Destroyer of Kingdoms
The Alarm is Raised

The Alarm is Raised

Night had fallen upon Aloran castle. There was not a soul in sight, except for the soldiers of the parapets, using their tired eyes to keep lookout. The crickets peacefully made their chirping sounds alongside the other night-time critters.

The great stone walls of Aloran where impenetrable, no army had ever got in. Even in the wars thousands of years ago, where Aloran fought multiple armies at a time, not one enemy soldier got within the walls.

Now, it stood proudly upon it's hill, surrounded by a river moat. Outside the moat was the massive Aloran village. It had the largest population of all the kingdoms. It's main road ran right through it and came to the castle gates.

Beyond the village was the hills of Aloran, and then, the forest. The road ran through the forest and under the mountains, Aloran's prime defence. The mountains where to steep to climb, no attacking army could do it. They had to take the slow, long way under the mountains, on a thin road, two men wide.

After the road went through the mountains, it ran for miles up and down the Great Plain of Gorter. After that, it joined to one of Aloran's allied kingdoms, Hillberg. The road was mostly untraveled, for the world was now at peace. Gedith, a great dragon, once flew through the lands, destroying all.

But he was slain many thousands of years ago, and the confusions of the world came to an end. Gedith was never to rise again, and even the wisest wizards could not foresee that happening again. The world was given eternal peace at last.

And so, as the tired soldiers patrolled the parapet, fighting to keep their eyes open, they never expected it. Jupus, a young, new recruit spotted it first. Over the mountains, the skies where a mix of orange and red. Fire.

"Look!" yelled Jupus. The tired soldiers snapped to attention. They instantly saw the trouble. Over the mountains was Hillberg. The Aloran army had pledged to assist Hillberg when they needed it, and now they did. The commander rung a bell, which alerted the other left parapet, which alerted the back. which alerted the right. Soon, the sound of bells donging ran all throughout the castle.

Almost instantly, sleepy foot soldiers came pouring into the courtyard prepared for war. They fearfully looked up at the unnatural red skies. They had never seen anything like it, and they never would again.
