Prologue: The White Sun's Last Breath

“So this is what the world’s end look like…”

The land was desertic and crackled as if the earth was going to be torn apart. A lone and tired man was standing. Countless sword and arrows pierced his body, what was left of his armor were now tarnished by the blood of his old friends.

It was impossible to tell what color his armor had before the fight, now they were defiled by blood.

Only a single spot on his armor was more or less spared, it was his shoulder where one could see a white sun drawn. But the white color quickly became bloody red as blood covered the sun.

People with whom he laughed, with whom he swore to protect the world they loved, their body now laid around him. The landscape was filled with corpses which could be counted by hundreds of thousands.

As far as one could see, bodies that would never move again were scattered. Every corpse just like him had a white sun embedded on their clothes and armor.

He still remembered his friends last words, ‘You traitor…’ ‘Monster…’ ‘We believed in you captain, how could you…’.

He would never forget them as he buried their body, using their swords to make tombs.

Despite his wounds, the man was still standing. His organs were undoubtedly pierced, it was already a miracle for him to still be alive in this condition. Yet, he slowly looked around himself with a pair of glowing golden eyes filled with sadness and anger.

He was now alone in the battlefield, he killed everyone who came at him. Be it dragon riders, magician, paladin or simple soldiers; no one was spared.

Childhood friends, comrades, sworn brothers… His sword was merciless as it cut them apart, yet he was unwilling to let them bodies rot here. Thus, he buried them one by one as he remembered the time he spent with them.

Nobody knew how much time passed until he finally finished burying everyone. For him who was immersed in his memory, it was perhaps only a few hours. But he probably took many weeks, or maybe even months to bury them all.

Everything he fought to protect until today was annihilated by his own hands. In order to protect the dearest thing he ever had, he became the world’s enemy.

In his right hand, his silver sword which long ago radiated in a golden light was now covered with dried blood. The glow emanating from the sword was still as bright as before, but it seemed to contain sadness and regret as if sharing its owner’s pain.

The man held this sword as if it was the most important thing in his life, yet as he was dying, the sword fell from his hand, sinking in the ground. Slightly closing his eyes, the man fell backward.

But he was stopped by two hand which supported his firm back. The two peerless snow-like hand supported his body, slowly laying his body on the ground as the weapons previously stuck in his back mysteriously disappeared.

Carefully positioning the man’s head on her lap, tears were flowing down her beautiful face as she looked closely at his face while caressing his straight white hairs with her hand.

The man opened his eyes as a slight smile formed on his lips. Gathering his strength he lifted his hand, touching the woman’s cheek with his hand covered with cuts.

“Alseia…” He said in a gentle tone.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

The woman held his hand, brought it to her face, trying to cover he crying eyes.

“Why?... Why did you sacrifice everything for me?” She weakly asked.

“You were the one who wished for peace the most… So why...did you throw away everything for me?”

He didn’t say a single word, yet his answer was conveyed by a pure smile. A bright and pure smile which contained all his feeling. His silver eyes looked at her like she was his everything, he wished he could keep watching her for eternity.

Slowly, the man’s eyes once again started to close.

“I am tired…” The man weakly muttered.

“Then close your eyes… Everything is over…”

Alseia brought his head to her chest, embracing him as she shared her warmth with resolute eyes.

The world around them was dead, the land was arid and even nature had disappeared. Animals had all disappeared due to the lack of food. The sky was covered with dark cloud, but it wasn’t raining.

A lone woman was embracing the body of her dying beloved who sacrificed everything he possessed to protect her, she was surrounded by swords which symbolized all that he gave up for her.

“I won’t let you die!”

Suddenly opening her eyes, the ground started to shake and the dry wind started to rotate around her. The clouds which covered the sky dispersed, the sun illuminated her body and her silver hairs seemed to reflect the light.

Her golden eyes became as sharp as a sword, her expression turned serious as she discarded the tears in her eyes.

“I, Alseia Ik Valkayin order the world to bend to my will…”

Small blue lights began to gather around her body, some came from the ground others from the sky and finally from the corpses. Those lights enveloped her body as the world around her started to decay even faster.

The previously cracked earth was slowly turning to dust. The dispersed clouds vanished into nothingness and the blue sky became gray, the bright golden sun began to turn white.

Alseia body glowed in a blinding white light enveloping everything around her. A light which seemed to eat everything around. The landscape disappeared in the light, there was nothing but Alseia and the man.

Her figure turned ghostly, slowly starting to disappear. She looked lonely. The hand she was holding now belonged to a dead man who just expired his last breath.

“A forbidden ritual at the price of one’s life and soul… Escape from this world bidding and be reborn with the power of my soul. Stand above mortality and reject fatality.”

As she shot those words the light suddenly froze. Like the time was running on the other side, the light gathered in the man’s body.

“White Sun’s Last Breath!”

The blazing white sun which illuminated the world suddenly condensed and sprang toward the man’s heart as the Alseia vanished into nothingness.

The man’s glowing body also started to slowly disappear in this ruined word.

‘Live well… Dias…’
