(1) Freefalling~

(1) Freefalling~

The sound of rushing wind bled into my consciousness as I slowly came to. I’m falling?

Wait…... Aren’t I dead? People usually die when a plane explodes and drops outta the sky… Is this the afterlife?

I slowly opened my eyes and took in the painfully bright and saturated blue galaxy zooming by.

Huh. This is not what I thought being dead would be like. I’m freeeeeefaaaaaalllling~

I cackled as the song played through my head.

“Niiihihihihihilego!!!” A shrill echoing cry broke me from the joys of my skydiving experience. Shifting around to see what made the sound, I let out a shrill yelp as a white jellyfish creature who’d just appeared out from who knows where floated towards me, greedily reaching out towards me with its tentacles.

“Gah shit! What the fuck???!” It grabbed my leg as I flailed around, trying to get away. “GET OFF!” I kicked the jellyfish with my free leg, sinking my foot into it’s soft head.

The tentacles grip tightened, causing me to yelp again as pain lanced through my leg.

“Getoffgetoffgetoff!”

Unflinching, the jellyfish grabbed onto my kicking leg and pulled me closer, chattering in glee.

Great! Now I’m gonna be jellyfish food! What type of afterlife is this?

“SOOOLL!” A metallic roar vibrated the very air around us, making the jellyfish flinch and loosen its grip on me. Taking this chance, I gave it another solid kick and broke free of its grasp, using it’s head as a launchpad to jump away.

As soon as I jumped, a glowing white lion with dazzling gold, blue, and orange highlights crashed into the jellyfish, tearing into it’s pale flesh. The shockwave from its impact sent me spinning away into the torso of another creature. A giant bat with a night sky skin texture and golden edges looked curiously down at me with glowing dark pink eyes.

Wait, Lunala and Solgaleo? Da heck??? I gave the night bat a bewildered stare, mouth agape as my already fried brain tried to process this sudden revelation.

Lunala trilled as a light melodic voice spoke in my head. Yes indeed strange one~ I haven’t come across a human soul before, how curious!

“What?!” I asked, what did it mean by human soul?

This is no place for a dead wanderer~ Maybe–hm?

Lunala was interrupted by Solgaleo’s shriek of pain, its eyes narrowed as it glanced at its companion. A shiny black amalgamation of geometric shapes had Solgaleo in its claws while the latter was writhing in its grip.

Necrozma? Why in the? This is all going too fast, I need a moment-

My train of thought crashed and burned when Lunala careened us both to the side, a blindingly bright Hyper Beam barely missing us. The sheer heat from the energy blast made me feel like I was boiling alive despite Lunala shielding me with its wings.

Uh oh, ummm, I have to go. Do not worry, I shall drop you in a safe place! I think. Lunala gave me a derpy smile as it waved its wing. A a glowing interdimensional hole swirled to life beside us.

“Wait, what do you mean ‘you think’?!” I screamed, but I got no answer as Lunala shoved me into the wormhole.

Lunala’s form zoomed away at light speed and a string of expletives flew out of my mouth as I careened through Ultra Space. Dazzling displays of otherworldly colors and shapes spun around me as an unholy assortment of extraterrestrial sounds bombarded my poor ears.

Black symbols with large eyes phased in and out of my vision, swirling in kaleidoscoping spirals, chanting in childish voices, “Laaaa~ Laaaa~”

This was too much. Someone needs to turn the goddamn sound dial down! I tried to block out the sounds by covering my ears with my hands, but my hands were transparents and phased through my head. I was just waiting to wake up and for all of this to be a crazy bad dream that I could forget about.

“Fucking assholes!” I screamed at the shifting mass of living symbols. “Get me outta here! I don’t want to be a space ghost anymore this fucking sucks!”

Just as I was about to shriek out another string of curses at the asshole who thought it would be funny to drop me into this situation, the sounds and colors stopped.

“OOMPH!” The breath was forced out of my lungs as I landed face-first into the ground, eating a mouthful of dirt. Coughing and spitting out grass and soil, I unceremoniously crawled to my feet with a groan and blearily surveyed my surroundings.

The sky was a mix of nauseatingly oversaturated dark blues and neon aquas. Islands of all shapes and sizes floated in the air, oriented in random directions and the waterfalls attached to each island flowed in completely wrong directions.

“Ahahaha… This is crazy. Pokemon? Clearly I missed the memo on how truck-kun’s abilities extended to airplanes. ”

Taking in a deep breath and running my hands through my hair, I finally took stock of the situation I had landed in.

I’ve read a few Pokemon isekai fanfics before, but to think that it would happen to me.

Finally, my eyes registered that I wasn’t see through anymore. I felt my face, yep. Perfectly solid.

“Hehehehe…” I let out a few more nervous chuckles, this felt like some sort of crazy dream. This was all a dream and I would wake up back on the airplane and think about this weird dream I had before moving on with my life.

I closed my eyes and pinched my arm hard before opening them again. Nothing changed. I took another more measured glance at my surroundings. There isn't a Pokemon region with floating islands like this.

Then it hit me. “The Distortion world?” I rubbed my face and took another disbelieving look at my surroundings. Still the same collection of floating islands and awful color schemes.

Out of all the places to end up in the Pokemon world, the Distortion world was far from ideal, I’d rather just be dumped in the Pokemon wilderness. Well, I guess this probably isn’t the worst world place to be sent to, I could’ve been dumped into the middle of a Team Rocket base.

As far as I knew, the only other being here would be Giratina. No idea on if the literal devil of the Pokemon world is as friendly with random isekaiied stranger as it is in the anime with Ash and his kid show protagonist plot armor.

“Am I just gonna be stuck here? Is this really real?” It definitely was real, no dream I’d ever had felt this real. I could feel the individual blades of grass beneath my hands when I touched the ground, my mouth tasted very much like dirt, and I could clearly hear the sounds of water flowing off the edge of the island.

Ignoring my aching muscles, I crawled over to the suspiciously colored pond and looked warily into the saturated blue-green iridescent water, staring at my reflection.

Wait a minute… I leaned closer to the undisturbed water and felt my face. “This isn’t me.” Last I checked I wasn’t a middle schooler, I looked my myself but younger, and with unnatural colored hair and eyes. Navy blue hair and red eyes. Kinda like my default pick for customizing the player character in Pokemon.

Honestly I would’ve preferred staying my older and less colorful self, middle school was awful. Wait, I was kind of intangible before, maybe I didn’t have a body? Is this a new body? Where’s my old body then?

My thought were interrupted when the water abruptly rippled like something had been thrown into it. The pond’s reflection of my eyes turned a bright yellow and my mouth stretched into an abnormally wide grin.

“Huh?”

A small white and red blur zipped out of the pond, playfully splashing me with water before jumping away.

I screamed and hopped back a few paces, spinning angrily to see what it was that had jumpscared me.

“Hey! Watch it!”

“zorua!” A small white and red fox-like Pokemon stood a few feet away from me with a wily grin on it’s face.

“A Zorua?”

The fox pokemon giggled at me before running around me joyously, kind of like a child who’d found a new toy.

I’m not even going to question why there’s a lone Hisuan Zorua in the distortion world. At least I’m not alone anymore.

“Hey… are we the only ones here? Are there more Zorua or Zoroark around? Do you know a way out of this place?” I asked the fox.

The Zorua just stared at me with a blank look, head tilted to the side like a puppy.

I sighed, “I’ll take that as a no. Oh well, would you like to stick around at least? It would be nice to have some company.”

“zorua!” This time Zorua responded, it grinned widely and ran a few more circles around me in excitement.

“Heh, you’re a cute lil guy. Maybe I should give you a nickname. Hmmm…Are you a boy or girl? Do ghosts even have genders?” I asked, Zorua stopped in front of me and morphed the flowing tuft of hair on its head into a one.

“That’s smart. First option? So you’re a boy, ok…ummm…What about Swiper?” The Zorua sniffed haughtily, flattening his ears and shaking his head. “Umm, ok, I can rapid fire them. Foxy, Frosty, Casper, Fang, Aesop, Winnie–”

“zor!” Zorua barked and nodded.

“You like Winnie?” I asked, Zorua nodded again.

“Well then Winnie, I’m Azalea. What do you say about getting off this lump of dirt and finding a way out of this place?”
