Chapter 1 - Rebirth From Light

Chapter 1:

Within a certain forest in the south of the continent like every day, the birds were chirping as loudly as they could, singing with all their might. The sweet perfume of nature was carried by a gentle warm breeze of autumn.

The forest was lively like every day, animals were carefully trying to avoid their predators and the predators were sneakily hunting for food.

However, this every day was disturbed by a strange phenomenon. A strange white light illuminated a certain part of the forest. Because it was daytime, the light was only visible within a few kilometers.

If it had happened during the night, perhaps it would have illuminated the whole forest.

This phenomenon made all animals careful, the birds immediately flapped their wings as they soared into the air trying to avoid any type of danger.

Only a few seconds after appearing, the shiny white light quickly condensed into a small form. As time passes, the white became more and more precise as it formed a human’s shape. It only had its shape, it was formed by a strange gray flame.

This flame didn’t burn anything close to itself. It only tried to achieve the form of a human being, and the more time passed, the precise the shape became.

Within a few little hours, the shape was identical to a human being. The shape was extremely similar to Dias’s one, but his stature couldn’t be compared to his previous one. His body was shorter and a lot thinner, his hairs were slightly longer, barely above his shoulders.

The moment the shape managed to perfectly replicate a human’s body, it quickly condensed. A blinding light illuminated the whole forest for an instant before disappearing as if nothing had happened.

The only proof of the light’s existence a little-naked body on the ground.

Dias suddenly opened his eyes as he took a heavy breath. His expression was dazed as his eyes tried to adjust to the light environnement he was in.

He felt as if he had been in a dark place for a dozens years and then suddenly saw the light of the sun.

When his eyes finally managed to see the world around him, his shock couldn’t be described.

Just… What is going on? He asked himself, the memories of the war, his friends dying at his hands and even the recollection of his own death… Everything was extremely clear in his head.

For him, it was as if a single minute had passed. Yet how could the world change so much in a single minute.

The world around him was alive, tree and grass were present in abundance. The noise around him told him that animals and insects were living closeby.

How could Dias’s believe that this was his world? His world was on the verge of being destroyed, he knew it better than anyone since he threw his world in order to live with her.

And more importantly, the sun was shining in the sky, illuminating the world with its light. His world should have been destroyed by this same sun.

Focusing on the sun he quickly realized something was strange, the light emanating from the sun was weaker than before. It was far weaker than the one he knew and the sun’s size was far smaller.

The sun was the reason why life formed in first place. The gathering of mana for countless millions of years in a single area. Mana in its purest form, a white flame which was covered by a layer of impure mana still in the process of being refined converted into white flame before being absorbed into the white sun.

The light emanating by the white flame and weakened by the impurities was just enough to give birth to live on the closer planet which became Dias’s home.

The White Sun grew at a regulated rate, as it grew larger, the quantity of mana it absorbed became larger as well. Thanks to this, the impurities attracted were greater as well. Everything followed a certain cycle. A large yet frail cycle.

A cycle which was broken ten thousand years ago in Dias’s world by a certain man who betrayed his lord and tried to obtain the White Sun’s power. He invented a dark ritual in which he sacrificed his lord’s life and soul who had the power to invoke a trend of the White Sun’s power. This forbidden ritual was named the White Sun’s Last Breath.

Death was the price this man paid for his failure. Not even ashes remained of his burnt body, but he wasn’t the only one to pay the price. The balance was broken.

The speed at which the sun was absorbing mana was incomparable to before, the impurities gradually weakened as years passed and the mana sent to the Dias’s world was several times higher than in the past.

Life couldn’t adapt in time to the increase of mana and gradually died. By a secret means the humanity had managed to slow down the White Sun’s absorption rate and managed to survive… Until Dias caused its demise.

Looking around him, Dias was shocked. Life was blooming everywhere around him, yet as the astonishment gradually disappeared, all what remained was despair.

Where are you?... Alseia

The woman who was close-by a few moment ago had vanished. His lover for whom he died was nowhere to be found. What had happened to her? His thoughts, for now, were solely focused on her. Was she save?

He felt like he had to hurry and look for her. Since she was close to him a few minutes ago, she must be closeby.

As he stood up, he felt like something was wrong, his body felt uncomfortable and weak. As he tried to extend his senses around him, trying to find Alseia, he noticed that his senses weren’t as sharp as they were.

Even when he was dying his senses were still far sharper than now. Before, he would have been able to notice any living being within a few dozen of kilometers around him without even trying.

Right now even by concentrating as hard as he could, he could at most sense the world around him within two hundred meters.

The sensing was rough and not as precise as before, but he could still distinguish intensity of the life around him. The ones with a small amount were insects and animals, but he suddenly felt a large one entering the range of his area.

He couldn’t distinguish the shape of this living being, but it had an amount comparable to a human’s one. A smile formed on Dias’s face as he hurried toward it, he truly hoped from the bottom of his heart that it was Alseia.

Two hundred meters wasn’t a long distance, after only a few dozen of seconds he arrived before that being. But this little hope on which he relied was crushed.

“GROEWW!” That was the only thing that greeted him.

It was a large bear; the life force of a bear was indeed close to a human’s one and it easily fooled Dias’s weakened senses.

He could feel nothing but despair and anger. He truly hoped that it was Alseia, but thinking about it a little, he quickly realized how stupid he had been.

“As if Alseia’s life force was at the same level as a bear…”

In his despair, he had forgotten about this simple fact. But as he was lost in thought, the bear who was in the middle of his meal didn’t seem to appreciate being disturbed as glared at Dias with bloody eyes.

Feeling his killing intent, Dias’s eyes focused on the bear’s movement as it was charging toward him.

The bear swung his paw at Dias who swiftly avoided it, but a small drop of blood flew down his cheek. His dodging maneuver was perfect, or it would have been if it was Dias’s original body.

But his current body was weaker and his evaluation of the distance was disturbed.

Dias ignored the wound on his cheek and forming a spear hand with his right hand. Gathering his strength, he thrust his hand toward the bear’s heart. The scene had happened very quickly, but despite his body being weakened, Dias felt as if it had been in slow motion.

A simple bear was in no war his opponent. But he had never expected that his body would be weakened to the point where he would be unable to pierce the skin of a simple bear. Secretly cursing his weakened body, all he could do was dodge the next incoming paw as he retreated.

Dias was in no way tense, in fact since he began to battle with the bear his heart was even calmer than before.

However, the bear’s mind was in chaos. At first, he didn’t feel anything from the young man before him, but the moment Dias attacked, he felt his whole body tighten.

Dias’s attack had in fact almost killed the bear from a heart attack. The bloody killing intent which was released from Dias’s body the moment he launched his hand toward the bear’s heart made him feel like as if a sword had countless times pierced his body.

It was something that it had never felt before like he was an ant on the verge of being stepped on by a giant. If it wasn’t for his instinct taking the lead and chasing Dias away, he probably wouldn’t have reacted.

Sighing, Dias closed his eyes and an imaginary image of his body appeared in his mind. From his brain, fifty-two threads were connecting it to the various part of his body. But among those fifty-six, six were shining in a blue light.

As he concentrated, a blue mist was moving inside those threads. The mist gathered at his right hand. Despite the amount of concentration needed, it took only an instant for Dias to gather this blue mist.

But despite the success, Dias couldn’t help but show an unsightly face.

Those threads were his mana circuit, they influenced the amount of mana he was able to use; the more were opened, the larger the amount of mana he could use was.

His previous self-had managed after a long number of years to open all of them. Opening a single of his mana circuit was something intense and painful which could result in death if one faltered. It wasn’t something one would normally be willing or able to endure.

It was one of the reasons why Dias was qualified as a monster in his previous world. The mana circuits were linked to one’s soul, it wasn’t only the body but also the soul who received pain.

It wasn’t something one could guard against. Being able to open all mana circuit was unheard of before he appeared.

From Dias’s hand emanated a light blue aura which oscillating as a small breeze of the wind gently caressed them.

The bear’s instinct told him to run, to leave this place and run away from this frightful young man. But before he could even blink his eyes, Dias’s hand cut through the wind as it pierced the bear’s body like it was made of tofu.

Falling on the ground, the bear died from having his heart pierced. Becoming a corpse that would never stand again.
