"KITTYMON!" Senna squealed with delight. Deon looked on in horror as she ran up to their new enemies.
"NO!" both Deon and Tavaras cried out, as the black cat got an annoyed look on her face and pounced, claws outstretched. Deon felt wind rush beside him as a pink streak flew past.
"SPIRAL TWISTER" Biyomon set herself in front of a shocked Senna, green flames spiraling towards her assailant.
"LIGHTNING PAW" The cat, rushing through the fire, struck the pink bird straight in the stomach, causing her to fly into Senna, both crumpling to the ground.
Deon started to panic as Veemon rushed forward, only to get knocked back by the giant bird spiraling towards him. Is this it? Would he never see his mom again?
He saw the cat walking towards Senna and Biyomon, claws raised, and he saw the bird soaring towards a downed Veemon, talons going in for the kill.
Suddenly, a sword rained down from the sky in front of Senna, causing the Kittymon to jump back. At the same time, a fireball in the shape of a Lion's head impacted the bird, causing her to crash back into a tree.
Deon looked up in the direction the help came from and saw a giant, humanoid Lion wearing black pants, standing on two legs on a giant tree branch. The ground shook as he jumped down, landing in front of Deon, and the young boy saw an empty sheathe behind the waist.

"I finally found you, humans." The newcomer said in a deep and clear, albeit tired, voice. "I guess I have to thank you for making so much noise earlier." He walked forwards towards the cat. "Blackgatomon and Saberdramon. Two warriors from the dark ages of this world. Your release brings ill tidings, but for now..." he lunged forward, grabbing the sword embedded in the ground, and swung at Blackgatomon, who jumped back just narrowly avoiding the slash. "YOU SHALL DIE."
"Tch, there's always gotta be a Leomon, doesn't there?" Blackgatomon scorned as she jabbed at the Lion, who blocked it with his sword.
"Same hero, same ending." Saberdramon said, ramming into him from behind.
"Argh!" Leomon stumbled forward, and then back as Blackgatomon's attack hit him from the front.
"Hahaha, too easy!" Saberdramon cried. "How about we make the hero suffer a bit?" Deon saw Leomon's eyes widen.
"NO!" He cried, as Saberdramon flew up and faced the human group.
"METEOR WING!" She called, and Deon's heart raced as dozens of black flames shot towards them from Saberdramon's wings.
Desperately, Deon grabbed Veemon and ran for cover, seeing Senna and Tavaras do the same with their partners. The world slowed down as they managed to duck and weave to avoid the flames. Deon's eyes widened as he felt the intense heat of one such streak brush past his face, and straight towards the cutest looking thing he'd ever seen.

Closing his eyes, he heard the bolt of fire bounce off something. Deon opened his eyes to see the purple cocoon in front of the cute little creature, and Imogen on her knees next to it. He heard in his head sirens and a knock as he witnessed tears streaming down her face. Imogen's eyes had a look of horror and fear that Deon had only seen once before, from his mother.
The cocoon launched itself towards Saberdramon with blinding speed, its bladed tendrils outstretched. And just as it reached the giant bird of fire, it abruptly halted. Taking the opening, Saberdramon screeched and kicked the purple Digimon back down, a loud thud ringing out as it hit the ground.
"Enough of this!" Saberdramon cried, clearly shaken by the sudden assault. "Blackgatomon, time to finish off these four humans and that pesky Leomon!"
"No!" Deon heard Senna's voice, and felt her hand grab his forearm as she stood beside him. "We have to fight back Deon, I refuse to die. Not now, not ever!"
Deon nodded, finding renewed strength and conviction. They would find a way home. Next to them, their partners stood up glowing.
"No matter the challenge, I will be your wings, Senna." As Biyomon grew, a long mane and tail grew behind her, and a chain of rings appeared, dangling from her front.
"BIYOMON, DIGIVOLVE!"

"VALEMON!"
The light of evolution dissipated in a shower of light, and before Senna her partner flew, a mix of red and purple bordering a small waist and massive wings, both of flesh-coloured skin.
"I will fight with you Deon, for your convictions!" Veemon declared. Deon saw him glow too, growing while sprouting three long horns, and a more pronounced mouth.
"VEEMON, DIGIVOLVE!"

"VEEDRAMON!"
As with Valemon, Deon's new partner stood firm in front of the young boy, a larger dragon of blue and white, powerful claws and a wicked smirk ready to fight.
Deon and Senna looked on in awe at their new partners.
Veedramon and Valemon nodded to each other and took off.
"MAGNUM CRUSHER!" Veedramon's fist connected with a confused Blackgatomon, sending the kitty back. She did not get far, as in a yellow flash Leomon appeared behind and cut her in half, blue particles dispersing into the wind.
As Veedramon and Leomon fought Blackgatomon, Valemon grappled with Saberdramon in the sky, each combatant dodging and striking out with talon and beak. With longer limbs, Saberdramon eventually managed to tag Valemon with a kick, fury building as she witnessed her comrade's remains scatter. Recovering, Valemon took advantage of her opponent's blind rage and led her on a chase, weaving in and around the trees.
"Where's your other friend?" Leomon asked as the battle above raged. Deon looked around quizzically, and then noticed Edward was missing.
Tavaras shook his head. "I don't know, that coward must have run off!" He gritted his teeth, and Deon could see the frustration building in his face.
Leomon growled and turned to Veedramon. "I'll find him, you back up Valemon." Without waiting, the lion-man ran past the group into the forest behind.
In the skies, Valemon, seeing an opportunity, came out above and behind Saberdramon and kicked her.
"RAHHH" the black bird squawked, spinning around and shooting black flames. " I am the master of the skies, you child!"
Valemon cried out as one of the flames hit her wing, but recovered quickly and managed to disappear into the canopy.
"V-NOVA BLAST" Veedramon took advantage of Saberdramon's exposed back and shot forth a V-shaped arrow of fire from his mouth. Sensing the heat of the attack, Saberdramon desperately tried to move out of the way, avoiding a direct hit but getting clipped in the wing.
As she fell onto a giant tree branch, Valemon reappeared. "ENERGY RAY" She cried, shooting a thin beam of light from her mouth at the fallen opponent. As the beam hit her, Saberdramon screamed as a fiery explosion engulfed her body, exploding into blue particles.
Deon breathed a sigh of relief, and saw Senna fall to her knees in the same. Descending, Valemon turned back into Biyomon and rushed into her arms, and Veemon having turned back himself, held up a fist to Deon. Deon grinned and bumped it with his own.
Turning around, he saw Dorumon come to, and Tavaras knelt down beside him. Imogen sat on the ground; her eyes were closed and her face tear-stricken. Her partner floated beside her, and that cute digimon he saved bounced back into the forest.
That only left Edward, and Deon hoped Leomon would find him.

Edward leaned against a tree, panting heavily. He had instinctively fled deep into the forest when that giant bird shot fire at them. What had he gotten himself into? He needed to get home.
"Poor little human, got scared?" Edwards eyes shot open as he heard a mocking voice. Standing up straight, he looked around and stumbled back as his eyes laid on a small, grey, evil looking creature with impish little wings and deadly orange claws.

"REEEHEHEHE" Edward shuddered as the thing laughed. "A stray driven from the pack, easy win for Vilemon!" He struck out at Edward, who flinched, bracing for the blow that never came. "Ohh but where's the fun in that?" "NIGHTMARE SHOCK."
"Gahhhhh!" Edward screamed, clutching his head as a sound emitted from Vilemon.
"Soon, you'll experience a nightmare that will have you BEGGING for death aaahahhaha!"
"No!" Wormmon appeared and tackled Vilemon, breaking the attack. Vilemon growled and slashed at Wormmon, throwing him into Edward.
As Edward held the unconscious Wormmon, he trembled. Why? Why was this happening? Why is he stuck here? Why can't he show Imogen how much he changed? Why did this strange creature try to save him?
Suddenly he heard a loud explosion from the area the others were doing battle, and he gulped as Vilemon turned back around, frowning. "Well, it's your unlucky day. I'd better end this before the other two catch up and take my prize." Edward opened his mouth to scream as the sharp claws got closer.
"FIST OF THE BEAST KING" A fireball in the shape of a Lions head struck Vilemon and he disintegrated into blue particles, claws just inches from Edwards face.

Deon sat next to Senna, back against a tree. She had fallen asleep, Biyomon in her lap. Veemon sat on the other side of him, looking quite pleased with himself.
Tavaras sat alone with Dorumon, who had fallen back asleep. Although in the short time they had been together it was mostly in silence, this was different. Deon felt the somber atmosphere, as if everyone just realized how dangerous this actually was. It wasn't just a romp through a strange land; this was life or death. And death seemed to be ever closer to winning that battle.
He sat up straight as he heard a rustle from behind them, noticing Tavaras do the same. Edward emerged, holding Wormmon who looked to be sleeping himself. Leomon followed close behind, arms crossed.
Edward set Wormmon down next to Senna and ran to Imogen. "Imogen, are you okay?" He cried.
Imogen opened her eyes and stared daggers at him. She stood up and shoved him back. "You ran away and left me. Again. " Her voice was a whisper, but Deon could make out the deadly tone of her words. "We were in danger, and you left me to save yourself again." Tears sprung in her eyes and she turned away from him.
"Wait sis, I'm sorry okay?" Edward pleaded and grabbed her shoulder. Imogen violently shrugged him off and shoved him back.
"YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT" She shouted, her face was red and she was crying freely. "YOU CAN'T COME BACK AFTER 10 YEARS AND JUST APOLOGIZE, AFTER DOING THE SAME. FUCKING. THING. AGAIN!" She hit him repeatedly in the chest as she screamed. Wiping her eyes, she turned away.
"I'm going to find a way back home, because unlike you, I can't abandon my family. And once we get back, I don't ever want to see you again."
Senna was up now, hands over her mouth, and Tavaras sat still. Leomon nodded. "Once you've rested enough, I will take you to a safe spot where we can try to help you figure things out."
