chapter 3

A week, a full week had passed since I had left the royal library. Honestly I wanted to leave but, there was just so much information in here. Speed reading was helpful but I had enough mana in me to use it a total of maybe 60 times that seemed like a lot at first. Until I realized it took me almost half a day to regenerate that amount and once my mana ran out I always felt extremely tired I found out that losing all of my mana is what caused my first 2 blackouts with magic. My status wasn't too great at least according to the books I've read, compared to some of the other heroes of legend at least I was well extremely weak.

[Name: Jacob Johnson

[Classes: Enchanter, Tamer]

[Race: Human]

[Level: 1]

[Health: 100]

[Mana: 90]

[Strength: 5]

[Intellect: 56]

[Wisdom: 10]

[Dexterity: 3]

[Luck: 1]

[Skills: Speed reading, Perfect memory, Taming, Enchant: Simple, Feiran Language 1/5]

That was my status everytime I looked at it I could only laugh I was weak, here I was wanting power and the more I looked at it the more depressed it made me feel. Multiple books focused solely on the research of the heroes stated that every hero summoned so far has started with at least 80 points in every stat. A whole 80! Here I was with a 5, 10 and 3 at least he 56 intellect wasn't horrible still nothing compared to heroes of Manaly that start with over 150 Intellect. Only releasing a sigh at my misfortune I continued to stuff myself full of knowledge.

Soon enough I heard footsteps approaching, only moments later I saw Emilia come into view. Currently those two are training on their own as there is no need for them to be with me since I'm only reading. They run errands for me every now and then but, that’s about it.

She bowed and soon left me alone, chips I found out that a summoned hero had created these he was said to be a master chef. Quite a few inventions were brought into this world like toilets, the banking system, and proper methods for farming. Sadly most of them are dead but, I could only give my silent thanks for the creations they had accomplished in making.

One more thing that I had discovered was what enchanter truly is, when I woke up from my taming, after looking over my status for the first time I tried something. Using the same method I tried when I accomplished the taming, willing the mana to the tips of my fingers I held it there. Slowly I felt it change writing the word howl in feiran, the image started to appear in the air. The blue color of the words made you feel as if you warm when looking at them, after letting my control of the mana go it happened an ear deafening roar was let out the sound originating from the word.

Once the roar was over guards rushed over to my room almost immediately. Sheesh it was a hard time explaining that one but, since then when a strange noise is heard from the library no one gives it much attention. Honestly I couldn't see the uses for this magic but, I'm sure there was something I could do with it.

Feeling something curling up against my back I turned around to see the jocia I was now call Snubzy I wasn't very good with names I know. Through the books in hear I found out jocia are blind but they had an extremely good sense of hearing so even though they are blind, they are not to be taken lightly in a battle. Stroking Snubzy on the head I went back to reading the book in my hand, every now and then reading books manually was the best method. Letting my mana regen while reading allowed for more uses of speed reading daily.

One thing about this world I learned through using speed reading was, skills had to me manually activated there was no just think of it and whuala. You had to feel your mana will it to move the way you want to achieve a certain spell or ability to my disappointment, being able to just think the ability name would have made things a lot easier.

The book I was currently reading was on item classes, it seems items such as weapons, armor, magic tomes, and health potions all dropped from dungeon bosses. Bosses would drop 1 item for your class, items also came in 6 different classes starting from common, uncommon, rare, mythic, ancient, and god class. To give a better idea on just how rare items were the book also gave examples, common and uncommon items were used mostly to equip large armies as they dropped most often by clearing the first boss of a dungeon and could also be crafted by blacksmiths quite easily.

Rare items were a lot harder to come by, they were used to equip high ranking officers from a dungeon and were seen most on adventurer's that have been active for quite a while. Here's where it got interesting mythic class items these items were extremely sought after it seems once an item got to mythic class and above, a boost in status would occur when equipped. Mythic items also had special effects although there are only about 20 mythic class items per country so no one really knows what these effects do as it’s a close guarded secret.

Ancient class items well those were just a dream to obtain, there were 5 ancient class items it seems they were acquired long ago over 800 years ago by a group of 6 summoned heroes. All of these ancient weapons are held by the country Firadeim that also happens to worship the goddess Shiriel, this made me feel a bit uneasy. Any of the people that chose her pillar might be able to get their hands on one of these weapons and that made for bad news in my opinion, there was nothing I could do about it at this point so there wasn't much use in mulling over it.

Finally god class items well these were a bit special, there was only 1 god class item in existence but, here's the catcher no one could actually use it. Funny right well, it seems god class items had steep requirements such as specific classes, level, race, and stats the god class item was held in the Tyradelf they worshiped the goddess Leviry it seems. Tyradelf was a peculiar country it only had one entrance well as far as anyone knew it only had one entrance however, you had to be invited into the country. Surrounding Tyradelf there was a huge forest, it seems the king was a master mage in his 3rd class and he constantly kept a barrier around the country. The barrier would cause the trees to make you wander endlessly if you were not invited in by, the king himself.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Closing the book I laid back to feel Snubzy on my curling up on my right arm, I often found myself doing this in the library. Not because of weariness, there was a painting at the top of the royal library it was beautiful. The painting depicted 3 stars falling to the world, from left to right the story proceeded as follows, 3 stars fell to the world 1 green, 1 blue, and 1 purple once having fell these stars transformed. Beautiful creatures emerged from these stars these creatures lived happily together in peace. One day something different happened the creatures looked toward the sky only to see multiple objects falling, these objects were not stars though.

What these objects brought to the world were twisted forms of all the creatures you could imagine, the stars wanting to continue in peace reached out to these creatures with their twisted forms. Twisted not just on the outside but, inside as well these creatures did not want the peace of the stars they needed power to quench their needs. This brought on a war between the two, the stars were strong incredibly so they defeated creature after creature in a flurry of magic and blades. The creatures however, did something unthinkable, knowing they could not win like this the creature that the stars saw as their leader started to slaughter his own kind. Growing stronger and stronger from every one of his own kind he consumed the stars did not know what to do, finally the final battle came it was just the stars and the 1 creature.

The stars were the first to attack magic flying the creature was not phased, he simply flicked the magic away with his claws and ran forward towards the stars. Feeling the danger the stars tried to retreat the stars however, were snatched up by this creature unable to fight back. The green and purple star seeing they had no choice looked towards each other and nodded, both taking a hand of the blue star used it to Pierce their chest. Looking on in horror the blue star cried both stars fading away with a smile, feeling himself grow stronger the blue star fought back an intense battle was fought between the two until the blue star got the upper hand. Piercing the creature with his blade the blue star was overjoyed having finally defeated the creature, that did not last long though his sadness he soon felt it crying over the death of his friends the blue star did not know what to do.

His sadness seemed to last millenias until finally the blue star did something he decided to join his friends wherever they were. Piercing his own chest the blue star soon faded sorrow visible on his face.

This painting was my favorite thing in this palace by far, I admired this painting for as long as I could until I heard footsteps. Looking towards the direction they were coming from a hooded person soon came into view, I knew her at least as much as you could get to know someone who didn't respond to your questions. The only reason I knew it was a she was because of the small bump forming over her chest so naturally I came to that conclusion.

She didn’t do much she only came and sat in front of me every day since I arrived at the library for around 4-5 hours, it was a strange habit but I couldn't judge seeing as I had basically lived in this library for a week. Noticing something different about her I called out.

I could see the bangs coming out from her hood, she nodded but not before turning her head quickly and adjusting something before turning back. She was a strange one I will admit that but, well it's fine we're all strange in our own way I guess.

For the next 3 weeks I knew what my goal was, reading all the books this library had to offer might come in handy at some point so deciding wasn't hard this was my goal. Opening my next book I went continued on reading.

                                                                                          ************************

Opening the door I walked in the room, the smell was foul it smelled of sex and alcohol I quickly closed the door behind me I looked around the room searching. Soon spotting the person I was here for surrounded by women as he indulged himself in their bodies I spoke to him.

He scoffed at me I could see the fat around his neck shake when he spoke.

Quickly leaving his chambers I closed the door behind me, almost immediately taking a deep breath of clean air I sighed. How such a pig is to be our next king, the kingdom surely to fall, that being the last of my task today I decided to head to the library. Pulling my hood overhead I made my way towards the library, for the past week visiting him has been my only solace.

The summoned hero was a peculiar one unlike heroes of old he didn't want to train with our knights or want to do anything other than read really. When he first arrived I half expected him to be like some of those idiots from Mudhiel that quickly got suited up in armor and left the city to fight monsters, most of them died immediately it seems however, some survived. They though are now servants of the higher ranking officers in Mudhiels army not wanting to fight monsters that was there only option for survival.

Being a court mage's apprentice I had come to realize something about this kingdom, everyone no matter who was only uninterested in anything other than that which will give them more power in the court. Take me for example I am a Chronomancer and Gravity mage once applying for the position of court mages apprentice and being accepted immediately. Showered with praise for my classes and questions of my abilities and levels, most of my abilities took insane amounts of mana to cast. Once that was discovered people became uninterested now I was just an errand girl really.

Walking into the library I walked over to the area Mr hero had set up in, not knowing his name that is what I called him. Everyday he would ask me questions and try to get a response from me but, today he said something that truly surprised me.

Feeling my cheeks grow warmer I quickly turned and tucked the stray hairs back, facing him once more I nodded and proceeded to sit in my usual place. Not speaking was a habit of mine I was shy growing up in the outskirts of the city will do that to you, there isn't was never anyone to talk to other than my mother and father. Right after their passing is when I signed up for court mages apprentice it was a sad time for me but, I had to get over it.

A world like this where death is ever present weeping for loved ones is not something you can do forever. Looking over at the hero once more and smiling I thought to myself no matter what keeping him safe during the dungeon exploration would be my task. Making sure he did not end up afraid of this world was my goal I would be sure to accomplish them.

                                                                                       *******************************

Neither of them knew at the time but, their meeting and journey together would spark a new age across the continent one of sadness, one filled with hardship, one that would come to be known as the age that changed what the very word power ment. The age of heroes.
