Jupus and the other soldiers stared in shock at the burning remains of Hillberg castle. There was not a person in sight. It seemed that everything had been obliterated, every person and every wall. The crumbled remains of Hillberg Castle's massive walls burned with the village houses and the families that lived in them.
The soldiers where ordered to check the perimeter of the wreck site for survivors. Jupus went around with the others, finding multiple charred bodies in the yellow-orange flames. But no people where alive. Jupus look into the eye holes of a blackened skull. A few hours ago, this person was alive. Now, they where a crumbling skull.
Jupus was shocked by all this, being young, and not having seen anything so saddening. He felt the intense heat of the flames grow as the slowly spread with the assistance of the night's gentle wind. He took a step back and kept on walking around the edges of the wreckage, hoping to find a survivor to tell him what happened.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
And the, he heard a soldier cry out; "He's alive!" Jupus and about fifty other people ran towards the yelling soldier. He was kneeling next to a man, badly burned, and trying to wake him up. "He was breathing!" the soldier yelled.
The others crowded around him. But the man wasn't breathing. "Shut up!" yelled one of the soldiers. "You got us all exited! He's not alive!"
"Yeah!" another yelled. All the soldiers groaned and glared at the other soldier. They slowly began to shuffle off. As the crowd cleared, Jupus got a better look at the dead man. He was burned across the side of his thigh, and the burn didn't even look bad enough to kill him.
But then, the dead man's eyes flicked open.
He was and alive man.
"Oh my god!" yelled Jupus, for the eyes opening gave him quite a shock. All the soldiers turned around to Jupus. One of the soldiers saw the open eyes and yelled; "My god, he IS alive!"
Again, all the soldiers ran over, but this time they where apologizing to the other man, and patting Jupus on the back. The put the man on a stretcher and ran him to Aloran. This would be an exiting night for Jupus.
