue of green.

"Take this!"

"Soul Magic: Dryad's Ethereal Blessings"

The green light that previously engulfed him alongside his aura flew into the air and began transforming into clear lines that formed the outline of a body. The rune from earlier disappeared as the devil was pushed back from the force. The green light faded as the outlines materialized into three-dimensional form. Forming a body.

"Good grief. Summoning me into the human world? That'll cost you quite a bit, you know, Koata." The person smiled at him as the transformation finished. A chain connected from his heart to Koata's chest.

"Viridis!"

To be continued.
