Roy lifted up the hatch, revealing pure darkness. He was surprised that he never found the room before, but he was not too shocked as he did not frequent down there too much. Roy stuck his arm in and spun his light around, trying to make out the room he just stumbled upon, and trying to find a way down. His light finally hit a stepladder, so he slowly adjusted himself and made his way down.
Roy surveyed the room, walking about and waving his light. It seemed like the room was a deadend, and led to no other rooms. The only things of interest in the room was a raggedy old book atop a table and what seemed to be either a halfbroken or halfbuilt structure of some kind behind it. Roy leaned towards halfbuilt since he saw some sort of cement near it. He could not tell offhand what it was, but it strongly reminded him of the portals in a sandbox game he saw before.
He walked up to the table, and took a closer look at the book. It was already open, and what it showed seemed to be a drawing of the structure in front of him completed. Roy flipped quickly through the book. Most of the other pages were empty, but he did spot a few with content. One contained a recipe for “portal summoning fluid”: “Items Needed: A flammable liquid; preferably rubbing alcohol, and passionflower flowers.” Another set out a set of instructions on how to make said fluid:”Add passionflower flowers to the liquid and blend them together using a blender(the quickest method) or some other blending tool. Let the concoction set for a few hours before use for the best results.” And the final page detailed the steps needed to activate the portal: ”Pour the Summoning fluid over every part of the portal you can. Then ignite it.”

From all that Roy gathered, he surmised that the structure in question was a portal. For some unknown reason, the builder or builders stopped almost midway through the process. He guessed that the previous owner of the house was responsible for the starting of construction, and that they either died or gave up. But his other thoughts shot this idea down very quickly. He thought: “I did not notice anything suspicious when I used it as a kid. Plus, this stuff does not seem like it has been in here that long since I see no dust on it''
After taking all this in for a bit, Roy decided to finnish building the portal. He did not think anything would go life threateningly wrong, as the book did not mention anything bad associated with the portal. Plus as this find was made on his old turf, this made not messing with it basically impossible for him. With his mind made up, Roy made his way back to the surface on a hunt for the supplies.
