CHAPTER 2 - THE NEXUS GARAGE
Julius had spent a good amount of time looking at everything in the garage. He managed to access the nexus terminal after first being dismissed in a panic. He then had it reappear after he could go anywhere. He had some many questions as he looked over the screen.
Racer name: Julius
World: Earth
Rank: Novice: lvl 1
Credits: 25,000
Julius was curious to use his credits after looking over his screen. He knew better than to spend them until he started getting more credits however that worked. He fiddled around with the racing nexus and found a bunch of interesting features. He found he could add rooms and other things to the nexus. Some things were free to get while others cost credits to get.
Juluis ended up getting every free item he could at the moment. Some things were locked due to a ranking issue. His rank was too low to get those other add-ons.
Julius checked with the nexus to see what was required to rank up. Each rank ended up being more difficult than the next. At his current rank novice. He needed to get to level 10 to rank up. Each level had 10 xp. Sadly, Julius looked into more and found out he could only level by winning events. Looking it over and doing some math it would take him 100 wins to rank up. He groaned internally thinking about it.
Julius decided to look at different things to get his mind off of it. Julius decided to lay out his racing nexus. He added everything he needed for living needs. A kitchen, bedroom, and a bathroom were all free.
After setting up his nexus he looked into the events. The events varied in difficulty and premise. The events were broken up into three categories. They included racing, demolition derbies, and miscellaneous. The difficulty levels were set at very easy to very hard when not racing against other nexus users. He wouldn’t be able to race against other users until after he finished novice rank. This made him even more disappointed but also thankful, not sure what would happen in racing others.
Julius wanted to know more of each event in detail. The racing category had any and every type of racing situation imaginable. Drivers could race in the air, land, or sea. Some events let drivers have weapons, to specialized car requirements, to different terrains.
He next checked under the demolition derby section. Some of the events were pretty obvious. Like the last man standing, whoever was left running last won. Other events included team match ups to derbies with weapons.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Julius finally looked at the miscellaneous category. The section was filled with all sorts of bizarre events. The events included things like how far he could jump a car, doing drifting competitions, and many more.
There was one that caught his eye called crash mode. He looked more into to find out he would have to try and cause the biggest pile up as possible in an certain environment.
Julius read over the events and now looked at the rules. Some events varied on what was allowed and what wasn't. Some events included car class restrictions, rank locked events, and more. Some events included his car being invincible, while others damage could accumulate. The damage would be seen back at the nexus after an event. The cars could be repaired with credits if the car had reached zero durability. If he reached zero durability in a race or wrecked out he would be teleported back to the nexus.
After reading his car could hit zero durability. Juluis was now curious about how a car's durability was determined. He switched the interface to see how car stats worked. Looking at the page he found a car's stats were determined by class, restrictions, strengths, weaknesses, abilities, top speed, acceleration, durability, weight, and handling.
The class type showed what category the car was listed under such as Compact, full-size, heavy-duty, etc. Julius was curious what he would start with. It showed him all the possible options but nothing more.
A car was listed with restrictions for reasons he wasn't sure why. All Julius knew was to make sure he picked his first car carefully.
The abilities of a car gave them special perks to help them gain more advantage over the competition. Julius knew having good abilities would be a game changer for sure.
A car has its own strengths and weaknesses. Julius made sure to keep good detail of what he selected. Him having a car with too many weaknesses would be disastrous, if not done right.
The top speed was a no-brainer for Juluis. It showed how fast a car could go.
A car's Acceleration was broken up into five categories from very slow to very fast. Julius made a mental note to have a car with average acceleration as minimum to his standards. Him having poor acceleration wouldn't get him home faster.
A car's durability was broken up into five categories. Very Weak to very strong. The level of damage a car could take would be one hit per point at very weak and five hits per point at very strong. He made sure to choose a car with average durability. He didn't want to keep spending his credits on upkeep and repair costs.
A car's weight really only came into play for certain racing events and derbies. The more weight a car had the more damage it could do physically.
Finally was the handling of a car. Just like acceleration and durability. It was broken into five categories as well. It ranked from very poor to very good. Julius knew having a good Handling car would have better results of finishing an event better. Having poor handling would have him crash more or would need to take wider turns or drive slower when turning.
Now Julius had a better understanding of the rules and events. More info would be unlocked as he ranked up.
