CHAPTER 4 - THE TUTORIAL RACES PART 1

Juluis expected the nexus would have a tutorial. He didn't realize there were a lot of them.

Well better just run them all. They give bonus credits for completing anyways. Juluis thought while he scrolled through the options standing at the main terminal hub.

The first race he selected was a normal race. He wouldn't be allowed to use his weapons on his clown car or intentionally wreck others. The race’s requirements were very minimal. The only restriction for a vehicle he could use was a compact class.

The race would be against seven other AI compacts on very easy mode. The track selected was a 2 mile banked oval track with five laps. The rewards for clearing the race were 5,000 credits. Getting first place gave an additional 10,000 credits, second place 7,500 credits, and third 5,000 credits.

Juluis looked over the race once more before accepting the race. He got over into the clown car as he finalized the commands from the car.

This seems too easy. At least this will give me a better understanding of how the clown car handles at high speeds.

Julius activated the commands as he was teleported away to the race.

Juluis found himself sitting in the clown car on a flat surface. The car rumbled wirh a low hum as it ran. Julius decided to look around at the track. It banked at a steep angle when it got to the turns. The track had a big infield with other buildings and roads. The outer part of the track was lined with grandstands all the way around. There were people of all shapes and sizes standing and sitting in the crowds. The crowd made him a little nervous. He was able to calm himself by reminding he was in a simulation.

Juluis turned his attention back to the starting grid. He could see other compact vehicles in front of him as he was starting last. One vehicle looked like a ufo with wheels to him.

A few signal lights hung above the starting grid. The lights were all red. He was mesmerized by the lights when a message popped up in front of Julius. It was letting him know the race would start in one minute. It also informed him his random stat bonus for being an Earther was double acceleration. Juluis did a double check over everything as the clock finally hit zero.

Juluis floored it out of the gate with the seven other drivers. He was quick to pass seventh and sixth going into the first turn. He managed to pass fifth heading into the second turn before he lost control of the car. His car was doing around ninety mph when he began to slide.

Juluis struggled as the car slid off the banking. He had to fight the car to keep it straight as he slid off into the grass. Somehow he managed to keep it straight coming back onto the track. His heart was pounding after fightibg a tight car. He was now back in seventh.

They weren't kidding about this thing having poor handling. I better save for something with better steering.

Juluis got back up to speed. He now had to play it smarter. He only floored it on the straight aways. He had to let out of the gas when passing or hitting the turns.

Julius eventually took the lead on lap three. By the final lap he was a mile ahead of second. He had managed to lap two of the other compacts before taking the checkered flag.

He crossed the finished line with his heart racing. The crowd cherred as he took the win. He let off the gas letting the car slow.

Although after three seconds after passing the finish line. The simulation went dark with Juluis back in the nexus garage.

A pop up message appeared congratulating him on his first win. He was rewarded with 10,000 credits for finishing first. Another 5,000 for finishing the race. He was also given bonus credits that weren't listed. Another 7,000 for not wrecking any racers. The sum came out to 22,000 credits. He only had 5,000 at the moment. His total net worth was now 27,000.

He sighed in frustration for it being so low. At least he had gained a good amount without losing anything.

He had also gained two xp to his first level. He thought that was strange since only one xp would be awarded for each win. He looked at why he received two and found out why.

Each race had a list of objectives to complete. Completing them gave bonus xp. For this race, the objectives were to finish first, not crash, or take out any opponents.

Juluis was about to start tte next race when he saw another message. He checked the message to see he had unlocked some achievements and titles.

First time champ - Awarded for winning your first race.

Reward: 1 xp point.

Clean driving - Awarded for completing a race without crashing.

Reward: 1 xp point

Mr. Courteous - Awarded for not intentionally wrecking rivals in normal race mode.

Reward: User gets a permanent buff that multiples their credit earnings from normal race mode. It increases as a player ranks up. Buff will permanently despawn if a player intentionally wrecks someone in normal race mode.

Skilled Novice - Awarded for winning a race and not crashing in the novice rank.

Reward: Whenever a player finishes a race first without crashing in the novice rank. They will receive a free tune up.

Julius smiled to himself looking at the notifications. His xp was now at four after accepting the notifications. He really would need to watch his temper in future events after receiving the ‘Mr Courteous’ title. After checking everything else. He loaded up the next tutorial.
