Whilst writing down notes, "Patient is male. Appears to be between ages forty and fifty."
Suddenly, the beeping from the vital sign monitor stopped and turned into a long ringing beep.
"Vitals have dropped. CLEAR!"
The body was shocked with the defibrillator and it sprung up. Once again, the surgeon used the machine, the body springing up again. The surgeon tried a few more times until she shook her head in defeat. The other surgeon continuing his notes spoke.
In a solemn tone, "Time of death, 2:34 am."
Run down apartment in the middle of the city:
RING RING!
RING RING!
A male, aged eighteen slumped out of his covers in annoyance and grabbed his phone on the bed side table. Sitting on the side of his bed, he looked at the unknown caller ID and questioned it. "Who the hell could be calling me at three in the morning?"
He answered the phone and talked. "Hello?"
"Excuse me, but could this be Jonah Kekel I am speaking to?" A female voice said on the other end.
"Yes?"
"Well, Mr Kekel, we have some very sad news. Your father was brought in at 2:28 this morning from a car crash. He shortly passed away after an attempt to revive his heart. He didn't have anyone else we could contact besides you. I know this is very sudden news but we need you over here."
Jonah dropped the phone and stared at the wall in front of him in shock. He couldn't believe it, his father, the man who took care of him, fed him and educated him was dead. He snapped himself out of his shocked state, his legs still trembling and tears rolling down his face. He quickly picked up the phone after hearing the person on the other end asking if he was still on the line.
"I'm on my way!"
Twenty minutes later: Hospital
"I really am sorry for your loss Mr Kekel, but we need you to decide what you want to do with your father's body."
Jonah stared at the ground for a moment and then remembered some words his father told him a few years prior. He looked back up in determination and came to his conclusion.
The next day, Jonah was on his motorbike, his fathers ashes in a rucksack on his back, and the goggles on his eyes shining from the sun above. The dirt flew up in the air as the wheels created tracks, following the route Jonah was taking up him and his father's favourite hiking mountain. He remembered the days they would come here during the spring holidays and summer breaks, reminiscing on the fun and positive times they had together. Jonah reached the top of the hill, got off his bike, took his fathers ashes out of the rucksack and went to the edge of the mountain. From here he could see the entire city and its skyscrapers.
"If I were to ever pass away, I want my ashes to be spread off of this edge right here. The peak of this mountain."
"Why would you want that?" Jonah asked.
"Because this is where we spent unforgettable time together." His father smiled.
"That's cringey dad..."

He reached forward and rubbed his knuckles into Jonah's head. "Don't get that tone with me."
Jonah laughed both painfully and joyfully in response.
With tears now streaming down his face, Jonah threw his fathers ashes over the edge of the cliff and watched as the ashes disappeared into the air. He placed the jar back into his rucksack and hopped onto his bike, once again looking at the view he was so familiar with.
"I'll never, ever forget you pops."
Later that evening:
Jonah was now eating cup noodles in his bedroom with a depressed look on his face. He had been attempting to call his uncle and cousins for the entire day but no one picked up. It was odd that each call immediately went to voice mail, so he questioned if something happened to them as well. After finishing his food, he threw the fork in the sink and the cup in the bin.
The doorbell suddenly went off and Jonah curiously went over to the door. He looked through the peephole and saw a man with red hair in a suit standing outside with his hands in his pockets while looking to the left. Jonah anxiously opened the door.
"Yes?"
"Are you Jonah Kekel. I have some information on your father's passing. I'm from the Detective Organisation."
"Detective Organisation?"
Jonah allowed the man to enter and he sat down with him. "You want some tea?" Jonah asked.
"No. It might get ruined anyway."
Jonah questioned what that meant but pushed it to the back of his mind.
"So what information do you have on my dad?"
The man leaned in forward and looked Jonah in the eye. "I'm sorry to say this so bluntly. Your father was killed by monsters from another world, and I'm here to stop you from being killed by one."
Jonah was immediately annoyed and stood up. "Hey. I don't know who you think you are but get out of here no-"
He was cut off by a giant rumbling and the electricity in the building going out.
"An earthquake?" Jonah asked.
The man sitting across him stood up and looked up at the roof. "They're already here for you."
"Look man. I don't know what drugs you've taken but we should just take cover until this earthquake subsides."
Suddenly, the roof above them caved in as a beast triple their size burst through and lunged at Jonah. He yelped and ducked to the side as its jaws got stuck into the wall behind him. Jonah crawled to where the man was in shock. The creature was shaped like a giant dog, had dark green fur and had two heads, both drooling in hunger.
"See. I wasn't lying." The man said calmly, reaching for the gun on his side.
He aimed it at one of the dogs heads as it came charging for Jonah again. Jonah tried to duck out of the way again as the bullet tore through one of the heads, knocking the dog to the floor. Jonah looked at the man who was aiming the gun, the gun was glowing with a dark red aura.
"Get out of the way kid."
Jonah immediately ran out of the way as red blood from the first head seeped towards his feet. The dog got up again, its other head growling in anger. It pounced at the man this time, knocking him out of the window, sending glass flying everywhere and causing them to fall from the fifteen story building. Jonah immediately ran to the balcony and saw the two fighting on the wall while standing upright. His jaw dropped seeing this abnormal phenomenon, all the while worrying whether the man would beat the monster's second head.
The man ducked under a giant claw that crashed into someone's window. He grabbed the creatures tail from behind, lifted it up and threw it down the building. The creature, now falling with nothing to grip onto was in the mans shooting range. He shot another red glowing bullet and hit the dog's second head right between the eyes. The creature fell all the way to the bottom of the apartment building and crashed into the floor near the front door.
The man casually walked up the walls, placed his gun back into his holster and hopped back into Jonah's destroyed living room. Jonah watched as the man sat back down and lit a cigarette in his pocket. "Sit down kid. We still need to talk."
Still in shock, Jonah quickly obliged and sat down opposite the man. "You said you were from the Detective Organisation. What does this have to do with my dad?" He asked.
"Your dad was apart of another monster killing organisation. He did things like this all the time, but on one of his investigations, he found something ground breaking. Because of this, monsters targeted him and anyone of his relatives to completely wipe him out."
Jonah stared at the floor, thinking, "That's why he never let me in on his work? It's not like this guy is lying though, I saw that giant monster myself."
The man watched Jonah thinking and stood up. "Let's go. I'm going to get you back to the headquarters."
Jonah quickly looked up. "Headquarters?"
"Well yeah. You're not gonna stay in this trashy dump are you? If you do stay, you'll be killed by another one of those monsters again."
Jonah stood up and put on his shoes.
"Anything you need from here?"
"No.." Jonah replied.
He closed the door behind him, leaving nothing but darkness in his apartment. The clock in his kitchen still ticked until it fell off the wall and crashed on the floor.
