Chapter 5 - Divine Heritage

"I am sorry about your daughter, Mr. Wu. My wife is a fan of your novels and has spoken highly of you. She was truly saddened by the news. Rest assured, we will do everything in our power to rescue all the children," Wenton assured.

"Thank you, Chief Officer. I hope Talia and the other children are rescued safely. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll take my leave now," Shin replied in a gentle tone, a hint of sadness in his voice.

"Yes, you must be going through a lot. You should rest. We’ll contact you if anything comes up, and please stay alert. Let us know immediately if you receive any ransom calls," Wenton advised.

"Of course, Mr. Wenton," Shin responded.

Shin extended his hand, and Wenton shook it. In that brief moment, Shin, with his heightened sense of touch, confirmed his suspicion—there were traces of Hell Dust on Wenton. With that realization, he left the police station.

**The truth is clear. The chief of police is a demon.** Shin thought to himself. **Are there more officers like him?**

**They covered their tracks by framing someone else, using the support of the police to carry out their crimes in broad daylight. It’s getting more complicated. For now, I should follow Wenton to uncover who else is involved.**

Shin passed the police station and entered a secluded area. The familiar black smoke surrounded him once more.

**Am I ready to face another high-grade demon?** he wondered.

Meanwhile, near Malcovich Hills, Fiona was following the trail of the vehicle, but confusion struck when the tire marks ended at a dead end.

She examined the area carefully. Chanting a verse in Latin, she watched as the rocky hill began to rot, revealing demonic symbols and incantations.

"Damn it! A teleportation spell of this caliber could only be set up by a high-grade demon. I swear, I’ll kill them," Fiona muttered, her voice filled with determination.

Suddenly, the sound of wings flapping filled the air, and a figure appeared behind her.

He had white hair, blue eyes with golden pupils, and wore a sky-blue suit. Anyone who saw him would recognize him as an angel, but he was only visible to Fiona.

"Oh, it's you, Gabriel," Fiona said with relief.

"Looks like it's a high-grade demon. I'll have to grant you more power this time," Gabriel spoke in a divine tone.

"Yes... but I need to ask, why did you tell me to back off from Shin?" Fiona asked.

"First, I received a divine signal to let him go. Second, I didn’t want my contractor to die," Gabriel replied.

"You still think I’m weak? I could have taken him on and won if you’d lent me more of your power," Fiona said confidently.

"No, you’re underestimating him. He’s far stronger than you realize. And it’s not just his strength—when you mentioned his daughter, his killing intent... I’ve fought countless high-grade demons, but his was far more ferocious," Gabriel explained.

"That can’t be. Even with a lifetime of demonic sorcery, one can only rival a mid-grade demon. How could he be at that level? And how did I not sense him if he’s that powerful?" Fiona asked, confusion and fear creeping into her voice.

"He’s a master of spells. He likely used high-grade magic to conceal his presence. Moreover, his daughter has a considerable amount of pure energy. Many demons possess or use hosts with children because it’s easier to hide their presence around pure energy," Gabriel explained.

"But Talia... she always had a normal amount of pure energy. Yet the day I saw Shin taking her to the hospital, she was radiating a massive amount—almost on par with a mid-rank demon hunter," Fiona recalled.

"No... it can’t be," Gabriel muttered. "Who is this Shin? He was already a peculiar one, but now you’re telling me his daughter has a divine heritage?"

"What do you mean by 'divine heritage'?" Fiona asked, puzzled.

"A long time ago, a group of angels descended to Earth without God’s permission. They taught humanity various concepts like mathematics, germ theory, and medicine. But they also had children with mortal women, resulting in offspring with vast pools of pure energy," Gabriel explained.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

"Wait... didn't you say angels were genderless? How did they procreate?" Fiona asked, confused.

"You could have asked them if they hadn’t been smited by God. Not only the angels but almost all the women who bore their children, as well as the offspring themselves, were executed by my platoon," Gabriel said gravely.

"But why the women and children? They weren’t at fault," Fiona questioned.

"The women who bore children with angels had divine influence in their wombs. Even if they later had children with human men, those children would be far more powerful than normal. The children of angels could pass their extraordinary energy down to future generations, making them prime targets for demons. Demons often use children for sacrifices but the children of divine heritage could be used as sacrifices in summoning high-grade demons. Collect enough of them, and you could even summon a supreme-grade demon," Gabriel explained.

"So... Talia..." Fiona’s voice trembled with horror.

"Yes. And there’s another among the kidnapped children who also has divine heritage. The cult also operates in other cities, and so far, they’ve collected six children of divine heritage including the two that were kidnapped today," Gabriel said, his tone serious.

"They’re planning to summon a supreme-grade demon," Fiona whispered in dread.

"The two children with divine heritage are likely safe for now, they would already have been sent to the main branch, but the other five... their fate is uncertain," Gabriel added.

"Maybe they kidnapped them as a distraction?" Fiona offered hopefully.

"Perhaps. But demons don’t spare those they deem useless. Don’t cling to false hope, Fiona. The other five children are as good as dead. Focus on protecting the ones with divine heritage," Gabriel said coldly.

"How can you say that? Aren’t you an angel? How can you speak of children as if they’re expendable?" Fiona shot back, anger and sadness mixing in her voice.

"Humans fail to see the bigger picture. Would you rather save five children and let the demons capture the more of the divine heritage children, unleashing a supreme-grade demon that could kill millions? Is that what you want?" Gabriel replied sharply.

"Tch. Sometimes, I don’t see a difference between angels and demons. Should I tell Shin?" Fiona asked harshly.

"I don’t want to, but since God himself gave him clearance, you’ll have to work together for now," Gabriel said.

With the sound of wings and a rush of wind, Gabriel vanished.

**Letting innocent children die to save millions... what a cruel world we live in,** Fiona thought bitterly as she disappeared with the wind.

Shin was now back in his house. Ancient symbols and incantations glowed on his body, disappearing one by one. He was focused, deep in a trance, as he chanted demonic verses, undoing the seals he had placed on himself to contain his power. But now, with his daughter in danger, he had no choice but to release them.

His opponent was no ordinary foe. To face a high-grade demon, he needed to be at full strength.

After removing the outer seals, Shin took a break. His body was drenched in sweat, some areas even showing burn marks that healed almost instantly. He sat on the couch, sipping water at intervals.

**The outer seals are removed. Once the inner ones are gone, I’ll be ready to face that demon,** Shin thought.

Just as he was about to begin undoing the inner seals, the doorbell rang. Shin walked to the front door and opened it. It was Fiona.

"Hey, so—" Fiona paused, flustered as she took in Shin’s shirtless appearance. His body was fit, muscular, with well-defined features. His face was just as striking. Was he really in his 30s?

**No, Fiona. Don’t be tempted by the devil,** she snapped herself back to reality.

"We should talk inside," Fiona said, regaining her composure.

Shin nodded and let her in. They sat down in the living room.

"Your demonic aura is more visible now. What kind of spells were you using to hide it?" Fiona asked.

"We have more pressing matters. What do you need to tell me?" Shin cut straight to the point.

"We’re going to be working together now, so we need to trust each other and stop keeping secrets," Fiona said firmly.

"Why is a demon hunter so eager to work with a demon?" Shin asked, confused.

"Because God said so," Fiona replied.

Shin was puzzled, so Fiona explained everything about Gabriel and what he had told her about the children of divine heritage.

After hearing it all, Shin was relieved, though he didn’t show it. For now, at least, Talia wouldn’t be harmed. But time was running out—they didn’t know when the children would be sacrificed.

"So, we know they won’t hurt Talia or the other divine heritage child for now, but the other five could be killed at any moment," Shin said gravely.

"Yes, but we need to focus on the divine heritage children. If they get enough of them, the entire world could be in danger, we will have to locate their main branch." Fiona said, worry etched on her face.

"Then let’s move. I’ve identified one of the demons involved in the kidnapping. He’s a mid-grade demon, working with the high-grade one," Shin explained.

"Wait! You haven’t fully unsealed yourself. You could be putting yourself in danger," Fiona cautioned.

"It doesn't matter we have to move fast, we don't know what cards they have up to their sleeves, and if they are really doing a ritual to summon a supreme grade demon then they will do it in about 5 months so we don't have time, we will take action now.," Shin replied firmly.

"Since you are also a master in demonic magic I will take your word, but still you can regain your full strength in a matter of time, why are you in a hurry? if you go half assessed you wil die." Fiona had a concerned look.

"Tommorow's a new moon night so the five childrens are probably gonna be sacrificed tommorow which will help demons grow stronger moreover if we move fastly there are chances that we might find whereabouts of Talia as well." Shin replied.

Fiona was surprised. She thought he’d only focus on Talia, but he was already moving to save the other children as well.

"Let’s go, then," Shin said, his voice steady.

"Yeah, let’s go," Fiona echoed, a faint smile crossing her face.
